Back to the '70s...

Nigello

Recommended Posts

For about ninety seconds the length of LL (viewed from the new school/old police station, up and down) was empty of moving traffic. There was not a bus, moped, cyclist, car or van. Barry Road was similarly quiet about ten minutes later (1625, or thereabouts). It must be to do with the fact that schools are on holiday. It really reminded me of how traffic would often disappear even on busy roads for a few minutes way back when.

I had a similar experience walking up LL from Goose Green a couple of months ago; no traffic for three or four minutes in the early evening, then a solitary bus, was weird, but cool, being also a child of 71 it also brought me back for a moment : )

Nigello, SE22Cat (respect your choice of course, but hope it's OK if I 'uppercase' you, I get all tense otherwise) and DBB, if I may address you as such.

I'd like to suggest some songs that might have enhanced your experiences.

Presumptuous, I know but I hope you indulge me and heck I mean all sorts of well!

Nigello, I could hear T Rex's 'Life's A Gas' playing along to your experience. Hope you like it.

SE22Cat, all's I could hear when I read your post was the fine Mott the Hoople song 'Sea Diver', you say 'weird, but cool' the absence of traffic, and the temporary solitude all seems to come together for me.

DulwichBB I'm captivated by the obvious joy of your post, it's a fantastic thing with you taking such pleasure in walking to your Mum's. I don't exactly know why (but at the same time I don't know why I shouldn't) but I'm going with the great George McRae and 'Rock Your Baby'. Perhaps you might throw a shape or two this 25th, hope so.

Anyway, hope all's well with you all and let's keep the 70's prominent, at least in our hearts.

    • Cars are getting bigger and heavier. Speed enforcement is pretty rare. Hopefully we'll see regulation to stop the car bloat arms race, and perhaps moves to use the same geolocation speed limiters deemed essential for electric hire scooters, but not currently SUVs
    • Another recommendation for Half Moon- my youngest daughter attended and it was by far the best nursery we’ve ever experienced. The teachers are just wonderful and they care so much for the children (who, in return, love them to bits). There’s also a very low staff turnover, so there’s real stability and continuity for the children. My daughter left each day so happy and proud to show me what she’d learnt. It’s amazing!
    • Did you take the car number? Otherwise the council wil have to look through it for an address.
    • Well if you did get anywhere please let me know... we have speed cushions outside our property in Honor Oak Road, my house has been being shaken along with the accompanying noise since 2008.. the council  just keeps telling me it not the speed cushions and we are too far away from them.
