  1. Three questions:

Can Saturday collections be moved so that Friern Road doesn't always have the early collection? It seems from other posts that Friern Road has always had them which doesn't seem fair.

Can Southwark stop the men from coming early and pulling the bins out? (even if this is at 6:15 rather than 5:30 it still is very disturbing to be woken up twice). I have never seen the point of this - fair enough if it is 5 minutes before but not half an hour.

Can Southwark start the Saturday only collections at 7 rather than 6 - I'm assuming the calculations given above are based on the collections starting later every day of the week. (And how do the noise rules fit with this? We can complain if there's private building work starting before 8 any day of the week but not if it's Southwark making the noise!)

I would also be interested in knowing what time the bin collections end each day - isn't it a matter of the existing crew finishing a bit later rather than an additional lorry being laid on? I've never seen any collections happening in the afternoon.

    Thanks

Strong message? dive and you get a ban - complain/appeal and you will be ok. What strong message.

Uefa are a farce. Make the right decision and stick to it.

  3. After this morning's bin collecion, I have just remembered what annoys me most about the procedure. It's not so much the actual bin collection but the fact that some guy (who I assume knocks off earlier than the rest) comes along 30-45 minutes earlier than the van (sometimes at 5:30am) and makes as much noise as he can pulling the bins out of everyone's driveways. I then lie there knowing that it's not worth getting back to sleep as soon enough the van will be along to wake me up again. This was one thing that they did stop doing when I complained 2 years ago but it seems to have started again.

I know - I should just complain again to Southwark...

I have two girls aged 6 and 4 - I'm very concerned about what schooling will be available to them at secondary level.

The demographics of ED seem to be changing quite rapidly and better schooling is needed. This process needs to start immediatley.

I'm would not be interested in more Academies. I'm interested in approrpiate schooling for middle income professional families.

I look forward to hearing from you.

    Michael.

  5. Just watched Panaorama - seems Yorkshire Street in Oldham is fight night every night - These inner cities stories make me feel glad I live in East Dulwich or more generally London. I have been in London for 20 years this year and have been fortunate enough not to have witnessed more than a couple of minor scuffles in that time.

Is London the safest city in England for drinking? (oh and I'm not counting Croydon as London). I have tended to socialise in better areas of London, Islington, Clapham and Dulwich but have been to many other parts of London too and never much trouble.

Having said that I have been out in ED recently and a number of young people arrive in cabs, presumably from other areas, to sample ED's vibe - hope this does not result in ED becoming more troublesome.

  6. Matt - Think we are talking about different things - not sure where you got the Badge of Honour thing from.

Clubs having won the champions league/european cup wear a star to represent this - as i said check out the Celtic, Aston Villa and Notts Forest shirts.

Arsenal have not won the European Cup, simple as that.

  7. Yes it is sad - so much for British people supporting British tennis - think this shows that it was always English tennis the Wimbledon public wanted to support and few of them give a hoot about Murray. Some say its because he says he does not support the English football team but thats just an excuse not to support him, at the end if the day he won't get the same support as Henman because he is not English.
  8. I was wondering if anyone else has an issue with the 6am bin collections that happen on a Saturday morning on Friern Road and the surrounding area. I've lived on the road for 3 years now and have taken to sleeping in the spare room on a Friday night to avoid being woken up on one of the only days I get a lie in (well till 7:30 when the children wake up). I complained to Southwark council about it a couple of years ago and for about 6 months they came slightly later but it's been early again for a while now. I'm thinking of writing again and would definitely do so if I discovered I am not the only one who is disturbed by this. I do remember a thread on this a while ago but couldn't find anything in the archives.
