  1. Hi all, Tried joining the existing WI in ED only to find that the waiting list was closed and they were full. I was toying with the idea of starting up a second branch for ED and I was wondering if there were any interested ladies out there??
  2. and as an addendum to my above comment - no consultations were had with the residents of the road prior to the decision being made.
  3. Yes, we did contact the council, and we were told the decision had already been made to implement the restrictions and there was nothing we could do about it. But we are trying to get it changed hence the petition, contact with councilors and Tessa Jowell and my putting it up on the forum.
  4. lol - we already have speed humps! and they appear to be no deterrent. We would like the council to allow parking all down one side of the road - preferably the side the houses are on. And since my last post we have discovered that firebrigade access wasn't the problem - opening the side compartments on a fire engine was - however I believe that fire engines were redesigned so that the compartments were high enough to open over the top of a cars bonnet - but I may be wrong on this. Because if a fire engine couldn't get down the road the it stands to reason that the refuse lorries wouldn't be able to and that has never been a problem. Our biggest bone of contention has been the fact that there was no consultation with residents before these restrictions were implemented. I wonder how all of you would feel if you woke up one morning to find double yellow lines outside your house and 40% less parking than there was the night before - when parking was always a bit of an issue because of peeps using the road as a car park for the leisure centre?
  5. Yes they do - to avoid the Adys Road lights and the roundabout - turn right into ED Road and vroom!!! all the way down to Grove Vale!
  6. Well you wouldn't have done prior to the new parking restrictions! And it's not just me who's objecting so are other residents who live in this road, who were present at the meeting with the councilors.
  7. Well, we now have only 40% of the parking we had before, they have staggered the parking and the road is now a slalom ratrun for peeps wanting to skip going round the roundabout and if you're unlucky enough to have to park your car in a bay on the opposite side of the road to your house, you take your life in your hands as you risk being mown down! And no - I didn't only write to my MP because I'm unhappy about being unable to park outside my house!
  8. Hi anyone else out there appalled by the awful mess the council have made of the new parking restrictions in ED Road? We are in the process of getting a petition together to get the parking changed if not reversed. If you are interested in signing please let me know. We have also approached Tessa Jowell to see if she can help, and we have also had discussions with 2 of the South Camberwell ward Councillors - who have both agreed that there is a problem. Looking forward to hearing from you.
  9. I am dismayed with the new parking restrictions that the council are bringing in along East Dulwich Road, the side which runs behind Goosegreen. Whilst I appreciate that the firebrigade need to have access to houses along this stretch of road, I can't for the life of me understand why they can't just use the access gates and drive along the green in the case of an emergency1 It's good enough for the emergency helicopters to do that- why not the fire service??? Instead the council are taking away a lot of the parking available down this section of the road in order for a fire engine to be able to access the houses. I have lived in this road since 1987 and in all that time I have only known one fire engine to need access! So it's not like the fire service would be ruining Goosegreen by running drag races up and down it every week! When I phoned the council department concerned I was told that the decision to implement this had already been taken and as a resident if I could not find a parking space it wasn't their concern if we have to have a half mile walk to get home if and when we manage to find a parking space in the surrounding streets. There is little enough parking available in the area as it is - surely common sense should prevail??? Could you please look into this? Thank you Sue Jarvie
  10. Hi everyone, I came home from shopping the other day and noticed that sheets of paper had been attached to the lampposts in East Dulwich Road - the slip road side that runs behind Goose Green. Upon further inspection of one of these sheets it appears that Southwark Council are changing the parking allocations in this part of East Dulwich Road. As a resident here I was a bit concerned as parking is at a premium down this part ED Road at the best times so I rang the contact number given on the paper. It would appear that they are now going to implement staggered parking bays down each side of this part of ED Road and double yellow lines in between the bays. Oh boy! This is going to cause some serious problems for us residents and guess what they don't care - just so long as a fire engine can get down the road, the rest of us have to suck it! Now whilst I appreciate that fire engines have to have access - why don't they just use the double gates and drive down the green if they need to reach a property?? Or is this idea just to radical and commonsensical?? I was told my the council that the decision to implement this has been made and basically we can do nothing about it - so if you're unlucky enough to live in the middle section of ED Road and can't find a parking space you have at least a half mile walk to get home - lucky you! Any comments anyone?
