Couple of likely lads knocking doors earlier this evening, claiming to be from ‘rehabilitation project’ and trying to sell cleaning kit to raise money to get into a hostel. Not really putting much effort into trying to hide that they casing local houses around the library area. So be it, be aware. But my question is what to do in such circumstances. Should I contact police - who? how? - or the council or something? Would appreciate advice.

Royal Mail Late Deliveries and the price we have to pay
Jamma replied to dulwich1955's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
All you can do is keep emailing Helen Hayes and copy in Royal Mail. It's ridiculous that we have to keep doing that but Royal Mail just refuse to respond to anything else. I spoke with Helen about it recently and she said one thing that gets things moving is if she phones them on Friday and tells them she's coming to visit the depot on Monday, backlogs get attacked over the weekend. But obviously she can't do that all that often given all the other things she has to do as MP. -
Absolutely incredible that this has been allowed to happen. I hope Thames Water will be held to account somehow.

Alternative washing machine repair person - options pls!
Jamma replied to darinmc's topic in Request a Tradesperson
Another recommendation for Leigh at London Washing Machine Repairs. Left a message, he called me straight back and explained what was going on with my machine and what to do before any sort of call out was necessary. Very nice of him and if the problem doesn't clear up then I'll go straight to him to help out. -
Adding my recommendation for Aria. Our kitchen sink just sort of fell off on Sunday night. So it wasn't exactly a plumbing job but I figured Aria would know what to do. Sure enough I called him first thing Monday morning, he came round at lunchtime and arranged for carpenter/handyman Mick to come and do the repair that afternoon so we were good to go again that evening. Reasonably priced but, more importantly, he's quick and effective and a pleasant chap to deal with into the bargain.

Gas leak apparently. Two houses evacuated. The workmen say they hope to finish the drilling soon!
-
Who the heck is drilling at 10.30pm on a Friday night at the Dulwich library end of Lordship Lane?? Assume it’s the same people who started drilling at 6am this morning. Is there a law against that and/or a way to get them to shut up that actually works?

Surely the police can pick him up fairly easily? Known to some as 'Fred the window cleaner'. Shouted some very horrible abuse at me and my son as we walked home evening of July 12 then scarpered when a neighbour emerged with their dogs and started shouting back at him! I've seen him give the same sort of abuse at other people before. If he sees a parent with a child he tends to shout at them that they are a paedophile. He also does a thing where he pretends to be on the phone while talking to/being rude to women walking past. It's not OK. He clearly has some issues and needs help. But if he's now physically attacking people then it clearly has to stop. I'll email the Safer Neighbourhoods team now and suggest others do the same. (not sure why the police are holding a meeting outside Goodrich school on July 25 when it'll be shut?!)

Hi, can anyone recommend a local business to supply and fit a new garage door? Ideally reliable and reasonably priced! Thanks.

Hi, I'm looking for a recommendation for someone who can re-render and paint an external wall. Chancers put it up a few years back and since then the render has just crumbled away. So it needs clearing off and re-doing. Struggling to find someone willing/able to take on the repair. Given experience with the original builder ideally only looking for someone with recommendations on here. Thanks.

Great. Many thanks.

I can?t find any on Lordship Lane and Sainsbury?s aren?t selling them this year. Daughter is isolating so can?t go to a display. Any newsagents or other shops selling small boxes, or even indoor fireworks??
-
Yes. They remodelled/repaired our garden after we had an extension done and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them. Hard working, good communication, pleased with the results.

We?ve basically got a class here! One more and I?ll change the name of the thread to ?Pilates teacher wanted?! This could happen..
-
Maybe we need to start our own! Any teachers want to start a class? There?s three signed up already?
-
Can anyone recommend a good and welcoming (and ideally not too expensive) pilates class in the area for a chap who's jiggered his back and looking to strengthen his core so it doesn't happen again? Thanks!

They generally do take donations gratefully. But you can?t just turn up. Best to call them to arrange.

Where can you take a Passport photo during lockdown?
Jamma replied to aloevera's topic in The Family Room Discussion
We did ours at home on my phone against a plain wall. The online application lets you upload the photo then tells you if it's OK or not before you submit. (Once again showing up that post office check and send business as a right old scam!) -
Boxing clubs for kids - got any recommendations?

Thanks for all these. Will report back what was best! -

Where can I get bracelet watch strap fixed?
Jamma replied to quirky's topic in Request a Tradesperson
I tried Timpson's at Sainsbury's for this the other day. Said they could do it but would have to order in the new strap so couldn't do it there and then,
