Recommendation of a great local builder

Recommended Posts

I just want to add another recommendation for Gary Skinner (07572588222). He had recently done a load of work in our home (building partition wall, re-doing bathroom, decorating, fixing ventilation) and we were very happy with it all, so we asked him to take on the job of completing trnasforming our small back garden. He and his team did a really excellent job ? they cleared the whole garden, built flower beds, laid an artificial lawn and cut and installed a paved patio. If we hadn?t maxed out our budget we would have got him to build some fitted storage round the side of the building too. You can see from the pictures the total transformation! We are thrilled with the result and would highly recommend Gary. He mainly does building/decoration and carpentry work but is able to turn his hand to just about anything and has lots of good ideas . He?s also very considerate and tidy, and good with communication. Very highly recommended!

We recently fully refurbished a bedroom (including fixing existing sash window) and used Gary Skinner from First Choice Decorating (07572588222 / [email protected]). From the design phase to the finished product, Gary was very professional, resourceful, meticulous and to boot a very nice guy. We are thoroughly satisfied with the refurb work that he has done and would wholeheartedly recommend his services to anyone. Thanks Gary for your hard work we love our new room.

All the best,

Very happy customers

We are long term fans of Gary and his work. I first used him over 13 years ago to redecorate a flat and he's just finished some work for us this week to the same high spec, on time and on budget. He's not your man at all if you want a quick slap dash coat of paint or a quick botch. But if you want a quality job which will last he's definitely the one for you. We're about to get him to redo our sitting room, which he did 10 years ago - pre kids, pre animals - and the work he put into all the prep 10 years ago has made it last a decade.

Quality product, quality guy.

EDIT: And true to form, Gary's done a great job on the sitting room. Some before and after pics here:

I can certainly recommend Gary Skinner and his team (First Choice Decorating 07572588222). Really pleased with the work we have had done to our property in West Dulwich. They completely transformed a very bad extension at our property aswell as repairing sash windows & kitchen ceiling & even building a new garden shed. Paint work is exceptional. They are meticulous to detail and their work is of an excellent standard. Gary arranged the plumber, electrician & plasterer which was really convenient for us. Everyone he chose was of the same high quality standard. Would gladly approach Gary again for any work that needs doing. Thanks Gary & Ray!

    • Hmmm, millions of animals are killed each year to eat in this country.  10,000 animals (maybe many more) reared to be eaten by exotic pets, dissected by students, experimented on by cosmetic and medical companies.  Why is this any different? Unless you have a vegan lifestyle most of us aren't in a position to judge.  I've not eaten meat for years, try not to buy leather and other animal products as much as possible but don't read every label, and have to live with the fact that for every female chick bred to (unaturally) lay eggs for me to eat, there will be male that is likely top be slaughtered, ditto for the cow/milk machines - again unnatural. I wasn't aware that there was this sort of market, but there must be a demand for it and doubt if it is breaking any sort of law. Happy to be proved wrong on anything and everything.
    • I don't know how spoillable food can be used as evidence in whatever imaginary CSI scenario you are imagining.  And yes, three times. One purchase was me, others were my partner. We don't check in with each other before buying meat. Twice we wrote it off as incidental. But now at three times it seems like a trend.   So the shop will be hearing from me. Though they won't ever see me again that's for sure.  I'd be happy to field any other questions you may have Sue. Your opinion really matters to me.
    • If you thought they were off, would it not have been a good idea to have kept them rather than throwing them away, as evidence for Environmental Health or whoever? Or indeed the shop? And do you mean this is the third time you have bought chicken from the same shop which has been off? Have you told the shop? Why did you buy it again if you have twice previously had chicken from there which was off? Have I misunderstood?
    • I found this post after we just had to throw away £14 of chicken thighs from Dugard in HH, and probably for the 3rd time. They were roasted thoroughly within an hour of purchase. But they came out of the oven smelling very woofy.  We couldn't take a single bite, they were clearly off. Pizza for dinner it is then. Very disappointing.
