  1. i wonder if its a hormonal thing? my hands were in a terrible state after i gave birth
  2. R&A I can understand your concerns regarding the lack of breast feeding support at kings after giving birth. I gave birth in within another health trust I asked for advice on the ward the ward and no one came round to help. My daughter was actually latching on well whilst i was in hospital, it was when i got home i really got home the problems started. my daughter was really distressed at night and i didnt realise that she was just hungry. it was only till a community midwife came round and help me feed did things get better. i think the system is quick enough to throw out leaflets and books on breast feeding and its benefits when mums actually needs PRACTICAL help and guidance, which there appears to be a lack of? Do kings not offer breast feeding classes for mums to be? I attended an NHS one and i did find it to be very useful.
  3. I know this has already been touched on in the ED forum but has anyone had any positive experiences at kings? I wonder how many patients are allocated to one midwife? vangough i was pretty upset by some aspects of my labour i cant believe you were left on your own when you were pushing. I asked (actually make that shouted :-$) at my husband to get help as i was so frightened and the midwife had a go at him and told him to go back in the room ! the second midwife who came on duty and delievered my little girl was absolutley wonderful, it really was like chalk and cheese.
  4. I think many women when pregnant the first time round think "just go with the flow" and this is how the NHS is. When I saw a wonderful midwife from the east team who came to see me after the birth, I explained id do things ALOT differently if we decide to go for a second....she said to me i should consider a home birth in the future. I ended up having all the pain relief going when I had my daughter, looking back now the midwife at the hospital kept walking out the room and leaving me on my own, the pain frightened me and there was very little reassurance. had i been supported more i dont think i would have needed the drugs!. Unfortuantly with the NHS you have to stamp your feet sometimes to get things moving.
  5. I have just registered myself and our newborm at DMC, can anyone recommened a gp for our 6 weeks post check up? my Health visitor came from townley road clinic...not sure why DMC dont have health visitors attached ?
  6. there must be a reason as to why the midwives do not advise bathing in saline, i had second degree tears, and was advised just to shower as normal. was concerned mine has become infected but they have turned out fine(been nearly 3 weeks). i was given dissovable stitches
  7. my baby is 2 and 1/2 weeks old. noticed some slight spotting from her belly button mentioned this to the health visitor who said it was "over granulating". midwives advised to leave the stump, health visitor advising to clean it with salty water ? im concerned this will sting....has anyone got any tips?
  8. ive just joined Dulwich medical centre....registered my daughter there aswell the other day not sure what its like though? seemed to be a few people complaining about waiting times when i was filling in paper work?
  9. had my baby last thursday.....woke up on the ward friday morning to see it was like a picture postcard....had to take it easy on the drive back home. I agree with the relative situation...ive had a relative ask me if im ignoring the phone when ive had a screaming baby awake from 2am-5am!?!? any possibility im trying to grab 5 mins shut eye?? yes weve had people over and muggins is always left clearing up tea cups etc....thankgod for dishwashers though...
  10. thanks molly , the cardigans your mum knitted fit amelia a treat as she is such a dinky baby. everyones been commenting on how beautiful they are xx
  11. Hi guys....::::Update::::: Baby Amelia was born thursday morning. due on the 18th and she arrived on the 17th (what a good little girl!). went into denial about contractions on tuesday night, convinced myself they were braxton hicks went from being regular to irregular and then "pop" waters went.... Been referred from PRUH at bromley to the community midwife team at kings, got to chase them up on monday. anyone had any experiences with them?
  12. Hi thanks for the responses all helpful......wrapped all the christmas pressies up today so all organised there hubby just needs to dish them out if im not able to..... woman of dulwich: so did you end up being induced or did it come on naturally? spoke to my mum, my brother and I both arrived after due dates. as my mum and I are VERY similar im expecting to go over with this one i think. already worked out how to switch our landlines on the mute setting (hehe!) im trying to just keep on top of the household chores, had to show hubby how to use the washing machine again yesterday bless him x thanks littleEDfamily...Its like you say its a fine line really. id rather hang on at home as long as possible. If you arrive too late they will probably say your are too late for more pain control?
  13. Im 39 weeks too now. I can definatly see myself going overdue! get the occassional tightening but thats it. im happy right now but quite uncomfortable..... I know of friends who have been induced, and from what i can gather the pain is alot more intense as you dont have the chance to build up tolerance? the only reason they should turn you away from the ward is if your not in established labour, in all fairness they would have mums taking up beds who didnt need to be there?
