Hi EDF'ers! I am planning to roll out some significant upgrades to the EDF platform at some point in the next few weeks. The main aims of this upgrade are: To make the forum easier and simpler to use. Add some genuinely useful features which people have previously asked for. Modernise the layout to bring it up to 2023 standard Here is a summary of the more significant changes: A local events calendar This is a new area of the forum which allows people to submit, view and comment on upcoming events. This will be similar to the 'Whats on in East Dulwich' board, however the big difference is that you will be able to see a clear date, time, venue and overview of all events, organised in chronological order on one page. Improved For Sale section When you enter the For Sale or Family Room classifieds board, there will be an option to see thumbnails of the photos people have uploaded of their item, instead of a text list. This will hopefully make it much quicker and easier for people to browse. Simpler Post Editor box The post editor box (the text entry box when creating a post) will be simplified. For example, allowing you to see formatting as you type instead of having to use code markup. Easier to use Private message interface The Private Messages interface is (IMO) not visually appealing, especially when using the interface on mobile. The new private message interface will be 'chat / messenger' style, so you can see the flow of the conversation. I will provide more information nearer the time of the switchover, including a more in-depth description of the improvements. Now to the part where you can help! I would greatly appreciate volunteers to test the new changes and provide feedback. If you volunteer, I will send you a link to the demo (test) version of the forum. You can access it whenever you like. I will provide instructions on the areas which require testing and feedback. If you would like to sign up as a volunteer, please fill in the following form and I'll get back to you in a few days: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScjrKEud--mV59r9nKuCj_aiqwY-HMJUGxElB6KRUQJ0Bjmog/viewform?usp=sf_link Thanks all. - Joe

Agree, its not going to be statistically perfect as we're adding a leading question and will be mainly viewed by people affected. But good to know the sorts of numbers of residents who are viewing this topic and suffering the same problem nonetheless!
-
I've added a poll to this topic which will hopefully give us an insight into the proportion of SE22 residents affected by the Royal Mail delays. I'd be interested to hear if any SE15 residents, who get post from the same Peckham Delivery Office, are experiencing the same delays as SE22 residents.

(Bumping a topic from earlier this year - still very relevant) The latest report for Dulwich Medical Centre has just been published and doesn't make for pleasant reading! https://www.cqc.org.uk/location/1-565650623 https://www.mylondon.news/news/south-london-news/dulwich-gp-put-special-measures-25456602

Moved this topic to the General ED Issues section for more views. You are correct, there is no CPZ that side of Lordship Lane. Parking is unrestricted so no need for a permit. I don't live on that road but I have good reason to believe on-road parking can sometimes be scarce in the roads just off of Lordship Lane. Other forum members may have more info.

Thanks for posting. I have been looking at adding a 'WYSIWIG' post editor for phpBB, but unfortunately I've not been able to find one which is bug free and which I'm happy with. Unfortunately the one you linked to is for an old version of phpBB so won't be compatible.

There's a new ramen bar called Supa Ya Ramen opening on Rye Lane where Taco Queen used to be. https://www.instagram.com/p/Cj-ShM8okMb/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=

I had reports of this from other people as well. The unread count needs resyncing, so you won't be able to fix it yourself. I will try and solve this at the weekend.

All old posts were transferred to the new forum, so they will still be searchable. Best way to find them is to go to the The Family Room Discussion page and enter the school name into the "Search this forum..." box at the top of the page. There was a Charter school SEN topic earlier this year here: /viewtopic.php?t=2255291 Hope that helps!

Foxtons on Lordship Lane soon to become a Poundland Local
Joe replied to teddyboy23's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
There's a Poundland in Chiswick and Putney High streets, both of which are upmarket areas with high street rents I'd assume to be higher than LL. So clearly its working for them. -
Just to confirm, Barry has been banned from the forum as of a few months ago and I have hidden the recommendations given to him. New forum members won't be able to find his posts. He did have a handful of recommendations from established forum members which I expect were legitimate. However he has at some point this year gone rouge and started scamming people.

Its a bit of a weird one. I've not been getting logged out on my own devices, but I'm sure that it happening to certain people as I can see you are having to submit logins on a regular basis. I still think its related to some conflict caused by cookies for people who used the old forum system. I'll let you know if I find anything.

You can use the form here to request a username change: /contactadmin

Poundland is - its replacing Foxtons. Its discussed here: /viewtopic.php?t=2286345 Haven't heard anything about Wagamama. Any source for that one?

You can find a copy of the old 'Local Info' page here. Obviously not up to date - the list of Councillors is very old. Adding extra content like this to the forum is on my TODO list. It will be beneficial for people living in and moving to the area. Another potential benefit is improving the forum's search engine optimisation (SEO), so people searching for something like 'East Dulwich transport links' or 'Southwark Council Services' would find an article on this website. Some ideas I had (feel free to suggest more) General introduction to East Dulwich, e.g. history, local parks Southwark Council services (council tax payment, parking info, libraries etc) Transport links in East Dulwich (info about train services, buses) Local pubs

Melbourne Grove Market Trial Online Survey
Joe replied to andrewc's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Unfortunately it's been cancelled, as many other events have this weekend. https://consultations.southwark.gov.uk/environment-leisure/melbourne-grove-market-trial/ * Please note - the market will not now be going ahead on 10th September as planned * -
Hi Sue. You definitely shouldn't need to keep logging in. I suspect the problem is that you have some cookies stored on your phone/laptop from the previous forum software which are conflicting with the new forum software. Could I ask you to try something which might help? If you go to the bottom of any page on the forum, click the icon in the corner and press the Delete Cookies link. Pressing it will log you out, however next time you login it should clear any conflicting cookies. Hopefully that will stop you getting logged out in the future. Let me know if you are still consistently having to login even after you've used that Delete Cookies link.

I can see the problem. Based on your screenshot, you have saved a draft, then you are accessing it via the Manage drafts section in the control panel. When you do this, there should be a Load Draft and View/Edit link next to the draft. To load the message into the post editor, you have to press 'Load Draft' as shown below The post editor is the same screen you see when you reply to a topic normally (without going through the draft screen). Here you can upload attachments. However, In your screenshot, I can see that you've instead clicked the View/Edit button on the drafts screen. This is a screen which only lets you edit the raw text of the message. It doesn't let you do any formatting or attach images. Its just there to let you make a quick modification to a message you've saved. To be honest, I've never seen this View/Edit screen before - it does seem a little pointless and I'm not sure why you'd use it over the 'Load Draft'. Maybe I will look into removing this to avoid confusion. But in summary - if you are using drafts, you need to use the Load Draft button. If you are having problems uploading attachments from the post editor screen, then do let me know.

Hi, I can't see your screenshot, but this is what it looks like on my phone once you press the Add Files button on the attachments tab. I've just uploaded this from my own phone. Pressing the 'Camera' button will let you take a photo straight away and upload it, or the 'Files' button will let you find something you've already taken. Could you let me know which brand and model number your phone is? I will look into it.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'd be happy to pin a 'Cost of Living Tips' thread to the top of The Lounge, if we can collate some good ideas to start it off. Obviously the thread would be non-political and focused around practical ways of making the most out of your monthly budget. Personally I find MoneySavingExpert very useful - lots of good articles about how to cut your mobile, internet, travel costs.

Introducing: The Trades and Services Directory Making it easy to find local East Dulwich tradespeople and services. One of the best assets of EDF is the large database of member's recommendations given to tradespeople over the years. Many people (including myself) have used it in the past to find handymen, plumbers, electricians, carpenters etc. One negative I found was that it isn't particularly easy to search for tradespeople on the website. Previously you had to use the search tool which doesn't always give you a nice list of results. The new Trades and Services Directory consolidates all the review threads on one screen. For example, you can find a list of recommended plumbers which the forum has accumulated over the years. The category list (see screenshot above) can be found on each page. On desktop, its in the sidebar and on mobile, its at the bottom of each page. There are some criteria around which tradespeople get shown on the directory page. Please read the FAQ located on each directory page for more info. Hopefully you will find this useful! Please report here if you have any problems using this feature. Joe

Slightly across the SE22 boundary, but Jay Rayner recently wrote a good review of Walter’s https://www.theguardian.com/food/2022/aug/21/walters-london-so-many-reasons-to-go-back-restaurant-review Anyone here tried it?

So that's around £200 a month. Seems very high for that time of year. Even with today's in prices, I'd expect a 1 bed in this area to spend around £30-£60 on gas a month during the spring/summer. Maybe a bit more if you both have multiple showers a day and use a gas hob regularly. Are you sure your boiler isn't running 24/7? Do you have a combi boiler? If so can you hear it 'on' only when you actually use hot water?

Oops - I changed the username of the Twitter account and didn't update my post! The username is now https://twitter.com/dulwich_forum. I've corrected my original post. The reason I didn't go for something like EastDulwichForum is because it exceeds the maximum twitter username length. There were a few other viable usernames (e.g. EDForum) which were taken. No plans to rebrand from East Dulwich Forum! The forum design is what's known as a 'responsive' layout, which means the layout adapts to how large your screen size is. If you are viewing on a small device like a iPhone, the layout will look like the one I added in the screenshot in my first post. This is the layout I've recently been making changes to. On a larger screen device like an iPad or laptop, the layout is different. It is a bit more spread out. The 'Last Post' time is in a different place - the screenshot below shows where you'd hopefully see it on iPad (let me know if you don't see it though!)

ADMIN NOTE: A few people had made reports of the LTN thread going a bit off-topic (gravitating towards licensing of cyclists), so I've split the unrelated stuff into a separate Lounge thread: /viewtopic.php?t=2285056. Feel free to pick up the discussion there.
