And this is how downright stupid the whole situation has descended to. Hamas refuses flotilla aid

Agreed. I often nip up the path to check trains then have to nip back to swipe in. That in turn causes a few people to break into a sprint as they think I have just got off a train when they see me coming down the path...! Also, Barry, more shelter would be nice. On rainy days it gets pretty crowded under there.

IV, I personally do not believe any eyewitness accounts from either side. Most of them are entirely fictitious. Both sides have impressive media massaging teams.

Try reading that sentence out loud without passing out half way through.

Its time to man up. > His government is israels chief supporter and > sponsor, after all. Over and above the question of whether the IDF should be there or not (and I'm fairly sure the answer is that they shouldn't), if I am armed with a paintball gun and a revolver and a bunch of people are smacking me with iron bars/wooden clubs/whatever, I know which one I will be reaching for. I can see the right and wrong of both sides of the Israel/Palestinian argument. Israel needs to recognise Palestine's right to exist as a country and Palestine and surrounding countries need to recognise Israel's right to exist as a country. Both need to sit down around a table and negotiate; but neither side really want to. I think the world should be encouraging both sides to find a solution - taking sides is only making the situation worse. Too many people are using the Palestinians to further other causes. Personally, I think Gaza should be declared a UN enclave with the appropriate peacekeeping troops until a solution is found. Demilitarise and disarm the area completely and get the necessary aid in. Then sort out the politics.

Truth is the first casualty of war, and you can bet both sides will be telling massive porkies about this one. I'm waiting for more footage from both sides so I can try and piece things together myself, as any 'eyewitness' accounts will be next to useless.

Uninstall and reinstall Reader would be my first move. Can you post the message verbatim?

Are you a victim of domestic violence or know someone who may be.
Loz replied to BARA's topic in The Lounge
Well done in not making the normal mistake of making this a gendered issue. It's good to see that all victims of domestic violence are covered by this event. BARA - you could probably cut and paste that flyer in and save people the hassle of downloading and opening a word doc. -
I learnt something as well - zetta and yotta are derived from 'septo' and 'octo' repectively, but mangled a little to make the symbol unique (S being used for other things like 'second' and O would get confused with zero). I always wondered why zetta and yotta weren't in easy-to-remember alphabetical order. Now I know!

Zettabyte hasn't recently been invented (it dates from the 90's), exabyte slips in between petabyte and zettabyte and zettabyte is not the largest unit of digital measurement. Digital measurements are SI units and so follow their naming standard. The list is kilobyte, megabyte, gigabyte, terabyte, petabyte, exabyte, zettabyte and yottabyte.

matthew123 - whilst Laws did something wrong, what Danny Alexander did doesn't seem wrong to me. CGT laws give you three years to sell a residence that has been your main home. I think the fact that no one else has picked up on the Danny Alexander story probably indicates it's a lame duck story that the Telegraph has tried to pump up.

Whilst the Telegraph scored with the Laws story, today's 'politician legally sells house' story is a bit like the mid election Clegg story silliness.

He he. That would result in the biggest punch-ups ever in the 18 to 25 bracket as everyone in a shared rental house fights over who gets the title deeds... -
I tbink what vinceayre means is that some people who previously traded in shares switched to instead betting on the spread betting market on those same shares. Same effect, but no stamp duty or capital gains to be paid. How is that relevant? Erm, dunno. (?)

Personally, I like HPs. I've had a couple of bad experiences with Dells. And jaybee82, you can say what you like about Sony Vaio's, but I've never heard them described as 'cheap'. You have to pay for all that shinyness, you know!

I think DJKQ is referring to the EMA Scheme, which gives eligible students ?30 a week.

Boo!! I did the Wombling Free joke back in January. B) (I didn't nick it, but I doubt I was the first).

Having bought my tuppence ha'penny's worth to a logical conclusion I'm staying out of the discussion. But I have to say ... and You've some good points, Huguenot, but by 'eck you do like your hyperbole, don't you. -
** Spoilers, Bonniebird - so look away now! ** As far as I can work out, the island was real. The exchange between Hurley and Linus at the end ("You were a great number two" - "You were a great number one") suggested to me that life on the island went on. The series was therefore Jack's life on the island, so when he died, the series ended. The parallel storyline that popped up over the last two seasons was, on the other hand, some sort of limbo. The 'there is no now' comment meant that their deaths in real life bore no resemblance to the time in limboville. Desmond was some sort of angel character who's job it was to get everyone to realise they'd popped their clogs and assemble everyone at the church. And I can't believe I didn't notice the 'Christian Shepherd' reference at any time over the six years!

So DJKQ is going for the 'stick a hold on prices and wait 40 years' approach. ... and Brendan is going for the massive drop in house prices. So the choice is 'not really a solution' and 'economic meltdown'. Either way, there is no hope for Mr & Mrs ?25K. You can talk theory and hopes and dreams all you like, but in reality we are stuck in our present situation. Sorry guys - there is no solution to this problem. So, to get back to how we started: why on earth would James and the Lib Dems, or Diane Abbott and Labour or the Tories or the Greens or whoever have a policy on this? It is unsolvable. You can tinker around the edges, but we are stuck where we are. You may as well ask them for a policy on preventing rain on bank holiday weekends. Who knows, they'll probably call for a review and maybe even serious debate and reform. -

That is only true if it is a temporary phase. What you are essentially advocating is a long-term lowering of house prices, leaving mortgage holders paying off loans for a home that will never be worth what they paid for it. While in this state, they can never move. So you are stopping (or at least restricting) private landlords. Will taking BTL investors out of the market solve the problem you are discussing? And if it does, would it - as my post would suggest - actually just create a bigger and nastier mess if it bought house prices crashing down? And if it doesn't bring house prices down significantly (of the order of at least 50%), have you actually solved anything? Mr and Mrs ?25K still can't buy a house.
