  1. Compton Arms - there is a memory. My old mate Barry was year below Roger at school - they bonded over the time they spent outside the headteacher's office awaiting punishment for various misdemeanours
  2. St Saviiour's & St Olave's last OFSTED was ten years ago and they were outstanding. I assume it is a good sign if OFSTED haven't been back.

The progress eight score this year was .56 "well above average" Data for Southwark here.

Was it one of your choices?

  3. Angelina, I am not sure St Olave's was a "one-off" - I am guessing plenty of grammar schools doing something like that.

My professional experience is that many schools may encourage some students to move on at end of Year 12 not for league table reasons, but for best wishes of student - a view the student may not always take.

(PS: I was using the worn "culling" somewhat ironically, which I now realise is never a good idea on social media)

  4. OK, in defence of culling and against apple pie and motherhood:

What advice would you give to a student who got U or E grades at end of Year 12 in either AS exams or end of year internal exams. The grades would heavily suggest that the student in unlikely to do very well at the end of Year 13, so surely it would be just as well for that young person, to call it quits with A levels and maybe find a more suitable course or apprenticeship elsewhere?

Genuine question, not trying to stir the pot

  5. I would keep phoning round - schools often have unexpected spaces at this time of year with some students moving overseas or going into independent sector,

Southwark has some of the best state schools in the country, so she should be able to find something.

You don't say where you live, but don't forget to look at schools outside local area that are on good bus or train routes, so you can go in plenty of directions
