  1. The food is so good there, and the wine list, that quite frankly I don't care what it's called. Clearly lots of people do though, and that's fine. It's a free country and everyone is entitled to an opinion. I urge people to get down there and give it a go. Aside from the fact that there really isn't anywhere else like it on Lordship Lane, the meals are prepared with real care and attention, the plates look stunning and taste seriously, seriously good(take a bow Smoke and Salt guys), and anywhere that can get me to drink and actually enjoy a rose wine gets a thumbs up from me! Best of luck everyone at Platform 1. I will certainly be back.
  2. Agreed. I went when it was Pussey Liquor and had the best brunch I've had in a long time, in what must be the biggest garden on Lordship Lane. And I shall be revisiting Platform1 for dinner! Can't wait. I hope others do the same.
  3. Jeremy, They do indeed - and I doubt Peckham Rye is the only place in London that gets this. I certainly don't expect or want people visiting (and reviewing) the area to ignore the not-so-salubrious bits. I just feel it's a lazy, default starting point for lots of what I read, and I wish I could read something a bit more imaginative. Most importantly though, they gave the Begging Bowl the thumbs up. Which I think it deserves; there have undoubtedly been teething problems, but the food is delicious.
  4. Good to see the restaurant get a positive review in the Standard. Off on a slight tangent here, but when will writers reviewing restaurants/bars etc in Peckham find a more original and less cliched context to their piece than 'I trekked all the way down to deep dark Peckham for this, it's good compared to all the other cr*p around there'. The same thing has happened when reviews have been written for Ganapati, Frank's Cafe and others. Don't get me wrong - I'm not blind to Peckham's stereotyped image in other parts of London, and some of it is justified (can't deny the abundance of chicken outlets). But it now comes across to me as lazy journalism when the same old "who'd have thought - something good in Peckham?!" subtext pervades every article written about something in the area. Let's hope for some more originality in future reviews.
  5. Does anyone know if they accept payment by card, or is it cash only?
  6. I only cycle a short section of that road, but for what it's worth, the new surface is very welcome indeed. As for the parking only on one side, and how that affects traffic lanes/room for cyclists, the simple fact is that it is not a wide road. Two lanes of traffic, lots of which is buses, plus parking - that's never going to be a particularly nice place for cyclists to be. My main concern has already been mentioned above, and that is the cars going up the hill away from the Peckham end who now see clear road and just put their foot down. It's happening already, I've seen it. Those calming devices dont' seem to pose much of an obstacle. Agree with DJKQ - zebra crossings make most sense. Those new crossings are not good enough.
  7. Pez - are they actually putting double yellow lines on both sides all the way up the Nunhead side of Peckham Rye??
  8. I've seen the new bit of pavement created for that crossing on Peckham Rye clattered twice by two cars who didn't see it. Both suffered burst tyres. That road is poorly lit at night but one of them was definitely doing a fair bit more than 30.
  9. Just seen the new double deckers in use... man I will not miss the bendy buses!
  10. Excellent. The sooner the bendy buses are gone from that route, the better.
  11. Nothing more to add to what is above - just another voice in support. Route is fantastic, service is a running joke amongst everyone I know who uses it.
  12. Either after or instead of the Vale, I'd add Hoopers. The question then is whether you want to take it to Bellenden area and add the Gowlett and Victoria. Up to you. Enjoy!
  13. They're still at it. Just had two men with Talk Talk badges on their belts babbling on about free broadband. We're in Peckham Rye. Nothing they said made any sense, other than they come in 'to write somme stuff down'. They were politely told to leave.
  14. Not sure if it still is, but during December and January the 8.16am train to L Bridge from Peckham Rye (so I guess 8.13ish from ED) was consistently 10/15 minutes late. Same morning, same train, late by the same time - what's more, trains either side were on time.
