candj
We moved back from Shanghai last summer... Not HK but we did fly to HK every month from Shanghai and know HK very well and have friends there. What would you like to know (schools, nannies, doctors, etc)? In fact, we're going to HK for the Easter half term and are you not going there that time as well? PM me if you want. Best, -CSorry edited because my post sounded really obnoxious the first time!! beec
Hi candj and phillyboy,This thread caught my eye... Where do you stay when you are in Hong Kong? We are going in the summer with our baby who will be exactly one year old and are looking for a serviced apartment for a week because we thought it would be easier to cook things for him / keep things refridgerated if we have some semblance of a kitchen. Hotels no good for this. Friends and family all have small apartments and can't really accommodate us.Many thanks!B Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/9936-moving-to-hong-kong/#findComment-298564 Share on other sites
phillyboy
Plan for us is to live in Discovery Bay, very family friendly i;ve heard and doesn't break the bank in terms of rent! From what I have been told all of the serviced apartments are on HK island itself (and >2 bedrooms is very rare and expensive) Its a long flight just for the week! :) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/9936-moving-to-hong-kong/#findComment-298566 Share on other sites
alfie
A friend of mine moved out to Discovery Bay about 15 months ago with her two small kids (a baby and a 3 year old) and found it VERY easy to settle in. Loads of families with little ones and nice pace of life from what she's told me. Good luck! candj
Hi Beec, to answer your question, we usually stay in a hotel in Central when we go to HK because it's close to friends, husband's clients, and we've always stayed there even before children. We too had wee ones at one point or another and our hotel was very good with children (as is all of HK and China for that matter) offering to make veg/fruit purees and also cleared out the minibar for us so that we could stock it with groceries for the kids. Also, congee (rice porridge) is great for children at that age and you can find everywhere. You just have to ask but I think all hotels are very helpful with accommodating and catering for children. If you still want a service apartment recommendation I could ask so let me know. And just as a FYI, summer is very hot and humid and indoors can be absolutely freezing with the a/c on full blast so pack things like cardigans for your little one.Phillyboy - Disco Bay is fabulous with children with the beach and lots of playgroups and other children around. Should you move there, make sure you get the yearly pass for Disneyland frightening as it sounds but you'll probably use it - we don't even live there and I wish we got them for all the times we've been there. Good luck. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/9936-moving-to-hong-kong/#findComment-299398 Share on other sites
