  1. Hi Sarah, Are you still looking for a nanny? Many thanks, Maki
  2. Hello, my name is Maki. I'm a writer and an artist who loves working with children. I'm looking for a rate of £20 an hour, for a minimum of 20 hours a week - either for one family or as a nanny share. I can offer ad hoc babysitting and evening work as well. I'm located between Catford and Forest Hill but can cycle around Southeast easily and quickly. Prior to my current contract, which ends in late July, I was a nanny for several years to three wonderful girls between the ages of 4-15. Plus, as the eldest daughter of a large family, I have much informal experience of looking after wee ones of all ages - from babies to teens. I'm very familiar with all sorts of childcare tasks, from changing nappies, planning and cooking tasty, healthy meals, cleaning, helping out with homework, arts and crafts, fun trips to the playground, and providing a safe, encouraging space for wee ones to talk about their day. I am degree-educated, with a Masters in ecology and sociology, and have experience in science educational publishing, where I created educational content and learned about many different ways to engage kids in their learning. I'm also a freelance arts and nature facilitator, where I showcase my love of inspiring creativity in others. My work includes collaging workshops, zine-making workshops, reading groups, film clubs, food storytelling, cyanotype printing, and more. As such, I am confident that I can help your kids channel their creative flow, and I can definitely assist with any tricky homework sheets that they may be struggling with. I have helped to motivate and tutor children in literature, science, and maths, helping them improve their grades through fun games and by assessing their own individual learning needs. I'm also more than happy to help out with any housework, and also with animal care as I love animals and have much experience catsitting and dogsitting. I'm comfortable on a bike too if you would like a cyclist. I speak a little Japanese, a little Indonesian, and I love languages - so would be happy to assist with language learning as well. I have a DBS and would happily arrange for a refresher of my first aid training. Most of all, I would love to be a fun, nourishing, and helpful presence for your family. If this sounds of interest to you, and if you're looking for July onwards, please do let me know. Many thanks and I look forward to hearing from you, Maki

  5. Hi, I’m Maki. I’ve just finished an MA in environmental humanities and am looking for part-time or full-time nanny work. I’m a writer and I work in the early mornings, so can only work from after 11 but am otherwise very flexible, and am keen to find a schedule that works for you. In terms of experience, as the eldest daughter to several siblings, I’ve been changing nappies and sorting meals since I was a kid myself. In fact, the main reason I want to do nanny work is that I miss it! I absolutely love kids and believe I’m pretty good with them, being an enthusiastic, kind, and attentive person. I know it’s a bit different when it’s someone else’s kids, so want to add here that I’ve often babysat for friends of family and am always respectful of parenting styles. I can certainly help out with babies and toddlers but I’m especially good with kids 4-12 as I love planning fun activities, doing arts and crafts, helping out with homework, maybe doing some very basic cooking together, playing educational games, and really just listening to kids talk about their day. Prior to my studies I worked as the publications coordinator for a science education company where I learned about different ways to engage kids in their education. I was also a facilitator with a specialty in literature, having facilitated film groups, zine workshops, reading groups, and so can definitely help kids get creative. I absolutely love helping kids get better at their studies - in anything from English to science to maths - and there’s nothing better than watching kids grow confident in themselves. I’m quite good at motivating kids in a non-pressure way, having turned my preteen siblings, both with 0 interest in writing or maths, into star achievers through fun games. Because of these additional skills and experiences I’m looking for a rate of £14-15 an hour. I’m also more than happy to help you out with housework, mealtimes, dog walking, plant care, and though I can’t drive I can pick up/drop off kids and take them to parks or museums etcetera. And if you’re looking for an adult to talk to I’m all ears! I’m going back to Glasgow to watch the kids for a couple of weeks but am available to work from Monday the 10th of October. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you’re interested. I look forward to getting to know you and your wee ones :) Maki
