Hi all, You may have noticed there have been a few visual changes to the forum recently. I will summarise these here: New website header The most noticeable change is that we now have a more visually appealing website header, including a photo of the top of Lordship Lane. Hopefully make the forum look a bit less plain and 'corporate'. The image should display nicely on both mobile and desktops (let me know if not!). Font change A minor change, but the website font has changed to 'Rubik'. I chose this one because its easy to read - slightly softer than the one used before. Social Media There is now an official EDF Twitter account: If you use Twitter, feel free to follow! Mobile site improvements I've been trying to make the mobile version of the site more useable and useful. One of the pieces of feedback I've seen elsewhere was that it was not possible to see when someone has replied. This has now been added. There is also a more obvious 'Last Post' button which will take you directly to the last post in the thread (you can also click the green round icon on the left) Forum Attachments The attachment size has been increased to 8 megabytes. This will hopefully allow you to directly upload images from your camera if you're using a mobile. No more having to compress/resize your image first like on the old website! As always, feedback welcome - positive or negative.

Healthcare is a topic often discussed on the forum, however there are various practical and usability reasons why we shouldn't have a separate forum board for every topic area. The General ED discussion board is a natural and obvious area to post local healthcare topics (or the Lounge if you want to discuss the overall government level approach to it). I have created some new boards recently (Business Requests, Reviews, Jobs) but that was due to high numbers of people searching for these topics behind the scenes, and to make it easier to search the forum for feedback. The COVID board is gone but the threads still exist. Here's a list of all of them for posterity (feel free to bookmark). If there is a new crisis to a similar level we saw two years ago, then it (or a similar board) can be re-instated. /viewtopic.php?t=2104115 2020-03-17 Any aid group covering Rockells Place? /viewtopic.php?t=2103948 2020-03-16 Healthy couple happy to help anyone in isolation /viewtopic.php?t=2104033 2020-03-17 mutual aid whatsapp group for barry road /viewtopic.php?t=2104366 2020-03-18 Landroft Road - Happy to Help /viewtopic.php?t=2102937 2020-03-13 Assistance for anyone in quarantine? /viewtopic.php?t=2104015 2020-03-17 Assistance offered in SE22 - Food shop, dog walking etc /viewtopic.php?t=2104670 2020-03-18 Goose Green Mutual Aid // Whatsapp, Spreadsheet & Newsletter /viewtopic.php?t=2104762 2020-03-19 Nunhead support group details. /viewtopic.php?t=2104773 2020-03-19 Free babysitting! /viewtopic.php?t=2104844 2020-03-19 Free Ice - pick up NOW /viewtopic.php?t=2104875 2020-03-19 Urgent - Please help our high street if you can. Its amazing to think the forum has been going since 2006 and we still have threads in the database from back then! Before Facebook, Twitter... anything you take for granted today. Long may it live.
-
The Asda on that end of Rye Lane shut down a few months ago, apparently due to rent increases. Its still offered for let as of now.
-
I believe The Castle pub on the corner of Goodrich Road / Crystal Palace Road still has a games area with darts board. I have not been there recently so hopefully that hasn't changed.
-
I agree that the COVID forum is now (for obvious reasons) under-utilised. I am planning to make some adjustments to the forum boards in the next few days so I'll give some consideration about what to do with it. The healthcare board idea is a legitimate idea. The only concern I have is that it could be too under-utilised. Personally I prefer boards to be well utilised to ensure topics don't get 'lost', and helps reduce the chances of new users posting in the wrong place. Maybe a more general 'Local Public Services' board, i.e. for borough/GLA provisioned services like healthcare, transport, waste services and alike?
-
Do you mean the one next to East Dulwich Tavern? It was listed for let recently, but has gone under offer: https://www.hindwoods.co.uk/propertydetail/?propertyDetail=4611 If you need to contact the landlord directly, you may be able to find this on the Land Registry website by downloading the title for the property.

Hi Sue, I had a look at the server page view logs to see what happened. I can see you requested the New Post page from the server in the Trades section at 08/Aug/2022 17:17:26 Then your browser requested the forum homepage on 17:18:30 Then the 'About This forum' section at 17:18:53 (and presumably posted this thread) So based on that, it suggests you may have accidentally pressed the Home button on the page as you were writing the message. If you accidentally navigate to a different page while writing a message, you should be able to press the back button and the message will still be there. On Android Chrome, the back button is usually the < arrow at the bottom of the screen. The "Save Draft" is also helpful if you are writing a long message. If you press that then next time you enter the posting page you will see a "Load Draft" button next to the "Save Draft".

Joe replied to ????'s topic in The Lounge
Just so you know, I've just enabled Youtube links. Its now simpler - all you need to do is enter the Youtube URL , e.g. "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z4ZipKdI1sY" and the video will show on the page automatically. You don't need to copy the 'embed' code like before. (malumbu I have edited your post to make it work) Unfortunately the previous Youtube links have been lost but they will work from now on :-) -
The website looks different when you are viewing it in a mobile verses a desktop. That is intentional. The mobile view is a slightly cut down version of the desktop and more optimised for a small screen and navigating with your fingers. The "Last Poster Name" and "Latest Post" button (as mentioned above) have been hidden in mobile view, but they are there on the desktop view. If you want to use the full desktop view when using your mobile, all you need to do is press the Desktop View button on your mobile: iPhone: https://www.browserstack.com/guide/request-desktop-site-on-iphone Android: https://browserhow.com/how-to-view-full-desktop-site-on-chrome-android-phone/#how-to-enable-desktop-site-in-chrome-android (Let me know if that doesn't work!) I do agree that perhaps there is an argument to making the "Last Poster Name" show on mobile view by default. I will look into doing this in the next few days. But for the moment, feel free to use the 'Desktop View' workaround I've mentioned above.
-
Yes this is correct. Private Messages are always immediately 'sent' in this forum software. The 'Outbox' term is confusing because you'd usually associate this with an email system, where its used to describe a message which has been written but not yet sent to the recipient. A few people were getting confused by this so I've now changed the label to read 'Sent messages (Unread)' and 'Send messages (Read)'.
-
The old Phorum software was not necessarily insecure as far as I'm aware, its more that was no longer being actively maintained. So theoretically any security holes, if they were found in the future, would not get patched in a timely manner. A bit like if you were running an old unsupported operating system.
-
I haven't seen this happen myself so I'd be keen to investigate. Are you using your phone to view the website? Or desktop? If mobile, which model of phone are you using?
-
Hi Betty, The post date is just above the post text itself, in grey. Can you see this?
-
Hi Sue, On the home page, if you scroll down to under the forums, there is a 'Mark Forums Read' link. That will get rid of all the red dots and next time they will only show against the threads with unread posts. See screenshot below.
-
An update: you may have noticed I've made some usability improvements to the layout, including adding a 'Send private message' link under each person's username. Unlike before, its also visible in mobile view.
-
Hi thebond. Thanks for the feedback. I agree with the points you've made. I have just made some adjustments to various things in mobile view, including showing the attachment icon as you suggested.
-
Ok I've found what was causing the The language you specified is not valid error. It should be fixed now. Let me know if you still see it anywhere.
-
Direct email sending was always disabled globally (only PMs are allowed) so that setting was misleading, it was always 'off' even though it said 'on' in your User Control Panel . I have completely removed the setting from the User Control Panel to avoid confusion.
-
You should not need to login every time you visit the forum. As Spartacus says, could you try and click the 'Remember Me' checkbox? Let me know if this still doesn't work.
-
Hi Joe. The issue I mentioned last week is still happening. Anything I should be doing to ensure PMs do not sit in my outbox? Thanks. The way its works on this forum software is that the PMs stay in the Outbox until the person who they are being sent to logs into the forum. At which point they move to the Sent folder. So don't worry you are not doing anything wrong :) Unrelated, but while we're on the subject of PMs, I have now enabled new PM email notifications by default. That's how it worked on the previous forum. I know a few people were confused about why they were not receiving an email notification when they received a PM.
-
Improving the private message button when using a mobile device is is something on my TODO list. Hopefully I'll have a solution ready soon. For the moment, the workarounds (as mentioned by Sidhue) are either: - Turn your phone so the page is in landscape (sometimes the button will show on a wider screen) - Click on the person's username on the left of the screen, which takes you to their profile. Then click "Send private message".
-
There have been a few issues with sending automatic forum emails to Microsoft addresses (Hotmail / Outlook / Live) over the last couple of days. That was probably the issue in your case. Thankfully, its now sorted and the password reset emails should work as normal.
-
Hi Arran Please contact me via email - [email protected] - and I will send you further details.
