No, I do not. But I’m not speculating as to the reason, you are.
-
Do you actually know why the shop closed?
-
It was a reference to a much mocked Liz Truss speech. About cheese.
-
Cheese Block, Mons and Heritage formed a cheese triangle.

It does not say “vulnerable car users”. It says: Patrolling targeted areas, highlighting vulnerable vehicles That is very different. I presume “vulnerable vehicles” means those unsecured or likely to be targeted (spates of crimes against particular makes and models seem to occur from time to time). https://www.metengage.co.uk/Content/LocalLookup?__RequestVerificationToken=CfDJ8Nmm_5cXbUhKrvNqLscSU1yTxHl2s2dlNuMf-9dCAUZkSFsh-PnmPvO2SmfJKmIxssNZKuC7gJPI5oM2nV7myMQndh-9-kLDg8-15S0nqYwpvs4j9I_wSNiNkjDlQG13-4yyddWQP__0OrAVYcMY2HI&Lat=51.450531&Lng=-0.0853887&lookupAddress=Dulwich+Village%2C+London%2C+UK

Apart from the fact that you have no idea why this business has closed, the notion that cheese shops are somehow an economic barometer belongs in the small world of Liz Truss.

Is this an attempt at satire?

New Shops in East Dulwich and Nearby - 2025 Edition

“furry friends welcome”. Great, I’ll drop the cat off when it opens. And next door’s rabbits. -
As I asked you previously: exactly when and where? Can we see this leaflet? What exactly were you told? The SNT officers in our ward do sometimes distribute their newsletter door to door and I would imagine the DV team do likewise. SNTs will also conduct targeted patrols of problem areas or to address specific criminal behaviour. But the latest Dulwich Village SNT newsletter (it’s available on the DV SNT twitter feed) makes no mention rising crime, LTNs, road layout changes etc. Nor is there any mention in the DV SNT social media posts. I don’t doubt that the police and PCSOs in the DV team make efforts to speak to people locally and give crime prevention advice. However, your claim that you were told by one of these officers that crime was rising due to changes in traffic management, this to me rings as untrue.

Derelict Grove Tavern - who to contact?
Insuflo replied to Dean Connell's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
There were three vans marked “External Cleaning Contractors” (or words to that effect) outside the Grove Tavern this morning, with blokes who seemed to be looking the place over. Anyone know if it’s going to be scrubbed up? Would this be an end of lease requirement, to hand it back without graffiti and fly posting? -
I simply do not believe that they were.
-
No they haven’t. The link you posted to the Goose Green figures shows that reported crime has not significantly increased in the last year.
-
The priorities for the DV SNT listed are pretty much the same as for all SNTs locally. The crime figures do not back up your hysteria: https://www.met.police.uk/area/your-area/met/southwark/dulwich-village/about-us/top-reported-crimes-in-this-area I’ll take your advice and look into the window of every car in the area to see if they are fitted with the kind anti theft devices that have been in use by every motorist in Britain for the last 50 years. That will definitely prove your contention that Dulwich Village is turning into Grand Theft Auto.
-
I’d be genuinely interested to know exactly when and where these PCSOs were out knocking on doors to warn Dulwich Village denizens of a crime wave. It sounds like an extraordinary policing tactic. Especially given that the stats for reported crimes for the DV ward (up to May 2025) don’t show any increase but a downward trend. How many homes did they visit? Surely not every street in the ward, so which streets did they concentrate on? Did they distribute a leaflet, if so can we see it?

I ordered an empanada and Royal Mail haven’t delivered it because of the roadworks. Bloody Southwark Council.

That would be a corniche market. Ahem.

Or better deleted for passive aggressive link posting.

Poundland East Dulwich soon to be replaced by Tesco Express
Insuflo replied to satsuma's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I can’t remember where I read that figure but this article in the Grauniad from 2023 discusses Ocado results from 2022. The average shopping cart fell to £118 from £129 the previous year. But Ocado lost £500m that year on approximately 20 million orders (circa 400k orders per week). So, averaging out to £25 lost per order. Ocado pauses building new warehouses as annual losses balloon to £500m | Ocado | The Guardian Obviously, the £500m loss includes various factors. But Ocado has existed for 25 years and only made a small profit in a couple of those years. The rest have been huge losses. Yet it continues to raise funds and speculation sends the share price up and down. In that respect, it’s like the UK version of Tesla. Meanwhile, the main growth in the supermarket sector has been for Aldi and Lidl, who do not deliver. -
Four quid! That’ll get me half a pint of lager in the EDT.

More of a Steak Bake kinda thing, then.

Poundland East Dulwich soon to be replaced by Tesco Express
Insuflo replied to satsuma's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I’m not sure home delivery will replace physical supermarkets. I got the impression that they’re generally loss- making for the retailers and they’d much prefer to encourage customers back to the shops. I read somewhere that the typical Ocado order was around £100 but costs Ocado £120 to fulfill. It works for M&S because they have roped Ocado into a contract where Ocado carry the bulk of the loss. -
Me neither. They’re essentially pasties, am I right?

Oh, the humanity. The borough is about 30 square kilometres, so that’s one closure per sq km. Spread over months. The quieter months in the calendar for road use. Some of these closures are a day or two. This is a space filling listicle in a local rag. I genuinely could not give a toss.

No, face to face surgeries are held by the councillors in most wards, including Dulwich Wood, Dulwich Village, Peckham Rye, Rye Lane, Peckham etc: https://moderngov.southwark.gov.uk/mgMemberIndex.aspx?FN=WARD&VW=LIST&PIC=0

It’s a flat fee levy payable by guests staying in hotel and hostel rooms, so added to the bill. This already happens in Manchester and Liverpool ( I think in Liverpool it’s a percentage, so the more expensive rooms pay more). I read somewhere that Edinburgh is doing this next year? Charges of this kind are becoming common around the world. I think it absolutely makes sense for Southwark and other boroughs are bound to follow.
