Reg Smeeton
Just had a polite lad (14?) at the door. "We are raising sponsorship for an African charity with a football match tomorrow". I asked him where he's at school. "Coriba College in Nunhead" (or something like that). When I asked where he lives he said in Elephant & Castle. So what is he doing in East Dulwich asking for sponsorship? I told him I'd only sponsor something from one of the nearby schools. This reminds me of an almost identical incident about ten years ago when a girl (similar age, also from Elephant & Castle) wanted sponsorship for something. I'm almost certain that previous one was a scam, so if you do get such a visitor make sure you quiz them properly. singalto
I would never sponsor a complete stranger. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/95962-sponsorship-scam/#findComment-967044 Share on other sites
DulwichFox
You should ask your neighbours if theye were approached... or were you singled out.. ..raising sponsorship for an African charity with a football match tomorrow (Like the next day) ?? Does not seem right.. DuylwichFox Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/95962-sponsorship-scam/#findComment-967114 Share on other sites
Angelina
We used to do this as kids. Just because it's disorganised (i.e. no ID and close to the actual event) doesn't mean they are not doing what they say and raising money with good heart.Ask the child to clearly state the school they are at and the details of the event they are seeking sponsorship for. I would assume the reaction / repsonse would confirm if this is honest or not.
