Quarantine and compassionate reasons to travel

Hi there, we just came back from an amber list country and now on our day 2 of 10 days quarantine which will be reduced to 5 days because we opted for a test and release. We sent the day 2 test today.

Yesterday though my father in law was rushed and admitted to hospital and he is seriously ill now and because his age (92 yrs) is at risk of dying.

Is there any way we could go back while in quarantine? Any lawyer our there who could give us any advices.

Much appreciated

Anna

I'm sorry to hear this, and I can't help with the query, but do you mean you need to go back to the country you have just travelled from?

Sorry to hear that.

No legal advice but here are links to government sites that may be useful. It may be possible for one person to get an exemption to quarantine here https://www.gov.uk/guidance/exemptions-from-managed-quarantine-for-medical-and-compassionate-reasons#compassionate-reasons. It sounds like there will need to be travel to another country so the restrictions there will also need to be checked in case they have changed since you last arrived. If you speak the language and can check the countries site, if not FCO info is here https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice

    • I have no doubt that local people are genuinely involved (and personally can understand their not wanting to publicise their involvement). That said the proliferation of One groups across London indicates a degree of co-ordination which suggests it is more than just a local grassroots group. I’m not really that interested, except that many of their supporters do bang on about transparency and accountability. I would be interested in the substance of their latest missive. Who has been pressurising the emergency services and how? Who genuinely believes that people are partially covering their plates and driving through due to inadequate signage? Sounds a little ridiculous / desperate. It feels like it may be time for them to start coming to terms with the changes tbh.
