Just had a polite lad (14?) at the door. "We are raising sponsorship for an African charity with a football match tomorrow". I asked him where he's at school. "Coriba College in Nunhead" (or something like that). When I asked where he lives he said in Elephant & Castle. So what is he doing in East Dulwich asking for sponsorship? I told him I'd only sponsor something from one of the nearby schools. This reminds me of an almost identical incident about ten years ago when a girl (similar age, also from Elephant & Castle) wanted sponsorship for something. I'm almost certain that previous one was a scam, so if you do get such a visitor make sure you quiz them properly.

We used to do this as kids. Just because it's disorganised (i.e. no ID and close to the actual event) doesn't mean they are not doing what they say and raising money with good heart.

Ask the child to clearly state the school they are at and the details of the event they are seeking sponsorship for.

I would assume the reaction / repsonse would confirm if this is honest or not.

    • I'd try the Dulwich Village or "North Dulwich Triangle" forums for more local knowledge but I don't think those areas compare to Abeville Road at all. It will be quite a different lifestyle.
    • Yes, Dulwich Village commands a premium and justifiably so given access to the City via London Bridge plus the top rate schools within walking distance.  The bus services are really good also - 37, 42 and P4. The P4 is useful for connecting to the Victoria line at Brixton. It's worthwhile waiting for the right property. I know of one which will be coming on the market in a few weeks - 4 bedrooms and south facing garden circa £2.5m.
    • This is an utterly foolish and alarmist statement, completely at odds with reality.
    • I realise this is highly unlikely, but if anyone has a colour laser printer in very good working order, I'd be delighted to take it off your hands!
