  1. Hi Sue, I had a look at the server page view logs to see what happened. I can see you requested the New Post page from the server in the Trades section at 08/Aug/2022 17:17:26 Then your browser requested the forum homepage on 17:18:30 Then the 'About This forum' section at 17:18:53 (and presumably posted this thread) So based on that, it suggests you may have accidentally pressed the Home button on the page as you were writing the message. If you accidentally navigate to a different page while writing a message, you should be able to press the back button and the message will still be there. On Android Chrome, the back button is usually the < arrow at the bottom of the screen. The "Save Draft" is also helpful if you are writing a long message. If you press that then next time you enter the posting page you will see a "Load Draft" button next to the "Save Draft".
  2. Just so you know, I've just enabled Youtube links. Its now simpler - all you need to do is enter the Youtube URL , e.g. "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z4ZipKdI1sY" and the video will show on the page automatically. You don't need to copy the 'embed' code like before. (malumbu I have edited your post to make it work) Unfortunately the previous Youtube links have been lost but they will work from now on :-)

    Private messaging

The website looks different when you are viewing it in a mobile verses a desktop. That is intentional. The mobile view is a slightly cut down version of the desktop and more optimised for a small screen and navigating with your fingers. The "Last Poster Name" and "Latest Post" button (as mentioned above) have been hidden in mobile view, but they are there on the desktop view. If you want to use the full desktop view when using your mobile, all you need to do is press the Desktop View button on your mobile: iPhone: https://www.browserstack.com/guide/request-desktop-site-on-iphone Android: https://browserhow.com/how-to-view-full-desktop-site-on-chrome-android-phone/#how-to-enable-desktop-site-in-chrome-android (Let me know if that doesn't work!) I do agree that perhaps there is an argument to making the "Last Poster Name" show on mobile view by default. I will look into doing this in the next few days. But for the moment, feel free to use the 'Desktop View' workaround I've mentioned above.

    Private messaging

Yes this is correct. Private Messages are always immediately 'sent' in this forum software. The 'Outbox' term is confusing because you'd usually associate this with an email system, where its used to describe a message which has been written but not yet sent to the recipient. A few people were getting confused by this so I've now changed the label to read 'Sent messages (Unread)' and 'Send messages (Read)'.
  5. The old Phorum software was not necessarily insecure as far as I'm aware, its more that was no longer being actively maintained. So theoretically any security holes, if they were found in the future, would not get patched in a timely manner. A bit like if you were running an old unsupported operating system.
  6. I haven't seen this happen myself so I'd be keen to investigate. Are you using your phone to view the website? Or desktop? If mobile, which model of phone are you using?
  7. Hi Betty, The post date is just above the post text itself, in grey. Can you see this?

    Red dots!

Hi Sue, On the home page, if you scroll down to under the forums, there is a 'Mark Forums Read' link. That will get rid of all the red dots and next time they will only show against the threads with unread posts. See screenshot below.
  9. An update: you may have noticed I've made some usability improvements to the layout, including adding a 'Send private message' link under each person's username. Unlike before, its also visible in mobile view.
  10. Hi thebond. Thanks for the feedback. I agree with the points you've made. I have just made some adjustments to various things in mobile view, including showing the attachment icon as you suggested.
  11. Ok I've found what was causing the The language you specified is not valid error. It should be fixed now. Let me know if you still see it anywhere.
  12. Direct email sending was always disabled globally (only PMs are allowed) so that setting was misleading, it was always 'off' even though it said 'on' in your User Control Panel . I have completely removed the setting from the User Control Panel to avoid confusion.
  13. You should not need to login every time you visit the forum. As Spartacus says, could you try and click the 'Remember Me' checkbox? Let me know if this still doesn't work.
  14. Hi Joe. The issue I mentioned last week is still happening. Anything I should be doing to ensure PMs do not sit in my outbox? Thanks. The way its works on this forum software is that the PMs stay in the Outbox until the person who they are being sent to logs into the forum. At which point they move to the Sent folder. So don't worry you are not doing anything wrong :) Unrelated, but while we're on the subject of PMs, I have now enabled new PM email notifications by default. That's how it worked on the previous forum. I know a few people were confused about why they were not receiving an email notification when they received a PM.
  15. Improving the private message button when using a mobile device is is something on my TODO list. Hopefully I'll have a solution ready soon. For the moment, the workarounds (as mentioned by Sidhue) are either: - Turn your phone so the page is in landscape (sometimes the button will show on a wider screen) - Click on the person's username on the left of the screen, which takes you to their profile. Then click "Send private message".
  16. There have been a few issues with sending automatic forum emails to Microsoft addresses (Hotmail / Outlook / Live) over the last couple of days. That was probably the issue in your case. Thankfully, its now sorted and the password reset emails should work as normal.
  17. Hi Arran Please contact me via email - [email protected] - and I will send you further details.
  18. Both of these should be fixed. Those links now to go to the correct location. Thanks for reporting!
  19. I've literally just managed to fix the report post link. It should work now. I think the profile link should be working too. If it isn't, could you let me know where its located? Thanks.
  20. Appreciated! To mark all the posts in the forum as read, go to the main page (https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk), scroll to the bottom and click "Mark forums read". Next time you visit all the forums/threads with new posts will be marked with a green icon next to them.
  21. The threads are still here, but they will all moved to the General ED issues so they're probably not easy to find. Mark informs me that the Drawing Room section hasn't been used for quite some time and it was hidden on the previous forum.
  22. Hi Ian, I have enabled .pdf attachments. Let me know if it still doesn't work.
  23. Thanks for the feedback all. I have been working my way through these in the background in the last couple of days. Still work in progress. This should now be working. However I still need to fix the avatar link on the right navbar This has been increased The BBCode option is enabled by default now. Some other things of note: - The 'Sent Messages' folder will be empty and does not contain PMs you've sent prior to 10th July. They all appear in your inbox instead. However, any new PMs you send going forward will correctly placed into the Sent Messages folder. - The link to send people PMs next to forum posts is a small and unintuitive. It does not seem to display in mobile view. I will be looking at fixing this. For the moment, you can PM someone by clicking the username of the person next to their post and pressing 'Send private message'
  24. Hello East Dulwich Forum! Firstly, let me introduce myself. I'm Joe and I will be your new EDF admin. :) I moved to the area just over a year ago and have been enjoying East Dulwich life every since! As many of you know, I have been working with Mark in the last few weeks to handover the day to day operation of EDF. Mark created the site all the way back in 2006 and has done a brilliant job over the years maintaining it, however as you know he has been looking to move on. I am a software developer and have previous experience running online communities so this was a natural fit. I have used the forum many times in the past year to find local recommended tradesmen so I understand how valuable it is to have an active online local community forum. What's changed with the forum? As you can see, the forum has had a big facelift. The previous forum software was very much out-of-date and needed upgraded for various technical reasons. The new design should hopefully make things easier to navigate when using mobiles and tablets. The forum software (phpBB) is similar to the old one and has all of the same features. Hopefully existing members will feel at home but I understand that it will take some getting used to. Feel free to give feedback in this thread if you have any trouble. Unfortunately, due to an issue with the backup, we have lost a few weeks worth of posts in the forum (since 20th June). Sadly, these cannot be recovered. However, thankfully, all other forum posts, accounts etc since 2006 have been migrated. There are still some further tweaks which I'll be making to the layout over the coming weeks. What are the future plans for the forum? EDF will continue to exist as it has been since 2006 and there will be no significant changes to how the forum is operated. It will always be free to use. I will continue to use forum sponsorships / advertising to fund the running costs as Mark has been doing since the start. I'm having trouble with the new website We have completed a few rounds of testing prior to the launching of the new EDF, however as with all IT projects there will likely be some teething problems. Please reply to this thread if you have any feedback. I hope you enjoy using the new forum! Best Regards, Joe
