Friends of Goodrich

...just to warn you, and to apologise in advance, on Thursday evening (the 3rd) Goodrich Primary School is holding its annual battle of the bands, Goodrich Rocks. It takes place in the playground closest to Dunstans Road and those of you who may have been in the vicinity for previous events will know that it can get quite loud. We do hope that it doesn't disturb you too much. It's a very popular and important date in our school calendar and raises a lot of money for resources. Most importantly, it will all be over by 8pm. Thanks for your patience, and I hope you enjoy the music!

Goodrich's is 2 til 5 on Saturday. We've got Father Christmas in his grotto, a Science Boffins show, games, craft activities and stalls from lots of local businesses and crafts people. Refresh yourselves with mulled wine, irish coffee, or a cup of coffee and a hot dog. Raffle prizes include a family ticket for the Shard, hampers and a portable DVD player. We're very excited; it's going to be our best fair yet!

This is like a mini car boot sale, 50p entry - lots of people selling off unwanted clothes, books, etc. Usually a good source of baby/toddler bits and pieces for good prices. Goodrich community school is holding an open morning for prospective parents on Thursday 29th November. The tour of the school, led by children, will start at 9.20 and will be followed by a meeting with the head teacher, and then an opportunity to chat with parents of children already at the school. Goodrich school has just been awarded 'Good' across the board in their Ofsted inspection. See below for an extract from the Leadership and Management section of the report. I will post the link to the whole report when it is live on the Ofsted website. Well done to all!! 'The headteacher has a clear vision that is shared by other senior managers, the governing body and staff. There has been a marked improvement in the school?s provision and pupil?s progress. Standards have risen substantially at both key stages, especially in reading and writing. Other senior staff also make a very positive contribution to the leadership, especially in supporting the school through a time of instability. The quality of teaching has improved since the previous inspection because of focused professional development, which has resulted in nearly all teachers raising their expectations of pupils. Leaders previously identified that standards of reading and writing needed improvement and have successfully raised standards in these subjects. The governing body has a clear view of the school?s strengths and areas for improvement because its members are actively involved and rigorously challenge the school. They have taken robust action to secure the necessary improvements in the school. The school?s self-evaluation is clearly focused on priorities identified from an effective programme of monitoring and analysis. Consequently, the school has the capacity for sustained improvement.'
