Oh, I'm sure they spent lots on Dyson fans, but saying that the money would 'pay for 65 nurses' is the bollocksy bit. And sadly, it's not just the Sun wot does it. Even the broadsheets' use of stats is rather dubious sometimes.

The quote in the Sun was "The ?1.4million spent in total on Dyson gear over the past five years would pay for 65 nurses." Not defending the purchasing, but I hate statistical stupidity like that. That sentence is just complete and utter bollocks.

What Trump did was convince working class America that he was their saviour. And unless the Democrats start pulling their finger out to win them back, we will be in serious danger of a second term for Trump.

I'd want to know if my drinking water was coming out of the attic tank. Ew. Turn the supply off from the tank and see what stops working.

  9. A theatre in America re-enacted the Trump/Clinton debates, but with the gender roles reversed. Interesting... https://www.nyu.edu/about/news-publications/news/2017/march/trump-clinton-debates-gender-reversal.html

  11. Alan Medic Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Loz, the next release of tickets for HP is in > April according to their official website. In April, but for mid next year. I tried in that last one, last month. I messed up and was 2 minutes late for the official start and was about 4 billionth in the queue...
  12. Any of these working for you, adonirum??
  13. If you want a very silly, but very funny show, try The Play That Goes Wrong. Same people who did that Peter Pan spoof thing on the Beeb over Christmas. Doubly funny if you've ever been involved in amateur theatre. You won't get tickets for Harry Potter. Sold out until mid-2018.

Some actually quite interesting articles, mixed in with the really-quite-disturbingly unhinged. "The effects of Smart Meters on human blood cells" was a doozy. And any site that links, wit a straight face, to a magazine called "What Doctors Don't Tell" you is just not serious.
  15. Louisa Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I couldn't and wouldn't waste a nice bottle of > vino on a bog standard bolognese sauce. What a total insult. Chefs will tell you never to cook with any wine you wouldn't happily drink. Fortunately, I'll happily drink most anything.
  16. You have to ask why they are so keen on smart meters - and it's not so you can see how much you are using. The main issue is that, sooner or later, energy prices will change to reflect peak/non-peak usage. So, having your heating on between 7 and 9 in the evening will be far more expensive than, say during a weekday afternoon. Will we see the return of Economy 7 style storage heaters? Storage batteries for electricity? And I'm betting we'll see a case involving an energy worker and a gang of burglars...

You could also avoid being constantly harassed for said dosh if you just email the White House directly: [email protected] Though I understand he spends more time on Twitter, so you may have more luck there.
  19. Plug-in diffusers for cats? The world has gone mad.
  20. You have to laugh at Amnesty. Not 'here's the White House email address - go get 'em', but 'email them via our website (oh, and gives us your mobile while you're at it) so we can hound you for money for the next 200 years or so'. Never one to miss a fundraising opportunity.

That's actually called the Peter Principle: "People rise to their own level of incompetence". In other words, people who can do their job well get promoted. So, you will keep getting promoted until you can't do your job very well.

Beware of the difference between turnover and profit. Rents may be high, but average yields in London are pretty low.
  25. Ah, the Law of Unintended Consequences rears its head again. "Let's clamp down on landlords!" Some few months later: "Waddaya mean there's a massive shortage of rental properties?"
