  1. Another recommendation for Andy. He has helped me out, often at very short notice, on a number of occasions now. As others have said, he has always been excellent in his communication, his thoughtfulness and the quality of his work (often going above and beyond the specific items we had agreed), and the reasonableness of his prices. And a great bloke to top it off! Thanks Andy!!
  2. Just adding a further recommendation for Andy - came at short notice and sorted several issues quickly and at reasonable cost. Adey
  3. hi all couldn't find any posts on this. i'm looking for someone local to repair/replace a front garden gate. any recommendations gratefully received. thanks adey
  4. i would second Robbie's endorsement - Steven very kindly spent 20 minutes on the phone effectively giving me free advice (or at least the benefit of his knowledge and experience). this was not only very kind and helpful, but likely saved me some money as I have been able to progress matters myself without the need to instruct a surveyor, which would have cost me money but probably not told me much more than i (now, thanks to Steven) know!
  5. Giulio is an amazing PT. He is very professional and keeps a record of all your sessions. He obviously knows a lot about exercise, fitness and diet. I feel my strength and fitness have improved massively since training with him. He also helped me train when I was pregnant. If you have unpredictable working hours he is fantastic at fitting you in last minute.
  6. Thanks for the warning - there are other ways into the property, so we would be ok, this is just the main vulnerability, but something to be aware of! Got an alarm too.
  7. Hi all Just wondering if anyone had any recommendations for good local (or otherwise) suppliers/installers of collapsible security grilles for doors. The ones I've found online are prohibitively expensive, so just looking for any potential recommended alternatives. Thanks Adey
  8. broken into yesterday late avo/evening. my wife disturbed them. police view is probably a little scrote as looked pretty amateur. not nice for my wife though. expensive pair of headphones only apparent casualty. out of interest, does anyone happen to know where stolen items are sold locally/in the area?... i know it is pretty prevalent in our area and was probably only a matter of time. time to, obviously belatedly, look into security reinforecements! for what it's worth - advice to others - do it before!! thanks adey
  9. i get that rush hours etc. have to be taken into account but working at 3am seems pretty unnecessary and is pretty annoying. surely there are plenty of non-rush hour hours during the day when work could be done with less disruption.
  10. Bit of a long shot but does anyone know of anyone currently providing, or who may be willing to provide, Arabic tuition in or near ED? Ideally I'm looking for lessons in Modern Standard Arabic (Egyptian), maybe an hour or two a week. Any pointers gratefully received. Thanks Adey
  11. matthew, tony and stephen just painted the whole of our 2-bed place. excellent advice from matthew in terms of appropriateness/cost of materials, great quality work, care taken of our home, and great attention to detail. special mention to tony for the quality of his work and determination to make sure we were happy with it, which was really appreciated. highly recommended. will definitely be using matthew again should anything else come up in the future.
  12. evening all i was just wondering if anyone else in the tintagel crescent area is concerned/bothered by all the junk that ends up scattered around the lordship lane end of tintagel crescent? i am sure some of the stuff left outside the charity shop ends up being picked up by people who think they like the look of it, only to decide a few metres down the road they don't and dump it. some of the mess is also no doubt post-pub detritus, especially at weekends. but what is harder to explain is the copious amounts of general, mixed and weird rubbish that appears and is left either by the garage at the end of the road or round the end of the alley behind the indian restaurant. it often looks like it has been deliberately left/stashed on private property (i saw two 1980s portable TVs in dumped in a front garden a while ago...) or just dumped on the street. sometimes it looks like bags of clothes/really random odds and ends destined for the charity shop - in which case i can't understand how they ended up where they are (surely people coming to drop stuff off wouldn't leave it 20m away from the shop, and surely someone picking it up from outside the shop then deciding they didn't want it wouldn't leave it neatly by the garage or the fence by the indian 20m away??). other times it's just rubbish. this weekend there was a sainsbury's bag with, amongst other things, a broken egg shell and a pair of knickers....failed attempt at a niche omelette recipe? this stuff inevitably gets strewn all over the road. maybe people from the nursing accommodation - but they have their own bins? maybe bin men who don't want to take certain stuff? i know there are options about getting flytipping reported and investigated which i will look into (i know this won't apply to items on private property), i was just wondering if anyone had seen anything or had any thoughts about who might be doing this? as you can see from the rant, it's starting to get on my nerves (apologies) and i would really like to catch them doing it! thanks for your time. adey
  13. i read a while ago people were having issues with orange mobile/dongle reception in ED which apparently was due to network infrastructure upgrades resulting from the t-mobile (?) & orange merger. are these issues now resolved? at the moment i have a vodafone dongle thingy which isn't great to be honest but orange have offered me one for ?10 less a month. any thoughts/recent experience welcome. thanks adey
  14. East Dulwich's premier road! but yes, noise from sirens and rubbish from charity shop ending up outside my garage are annoying, but easily outweighed by best location for station/lordship lane/goose green etc.
  15. james not sure if i'm adding this post in the right place, apologies if not. congratulations on re-election. just writing to complain i'm afraid about rubbish collection truck stopping outside my house on tintagel crescent (lordship lane end) at 0450 every thursday morning! not sure if they're collecting rubbish from the back of the restaurant on grove vale but doesn't seem reasonable. thanks adey
  16. what network are you on? is it any good? i'm thinking of getting one as don't need/want a whole sky type package and virgin, who i would've used, seems to only employ chimpanzees. if there's no reception where i live though it's obviously not worth it (north end of lordship lane).
  17. hey also new to the forum and ED. i share your pain - i got my first bike in october last year (brand new) and had it nicked 10 days later after clocking up a monumental 100 miles on the clock. quite distressing. luckily new one is now off the road and secured by a chain that weighs nearly as much as the bike. surprised they'd bother nicking petrol? they're only small tanks? i thought that only happened on farms/during oil crises? little f8ckers. adey
  18. what's the iron and wine album? got all his stuff, is awesome. rated boxer but not so much alligator. bigger sound will make them even better i think. am about to check out mumford & sons and have just got forest fire, the low anthem & the leisure society (only heard the last one so far, which is very good). guess it's strange i like all this stuff as spent the last 10 years listening to hip hop/soul/funk (which i still do, but think the inevitable mellowing from hitting the big 3-0 is probably kicking in). perhaps not the right thread for this, don't know, totally different vibe - but quetzal (super chilled, understated mix of latin/african/hip hop/scratchy old vinyl), paul white & architeq (awesome 'wonky'/chopped up hip hop). different. for what it's worth. adey (EDF newcomer)
