Eating disorders and pregnancy: Developing training for healthcare professionals

What is the purpose of the research?

We are a small team of researchers from King?s College London and we are developing a training film about eating disorders for health professionals who care for pregnant women and new mothers. We want to include information about eating disorders and advice on how best to support women during this time. We need the help of mothers of young children who have experienced eating disorders in the past to help us develop the content of the film.

Who can take part?

We are inviting mothers who have previously experienced eating disorders to share their experiences of pregnancy and postnatal care with us. We also want to consult with maternity healthcare professionals who have experience of supporting women who have had eating disorders: if you know anyone who might like to get involved, please ask them to contact Amanda.

What does the study involve?

You can share your experiences by either attending a short workshop in London during August or September, or by email, or by telephone. If you choose to attend the workshop, we will reimburse your travel expenses and provide refreshments.

How can you take part?

If you are interested in coming to the workshop or contributing by email or phone, please contact project coordinator Amanda Bye to find more.

    • That'll be a strobe gun, and yes, it is used for ignition timing. Not so useful with modern cars because timing is done via the ECU, but you could lock yourself in your darkened garage, put on some late 80s Detroit techno - such as Derrick May's 'Strings of Life - and use the strobe light to have yourself a little rave. The above websites are close to useless for checking the service history of older cars - there's no legal requirement to have your car serviced, let alone have it recorded somewhere.
    • Call National Grid and say you have a problem with a gas pipe  0800 111 999  and with luck they will fix it for free.  Most likely my diagnosis.   Some nutter had done their own gas plumbing in my house and National Grid blanked off both a supply to an old gas fire and a wrought iron pipe in the bathroom that supplied to the old bathroom water heater originally in the house. Extremely unlikely to be connected, may be from the days of gas lighting (mainly over by the 1920s) .  Gas connection will have long since been modernised.  If it hasn't been blanked off then just turn it on and sniff, or if you are like me light it.  This is how gas fitters did it in the past,  Although at your own risk (you are more likely to asphyxiate from natural gas, it is not poisonous, and the smell is an additive, so you can smell leaks. Chances are you are old enough to have used Bunsen burners at school. The end of the video is great, the biggest source of gas is your boiler, and if you house hasn't blown up already......
    • Thanks, that's very helpful to have that confirmed! Really wasn't sure what we were dealing with. Will look into a gas engineer...
    • Ah, dozy me.  Thanks for pointing that out.   I was so impressed by the MOT details being there I  didn't  expect anything else could be so didn't check any further.  I've not owned anything with an internal combustion engine for decades.  Recently found a light tool that I've a dim memory of using for (??) timing checks.
