  7. A friend of mine (not in ED) had her house broken into. There is a 50 second delay before their burgaler alarm goes off. In those 50 seconds the robbers managed to go from the backdoor to her bedroom and steal gold jewellery that is kept in a drawer. Nothing else (plasma tv, camera, camcorder, Xbox, car keys) was touched. It had to be an 'inside job' - a divorce would be too expensive, it would be a bit harsh to blame her 2 year old, so that just left the cleaner, whom she sacked.

Its all boring. Then why are you reading/commenting on a thread about Olympic tickets??! It's very simple - if you are interested in certain events/Olympics then you apply for tickets. If you find it boring then you don't. My comment that we are lucky is based on the fact that millions who wanted tickets didn't get any. We managed to get tickets to something we enjoy watching. Do you go to every thread and make comments on whether its boring or not? 'Football's boring...', 'primary schools are boring...' 'cycling is boring...' Your post is very odd.

  10. Nowhere man - the Beatles
  11. We got the men's 4x100m final (along with various other track and field finals/medal ceremonies that are being held during the same session) and the women's gymnastics team final!!!! Hopefully Usain Bolt won't get injured and Jamaica won't drop the baton before the final! We are very very lucky.
  12. Love foolosophy - Jamiraquoi (however it's spelt)
  13. Supergolden, you're not a bad mother and if you are then so am I! DD used to sleep in the Moses basket with the head end propped up so we tried the same when she moved into the cot. However, she ended up sliding to the bottom, so we lay her on one of our pillows in the cot for a few nights and she was absolutely fine. She now sleeps completely flat without a pillow. I suppose it depends on how old your baby is - DD was about 4months but prob wouldn't recommend it for a very young baby. If in doubt you can always have a chat with FSID (foundation for the studdy of infant deaths)
  14. I'm a fool to want you - Billie Holliday
  15. Yes, I do bend the rules in dire situations and step on one or two of the 3 drains. Sometimes I have to do a hop skip and a jump to avoid walking on the third drain!
  16. My baby just cares for me - Nina Simone
  17. Can't walk across 3 drains. Sometimes this involves obstinantly sticking to one side of the pavement and forcing the oncoming person to step quickly aside - this can cause brief havoc on crowded/busy pavements e.g. Oxford St. Very sorry to anyone who has been subjected to this but I just can't do it. If I am with the buggy on the narrow pavements of ED I let the buggy go over the drains whilst I shuffle round them - I figure my daughter has not superstitions (as yet) and is therefore, immune from potential bad luck. Also have to salute and spit if I seen a solitary magpie and say 'hello Mr/Mrs Magpie, how are you and your family' I try and do this very subtly when out and about as i) spitting in public is abhorent ii)it is embarassing to be seen saluting and talking to a magpie.
  18. It would be interesting to know how custody would be decided in the case of a civil partnership ending in divorce. Clearly, here there would be either two 'mums' or no 'mums'. I don't know if this problem has yet been encountered in the UK, as civil partnerships are relatively new.
  19. Ladywotlunches - I accept your sentiment that strikes shouldn't put others at risk - I am a parent, a potential patient, potential fire victim, potential crime victim etc and am so dependent on these services. I want people to continue to want to enter these professions and work with great passion. The salaries of the vast majority of these workers is not reflective of the importance of their work or the level of training that they undergo. They would (should) have been aware of this when they chose their profession. However, changing the pension is changing the terms and conditions under which they were employed and therefore, should be discussed with the unions not just rushed through. Reducing the public sector pensions is a knee jerk reaction and the bigger picture has not been considered. Low morale will not entice people into the profession nor keep them in it. A decrease in women's state pension is not analagous.

  24. 'teachers, like the medical profession and emergency services, should not strike as a matter of professional pride' The right to strike should be apply to all including those that do some of the most important jobs in society. These workers have as much right to look after their futures as anyone else.
