  1. Brad and Michael recently painted our kitchen, stairs and landing. Brad was incredibly helpful fitting us in to his busy schedule to carry out the work while we were away, and I was happy to leave them with keys. They did a great job, including a little unexpected external work and made the process very easy for us. We are really happy with the finish and so pleased we now have a reliable team to call on for any future decorating needs.
  2. I?d also like to recommend Peter. He tiled the front of a fireplace for me, which another tiler had given up on. Quoted and completed the job quickly, turned up exactly when he said he would, communicated well, did a good job, and cleaned up afterwards. Very pleased with the result. Thanks Peter.
  3. Thank you, love these posts and find your tips very helpful. Can I ask where these service guys are? Anywhere local we can get lawnmowers serviced or anyone who would collect?
  4. There were some threads on the forum about just this a few years ago - not sure the link below will work, but if you search on Lego storage you will see it?s an ongoing issue (and some interesting solutions if still available to buy). http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?29,1012179,1013054#msg-1013054 http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?29,775532,775532#msg-775532
  5. I'd also like to recommend Steve and his team at Sundial. They recently replaced 7 sash windows for us with Slimlite double glazing. We had several quotes before deciding to go with Steve - his quote was competitive and the slimline glazing meant we were able to retain the original look of the Victorian windows while still massively improving noise and heat retention. Luke and his colleague did a fantastic job, stripping back and restoring the sills and boxes, installing the new units, and painting both. We also asked them to paint the external masonry while they were there, and to repair and paint another window, all of which they did well despite working in our south facing rooms during the heatwave. The windows look fantastic and no more rattling. While for us the quality of the work is the most important factor, it was so lovely to come across a team who were pleasant to have in the house. They were always friendly and helpful, planning their work around my need for access to my home office, cleaning up very well every day and storing tools safely out of the way of children. I'm recommending them to everyone!
  6. Not sure re States but coming back I would stay together in the other passport queue. I have been told several times when I've done this in similar circumstances at U.K. Arrivals that I could queue in the British passport queue with my British children (though I was travelling on NZ passport) but occasionally when doing this we were then sent to the back of the other passport queue! Depends who you get I think, so I used to decide depending on level of tiredness and length of queues! So possibly play it safe by being in the right queue for you but definitely queue together.
  7. Had mine repaired and serviced last year by L.Tagg on Rye Lane - 020 7732 1851 - phone first to check when he is there to drop off. Assuming he is still there.
  8. Having similar discussions here with my 14 year old. I think I?ve almost agreed to a semi permanent dye as a compromise. Can anyone suggest what to use? Thinking of doing it at home but have no clue... dark brown hair going red.
  9. I often take parcels into Marks and Son and they are always pleasant. And I think I've only ever bought something there once or twice. Am just glad there's a parcel service nearby, beats the PO queues.
  10. The Childhood Bereavement Network has resources and ideas on their website which you might find helpful. http://www.childhoodbereavementnetwork.org.uk/
  11. I know, I miss them when walking past every day. I heard at the time they were removed (last summer) that it was something to do with lead in the paint, or the railings? and that the maintenance costs to prevent any public health risk was too high for the council.
  12. My daughter had her ears pierced at Topshop Oxford Street, very professional, no issues afterwards, plus we made it into a bit of an event with photo booth and shopping afterwards... Friends have also had good experiences of Beauty Haven on Amott Road which obviously is closer to home.
  13. I'd be interested too, though my children are a little older- our youngest is six. But am actually in NZ for a few weeks, so hopefully next time. Enjoy.
  14. Interested to read this. My daughter has just been referred by our dentist to the Dulwich Orthodontic Centre, and is on the waiting list for an appointment. I know it's early days, but am worried about the waiting time (she has lost all her baby teeth) and not reassured by these posts. We've had fantastic treatment at Kings Dental Hospital for a broken tooth in the past and I would feel much more confident if she was assessed there. Does anyone know if you can ask to be referred to Kings or is it determined by the dentist? I.e. Could I insist on a referral there? I wasn't given any choice at the time. Or am I jumping the gun and just have to wait for initial assessment with DOC to see if it meets the NHS criteria? Thanks
  15. We were there today and I think there was a notice saying it was closed on Wednesday for staff training.
  16. We stayed in an Air BNB apartment in Chessy, one stop 3 minutes on RER train from Disneyland. Obviously didn't have the magic or facilities like pools etc of some of the hotels but meant we could self cater, taking picnics each day and had space to relax after children had gone to bed. As we were a large group (4 children) it was significantly cheaper than any hotel I could find at the time and made it possible. They all loved the parks but great for us to have a quiet base at the end of each day.
  17. Not east dulwich but maybe close enough- the Crooked Well in Camberwell has a room upstairs for private hire, plus great food.
  18. Any tips on how to submit this? Have filled out pdf form on website but can't work out how to save it for emailing? Just end up with a blank form... Thanks
  19. Both of our plates were taken overnight last year. I reported it to police and replaced them at Halfords. The stolen plates were found a few days later on a car left at a 'scene of crime' in Ealing but I couldn't be given any details. The amusing thing was the police pound initially tried to charge me storage fees for the car with my (stolen) plates.
  20. I haven't used it but the locksmith unit in sainsburys dog kennel hill car park now does car keys.
  21. Just to add my overdue recommendation for Andy and Richard. After being let down by several other handymen recommended on the forum, it was a relief to find Andy who came as agreed to quote and then managed to fit in my collection of jobs quickly. They hung 7 ikea cupboard doors, resealed the shower, fixed a broken spindle, attached a piece of trellis to a wall and fitted part of a door handle so it now actually works. Nice guys too.
  22. Would recommend Colour Makes People Happy (I think it's called) in the row of shops opposite ED station, which sells a range of paints that are non-toxic. I used it to paint our stairs when my youngest was a few months old (what was I thinking?!) and it was definitely not smelly or caused any fumes etc. Although not in a bedroom, I had been worried about the fumes wafting through the whole house so it was perfect. Lovely colour range too, and helpful guy who runs it.
  23. Hi I used a combination of nappies with mine - just couldn't stop testing! but my favourites were Blueberries, Bumgenius and Itti Bittis - I do have 3 bumgenius (v3 I assume) which I'm about to put up for sale - PM me if you're interested and I'll dig them out. My baby was quite skinny and they worked well, though I didn't start properly til he was about 3 months old so no experience of them for a very tiny one. I also have some Bamboozle Stretchies and Tots Bots wraps which were great for us too but not all in ones of course.
