Thanks all! KateS - boulangerie Jade is a nice cafe, but they don't do fresh cream cakes. Their eclairs are filled with patisserie cream (a kind of custard), not fresh cream. Azalea- thanks and I've been to Bunhead Bakery (a Palestinian bakery) in Herne Hill a few times. There's a nice chocolate bun they do, which is amazing when then sauce is warmed up. But I haven't seen any fresh cream things there, only white icing. Maybe it's only on a certain day. And the last time I checked, Ayres bakers in Nunhead don't do fresh cream things. These are the kind of fresh baked goods I'm thinking of....

So far, I haven't come across a bakery in East Dulwich or the surrounding areas which sells baked goods with fresh cream, other than Greggs on Peckham Rye. I'm thinking of things like chocolate eclairs and cream buns. I passed by the bakery in West Dulwich the other day - it looked traditional so I hoped they might sell some, but sadly when I asked they said they don't sell things with fresh cream. Same for the bakery in Nunhead (I heard they used to, years ago). Does anyone know of any bakeries near here (or further afield) which do sell these? I should say that the M&S chocolate eclairs (the standard ones) are very good and they use proper fresh whipped cream, so I am thankful for that!

It would be interesting to know who the landlord is, how much the rent was increased by, and the reasons for the rise.

Brockwell Lido - in a miserable state
Katherty replied to Juliettep3's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Have seen this on the BBC - BBC News - Brockwell Lido is shabby and neglected, say users https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cz604y93y2xo -
These guys have done a great job for us today - they have cut back and controlled some wild and unruly plants and have sorted out our roses. I would highly recommend them.

i tried to take an alternative route in an Uber to get to Denmark Hill - to avoid goose green - but then got stuck in these instead! Have these appeared recently?

Hello, We live in East Dulwich and would like someone to cut back some unruly bushes in our back garden. Some leaves are high up so a ladder would be needed. Thanks!

This is a small desk. It's solid wood, but I don't know which kind. There are nice grooves in the wood. It belonged to my grandfather. Very characterful and brings warmth to a room. Dimensions are: Height - 72cm Depth - 49 cm Width -91 cm Drawer depth - 9cm I have used it for years as a desk with a laptop. Am getting rid of it because I need a bigger desk with room for a monitor. There is some fading to the varnish on the top and marks, plus signs of general wear. The fading stands out more in the photos than in real life. The desk is generally in a decent condition. The drawer is a good size and useful. There are white marks inside - these are from paper, which I think must have been stuck to the inside of the drawer at some point in the past. I expect it could be sanded down to remove the white marks, but they haven't really bothered me since they can't be seen. £10. Collection from Whateley Road, East Dulwich.

We live on Whateley Road, and the back gardens of Silvester Road back onto us. In one of the gardens near ours, on the Silvester Road side, there's someone who frequently plays loud music during the day. This happens in the summer (it happened a lot last summer too). It is often on weekdays. I realise that on a terraced block you are of course going to hear your neighbours going about life and being outside. But this is so loud, and I doubt everyone on the block wants to hear their music....! I'm working from home today and I have the window shut to try to reduce the noise, which isn't ideal in this weather! I will try to locate the house and ask them to turn it down (though I imagine other neighbours have tried to do the same). Just wondered if anyone else has come across this issue or similar issues, and how you've dealt with it. Thanks!

Sorry to miss this - I wanted to come but couldn't make it this time!

I just called Dulwich Leisure Centre to ask if they know when the pool will reopen. They just said they don't know. They weren't able to give any rough timescale. Think it's been quite a while now?

Good places to eat near Rye Lane?

I see the Janda Diner Times review made it into last week's Week magazine - see photo. Useful to see the summary of the review. -
Brockwell Lido - in a miserable state
Katherty replied to Juliettep3's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I went to Brockwell Lido on a hot day last summer to do some lengths. It was busy. I kept getting other people's hair, which was floating around the pool, tangled in my hands. It was gross. I'm not sure if that was unusual, or if it's always like that on a hot day. -

Thanks everyone for the great recommendations! I wouldn't normally go for vegan restaurants, but I've been to En Root and really liked it. Fresh and tasty. The Ritzy Cinema in Brixton also sell their food, to eat in their cafe before or after a film (I don't think they sell the whole menu that you'd find in Peckham, but there is a good choice) -
This is such a shame for the bridge. I wonder if anyone saw it fall, and when it was (at night?) Is the walking path through the woods still accessible?

Jeremiah does a great job on our windows and I would highly recommend him. 07947 389406

We live in East Dulwich and often to go Rye Lane. I know people say there are good restaurants near Rye Lane. Does anyone have recommendations for good places for lunch or dinner? We like Manze for pie & mash at lunch. And I've been to Peckham Bazaar in the past, which was excellent. Thanks!

It's useful to see these recommendations for local gardening centres. Wondering if anyone has used the RHS online plant shop, and if you'd recommend that? Currently trying to choose some new plants for our small garden! I got some good euphorbia from Croxted Road the other day. I had asked for them a previous week, and they said they'd put some aside for me when they got some in. They did and gave me a call. It seemed a good service with friendly staff.

Lheda has now been coming for over a year and has been great. She also knows which cleaning products are best to use and recommends products that we need - which have made a big difference.

So Southwark Council own this building? The Belair House website says: The first floor caters for private parties, small weddings and more intimate meetings. Indeed.

New Shops in East Dulwich and Nearby - 2025 Edition
Katherty replied to Joe's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Holland & Barrett seem to be opening news shops in several places. They are opening a big shop on Clapham High Street, where the post office recently closed. Also on Oxford Street. So a big expansion programme perhaps. -
I like the Poundland. I've got loads of stuff there. I like the stationery.

On the original topic - there was more of this on Whateley Road today. Same place but the other side of the road. Could be the same dogwalker as for the other nearby roads? I don't have a dog - but would have thought it's hard for owners not to notice when a dog is doing it in the middle of a pavement?

I have tried to call them a few times this week, but each time it's cut off after a few rings, saying the line is 'busy'.
