  1. Doesnt route 484 already connect East Dulwich to the new East London LIne at Brockley?? Wouldnt that be a cheaper option to enhance frequencies - as I cannot think where on earth the 63 would then terminate; Brockley Rise is already full with the various buses that terminate there!! This would also then connect onward to Lewisham station and all the other services that go from there! And who would be paying for the thousands of extra bus miles run every year on that route - the buses already in London cost us ?600m a year to subsidise........ ?600m !!
  2. This isnt exactly correct. London Overground Rail Operations Limited is a company owned by MTR (Hong Kong Metro operators) and DB (Germany Railways, also owners by EWS Freigt company in the UK and Chiltern Railways). LOROLs contract is managed by TfL. This is much the same as the operatots of Southern which is operated by GoVia. This company Keolis (broadly party of SNCF) and the British Bus operator Go Ahead. Many rail comapnies are like this. Virgin Trains is 51% Virgin and 49 Stagecoach. Other national rail services are managed by DfT; although others are devolved too - Merseyrail, Scotrail, etc Also because LOROLs network interacts with only a few other services - making planing easier. A fear would exist that if TfL controlled all London area based services. these would squeeze off longer distance services from outside the GLA area - to the detriment of those places and to London. Giving TfL control of these services would mean the Mayor controlling transport deep into sussex - not a pleasant thought for them!! Also it worth remembering that Denmark Hill station is about to get a significant amount of money spent on it to improve access.
  3. Sorry but Pidgeon is just plain WRONG. Their are national rail fares, Undeground fares and bus fares on PAYG. Thus if you get a trip from a Zone 5 National Rail station into central London you are charged the same wherever you are regardless of the operator........although it is true to same that difference will still exist between NR and LUL fares. Significantly simplified - but some paper fares are being withdrawn and for some off peak fares will be more expensive than today ..........all to make it simpler .........
  4. Grafitti at Peckham Rye Station Barry For several weeks now their has been graffiti at the Denmark Hill end of platform 4 and also Nunhead end of platform 3. Its not a big thing - but it hasnt been removed. Can it be? D
  5. I am not sure how easy it would be to rebuild platforms 17+ at London Bridge - but surely the key issue that these would need to be rebuilt and that would cause disruption and the need to change the timetable From what I have read part of the reason for stopping the South London Line to London Bridge is that London Bridge is planned to be rebuilt in 2012 for Thameslink (I think that is right??) If i read the network rail stuff correctly wasnt it proposed to run the South London Line service toward Nunhead instead?? So that link would have been lost whatever whilst London Bridge is rebuilt .........It would be impossible to rebuild the station with no disruption to services wouldnt it? Anyway Peckham Rye and East Dulwich retains train to London Bridge (doesnt it) under the plans? I guess we also need to think about money and where the money would come from.........
  6. Can someone explain to me the planned train service at peak times and off peak times from Peckham Rye in 2012 once the planned East London Line extenion to Clapham Junction opens. It seems quite confusing and not all the posts here seem to agree with what is going to happen!! From what I can work out - and I might be being a herectic by saying this - but does not the 4 east london line trains per hour each way replace 2 Southern trains? And for me going to Canary Wharf or sometimes Bond Stret - it'll be far easier and quicker via Canada Water and the jubilee line........is that correct?
  7. Ticket Gates at Peckham Rye Barry Well done on the ticket gates and new info boards at Peckham Rye station - station is starting to look really good - and importantly for you I bet you are getting more people paying and earning more money (always welcome in a recession!) Are there any other plans for improvements at Peckham Rye? Some bits could do with a good clean!! However, All starting to make the place feel a little more loved and little more welcoming and safe. Re the gates - is it possible for the staffing hours of these gates to be altered and made a bit more random It is now becoming pretty well known when the gates are usually operational ( I have worked them out and sure as hell those not paying have). So is it possible to have them staffed later in the evening some days, perhaps saturdays and sundays too..... And another ticket machine ........? Oh and one final thing why does it still have the Connex sign outside the station on the main road under the BR sign .....always wondered why that was never removed!! Cheers
