  1. Thanks Tara. Someone's going to pop in to take a look later today and make sure that anything of concern is removed. kind regards, Louise
  2. Thanks very much for alerting us to this issue. I've spoken to our parks team and they have informed me that officers have inspected the equipment today and removed the defective rope ladder for safety. Replacement parts have been ordered and we will endeavour to repair the apparatus as soon as possible. Kind regards, Louise Neilan Media Manager, Southwark Council
  3. Hi everyone, The council is currently consulting on activities for children and young people locally, and we'd really appreciate you taking a few minutes to share your views with us via the link below. You can help us make sure that the money we spend goes towards the things children and young people really want and need. Please take a few minutes to fill out our survey, or encourage your children to do so. Closing date: 13 September. https://consultations.southwark.gov.uk/housing-community-services-department-community-engagement-team/play-and-youth-services/consult_view Many thanks, Louise Neilan Southwark Council
  4. Thank you to everyone who has posted about this important subject. As you have gathered, the news from Kings of their plans to withdraw their midwives from the breastfeeding clinics came as a shock to the council as well as to users of the service. We value this service, as we know many of you do too, and we regret Kings? decision to cease their provision. We are now looking at options to ensure that this important service continues across the borough with a minimum of disruption. I will keep you all posted. Cllr Barrie Hargrove Cabinet Member for Public Health, Parks and Leisure

  6. Hi, Southwark Council's electoral registration officer has asked me to get in touch to apologise to you for the confusion caused and clarify what has happened with the 'opting out' option on the electoral registration forms. We have been contacted by several residents about this issue, which has now been resolved. Due to a computer glitch, the residents who indicated that they wished to opt out of the edited register when they confirmed their elector details by telephone and by internet were sent a confirmation letter that indicated that they had not opted out, when they had in fact requested this. As soon as we were aware of this problem we contacted our software suppliers. They were able to rectify the problem, and now all the residents who had requested an opt out have had their records updated. They will be sent another confirmation letter, indicating that they do indeed have the opt out of the edited register correctly recorded. Some of the incorrect data had been passed to four credit reference agencies. We have now contacted them and they have deleted the incorrect data, which had not been used. We have replaced this information with the correct information. We would like to reassure residents that if they had opted out, their details are not held on record by any third parties as a result of this error. Sorry again for the confusion. Kind regards, Louise Neilan Media Manager Southwark Council
  7. I've had a similar problem with my daughter, and my Mum managed to track down some adjustable, elasticated belts that help to keep her trousers up. It's not a perfect solution but it does help. If you shop around you can get them in a few different colours: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Boys-Girls-Childrens-Snake-Belts/dp/B00319TXW8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1316692686&sr=8-1
  8. That would really be sulking on a massive scale. The council should be pleased with all the free publicity they've had for their fireworks display!
  9. The story has made it into today's Telegraph: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/8777688/Councillors-condemned-over-Guy-Fawkes-name-change.html
  10. I went there today for the first time and it didn't seem very clean at all. The ball pool smelt really nasty. I saw the sign on the way out saying they'd improved their cleaning, so assume it must have been really bad before!
  11. Are you sure they've got it wrong? Maybe they're rolling in your unused leave and other bits and pieces into the total. It's a complicated business but I would think employers normally go to the effort of getting it right, rather than overpay!
  12. I hope you weren't one of the people trying to get on a 37 this lunchtime?! By the time we got to Brixton there were 4 buggies (two upright, two collapsed) on the bus, and the driver had to tell a 5th mother she couldn't get on. I don't know if it's bad timing but I've had real trouble with this route lately, having to wait for two or three buses (with 10-20 min waits between each one)before I could get on. Today I just bit the bullet and collapsed the buggy with one hand whilst holding my daughter and three bags in the other! All I can do is wish you luck - you'll probably be fine but I just needed to rant a little ;-)
  13. I'm no expert, but I'd say yes and yes. Definitely wash all new clothes before baby wears them (I think it's in case any germs/dust etc have got into them in transit), and you should avoid biological detergents because of their sensitive skin so it's probably just as easy to non-bio for all your washing - can't think of a downside.
  14. My daughter is nine months old and has just started sleeping through from around 7.30pm til 6.30am. She still wakes up at some point in the night but I just got quite strict at about 8 months (for the first time - I wasn't a Gina Ford fan!) and gave her cuddles or soothing words rather than milk. Now she wakes up for about a minute and goes back to sleep herself. As someone else said, they don't really need the nightime milk when they're eating three meals a day, it's just a comforter. My doctor told me to aim for about 600mls of milk a day split into 3 feeds. I was worried she wasn't getting this much from breastfeeds so in the end I switched to formula and I'm sorry to say I think this is what has mainly contributed to her better sleeping - little love has a full tummy! Obviously this won't be the case for all breastfeeding Mums but if, like me, you're short of milk then it might work. She now has 200ml at 7am/in her breakfast, 200ml at 3pm and 200ml before bed, and also eats up all her food (unless it's lentils!). On the sleeping bags, I think they're great and will keep using them until I can't find them in her size! The best thing is, now she's crawling and standing up, they do go some way to stopping her and reminding her it's bed time ;-)
  15. Hi there, We're looking for a childminder to look after our little girl from October/November when she will be 10/11 months old. Ideally we need someone for Mon/Tues/Wed but we could potentially be flexible. We're torn between moving a bit further out (Beckenham or Crystal Palace) or staying in ED for the next year and ultimately I think it will come down to where we can find the best childcare! If anyone has a vacancy that would suit us, or knows of someone who does, in any of the above locations, please let me know. As everyone who has been in this situation knows, finding someone to look after your precious baby is one the most stressful things ever, and so any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks, Louise
