There is one matter when people including you have tried several things and only when they have tried tablets there were positive results or I have met several people who came with the depressions to their GPs and just were offered antidepressants and that's it. Nothing else was offered. If you think this statement is "out of place on a thread where the OP is asking for help on postpartum depression and has chosen medication as a treatment option." this is you opinion, you are entitled to it, but there is no need to be this aggressive if someone else is offering different methods. Someone asked what to do with the depression, I described my experience and how I fixed it, what to do next is up to someone.
  3. Saffron, I have described my own experiences and how I was treated and to what conclusions I came to. I do not condemn people who took medication and do not classify them as the reckless parents and burden to the tax payer. To some people medication helped, to some not. I have considered that for me the pills would not be of much use and I stated the reason why I do think so. P.S. What style of yoga do you do? intexasatthe moment, thanks a lot for understanding. I am as well registered at Forest Hill Rd and I do agree that lots of things depend on practitioner.
  4. mrsS , thank you very much for the kind words. Pommie, hope you'll get well soon.
  5. Thanks. But Victoria is daughter of someone else. Hope as well that they will get it.
  6. For some people pills have worked, for some not. I simply knew there are better ways which worked for me and I took them. I refused to take medicines first of all that I was not sure will it affect the quality of my milk and they will not solve the actual issues, which caused the depression. That's why I demanded counselling and I had CBT, which helped me to cure the actual depression, but not to solve the roots of the problems. For this I have hired private therapist and I should have done it straight away if I knew who to speak to. And why to solve people's issues? There will be less relapses, less people will take medicines and pharmaceutic companies will loose on it. They are first of all concerned with their profits, not our wellbeing. Even if someone gets these pills for free, taxpayer still pays for this. Yoga practice relieved the symptoms, as the pills would do, but who would profit from yoga on the long term? Medical Professionals were very keen to offer me drugs and looked at me like at some idiot, because I refused to take those pills. Only the CBT therapist said it is my choice to take them or not. Otherwise nobody had a basic conscience to say a word about side effects. People just acted as the salesmen. I made research later and was really appalled. How can I be sleepy with 2 children under three years old? What if my child will run on the road and I am slowed down and would not be able to stop her on time? Or feel dizzy and tumble down the stairs while holding the baby in my arms? If anything would happen it would be I to blame, why I haven't read the instruction B4, what I was thinking about when accepting the treatment. I had enough of such situations. So the next time I go for the therapist straight away and won't even speak with GP about it.
  7. I had ordinary depression when my 2nd daughter was just 3 months. What I realised for myself. 1. whenever possible, find yourself a private therapist. On NHS you will wait for centuries and there are only limited numbers of sessions. 2. If you are offered antidepressants, make sure you are aware of the side effects and warnings. It is not compulsory to take them in the first place according to PALS. Shameless drug salesmen in the disguise of the medical professionals knew perfectly well I was mostly on my own with two children under three, but tried to sell me me the tablets at any opportunity. Here are some side effects of Setraline, could anyone tell me can one afford such things in the above circumstances? http://www.nhs.uk/medicine-guides/pages/MedicineSideEffects.aspx?condition=Depression&medicine=sertraline&preparation= Very common: More than 1 in 10 people who take Sertraline hydrochloride difficulty sleeping dry mouth feeling dizzy nausea sexual dysfunction including ejaculation problems or erectile dysfunction. Sexual dysfunction may affect men and women sleepiness tiredness withdrawal symptoms can occur when this medicine is stopped. These include feeling dizzy, paraesthesiae, difficulty sleeping, strange dreams, feeling agitated or anxious, nausea, vomiting, tremors or headaches 3. Research about the diet. Definitely increase on bananas (they increase serotonin), pineapples, poultry, shellfish and green veg. Cut on sweets and alcohol. 4. Exercise when possible, yoga and swimming are great. Keep your back straight, do not hunch your back. It squashes your lungs and heart and aggravates the matters. Hope you will find this useful.
  8. https://fundrazr.com/campaigns/9TKs0 Jevgenija Naumova Triantafillu Victoria will be 5 years old in June 2013. She has neuromuscular disorder which doctors at Great Ormond Street cannot diagnose yet. At the moment it is a mystery to the health professionals but they also said that it is untreatable life-long disorder. It affects her swallowing-liquids get into lungs instead of her tummy=risk of aspiration, her speech- at this age she can make only 4 sounds and needs special communication device to communicate with others, her walking and posture- she gets tired very quickly with a lower back pain, cannot keep up with her friends, falling over constantly due to loosing balance and so on. It also affects Victoria?s hips. She has DDH(developmental dysplasia of the hip) , the muscles do not support her joints properly and DDH got worse in the last 6 months. Victoria is on a waiting list for a surgery to correct the DDH, but it will not change her problem/difficulty walking and running. Victoria is very happy, lively, gentle, always smiling little person. She has been a real warrior through her ordeals. She is very popular in her school and much supported by her peers. But the difficulty she and we as a family face now is mobility. Victoria is very active, we love going outside to explore, travel in all terrains like hiking in the mountains. But being 5 years old she is outgrowing her regular buggies. At our last appointment the doctor proposed for occupational therapist to provide Vicky with a wheelchair. But it will be quite useless to us as it is very limited. I have checked out the buggies for special needs toddlers and for our life style was recommended Kangoo All Terrain Buggy which costs from ?1,939 - ?2,359 Exc. VAT. I have recently spoken with Victoria's OT and they also recommended Theraplay Terrier Trike which apparently costs almost ?800. With Terrier trike Victoria will be able to ride her bike with her sister and friends in a park along them all by herself instead of being pushed around by her mother. It will give her more freedom and independence! That is where the plea to help to fund these equipment is coming. Me, Jevgenija, the mother of Victoria, asking for help. Please help me to raise enough money to give my precious Victoria more freedom, independence and enjoyment of outdoors with a help of special needs buggy and a trike. Very BIG thank you to all of you for taking your time to read and help. It will be very much appreciated by both Victoria and her family.
  9. we had original bee with our two and we loved. But then we started to carry our younger one in the sling and buggy became favored by cat, we sold it. Take a look at the forum, there are often classifieds for Bugaboo and accesories.
  10. if there is an opportunity to have dual citizenship for kids, better to have it.
  11. susyp, unless you have done it already, sign her for the swimming lessons - it strengthens the abdominal muscles.
  12. Buttercup, if there would be any problems with BF, speak to the midwifes or ask to be referred to La Leche League. And the rest is up to you.
  13. There is another method from Georgia - fill the bucket with the warm water and hold the baby up to its chest, so he/she kicks and the movement may release the wind.
