  1. I was just wondering if anyone else had experienced flooding within their house and or cellar since Southwark had completed their receint flood prevention works on Underhill and St Dunstans? We have lived in our property for 6 years and never had any problems with our cellar until now. Now we have 12 inches of water and it's still rising. It is not a plumbing issue. Our insurance company have said that we are not covered as it is caused by the rise in water table. Please let me know if you have experienced any flooding around Upland Road too. We are trying to get in touch with the right person at Southwark council. Thank you!
  2. Umm it is a real shame when you spend all day having a children's party for the little ones, hand out over ?50 of sweets to lovely kids trick or treating who have made an effort dressing up and are really enjoying themselves. Only to have some nasty scumbags smash and break your stain glass window with such force that they break the leading and follow through with eggs just because I had to taken an hour to put 4 children to bed and had turned the lights out. Really.... Just horrid!
  3. Iceland, co-op and londis expensive? Not to mention all the none chain stores.... and you want a balanced highstreet?
  4. Hi H, I have had two babies with sevear reflux now, one the silent.... I am going to stop breathing in my sleep kind when not arching my back and screaming in agony, the other making the exorcist look like something that could be on a childrens channel. I have tried everything... And I mean everything and my suggestions to you would be.... 1. Make sure your baby never lies flat, this allows the stomach acids to freely run up and down causing terrible pain. Prop baby up in the pram with a rolled up blanket. A cot can be propped up one end with tins (small to start with the increase to full 400g until baby is comfortable. 2. Visit the gp but only in order to ask to see a paediatrician, gps are usually to worried about precribing what your baby most likely will need. Suggestions ranatidine and domperidone 3. If you are breastfeeding try cutting out all dairy products and caffeine (no mean feat I know but if it helps it is worth it) you will need to do this for about 10 days to notice if their is a difference. If baby is on formula try sma wy soy, if it works you can even get this on prescription. Note: do not let any crazy gps suggest allergy testing it is cruel when you cannot explain to baby what is going on wait until baby is about 3 (by then any food sensitivities have usually disappeared) 4.invest in a vibrating bouncy chair, they find this very soothing (in the meantime place baby on the end of your knee facing you and gently jig (not bounce so more like a vibrating moment easiest if just done from your toes and ball of your foot)) 5. Once baby if four months you can start weaning slowly with things like plum cereal (suitable as suited from 4 months) and farleys gluten free rusks, it is the weight of such foods that really seem to help keep babies milk down and restrict the heartburn. Good luck, please feel free to call or message me at anytime. It is really difficult seeing your child in pain and not knowing what to do. You are a fabulous mother. If I can help in any way please let me know. Kind regards, J.
  5. I think you will find it was M&S who first computed to organic food not Iceland. Iceland does a good trade I see no reason why it could not work well alongside a waitrose or M&S they do not even see each other as competition so why should we? Seriously though if this is a potential idea for the police station or any other site for that matter anything is better than a deralict site unusued by any legal business! Thinking about it that site would be too small for waitrose and too big for a simply food and the location is too far up.... What other site could it be?
  6. I think a small M&S would be extremely beneficial to the residents of East Dulwich. From my original port on the "should we close down Iceland and open a Waitrose" thread I noticed from the responses that many people in the area stated that they do not have time to cook so their ready meals, fresh pastas and pesto would be doing many people a favour no? I do agree with many of the comments that M&s has far too much sugar in and on everything but one could go crazy any buy some say carrots, new potatoes, red peppers, onions, garlic and I don't know maybe a steak or fresh fish and.... Chop all veg to roughly same size chunks, place in a roasting tin 190 for 35/40 mins, while that is in poor some nice vino and drink it while responding to all relevant messages on the forum and pan fry steak or fish. Serve and think about time saved buying all this in one place.... Whilst troffing down some lovely sugar laden cheesecake or wonder if you should have spent the time supporting all the local grocers, fish mongers/ butchers. Vow to maybe do both! M&s could draw more people to use the local highstreet rather than driving up the hill to sainsburys or further afield to beckenham. Where I grew up we have a waitrose, 2 butchers 1 fishmonger and 2 grocers all living in perfect harmony along with a farmers market. It is NOT people shopping at M&S that close local shops down it is people not shopping at the local shops surely we have the population density to keep everyone happy no? Note: did anyone watch save our highstreet I believe it tried to prove this point!
  7. I do not think a waitrose or M&S would be such a terrible thing, have any of you actually looked at the price comparisons in these stores vs Iceland. It may surprise you to find their is not much dofference! They both have value ranges.... Now calm down at this suggestion.... Take a look at the ingredients. I would rather buy fresh organic wholesome foods and cook meals from scratch especially as I have 3 young boys to feed and my husband. My roast chicken yes ?10 (for organi free range which seems expensive) roughly from borough Market or waitrose makes a roast dinner for us all, sandwiches for lunch, chicken soup and chicken curry. Same goes for roast lamb and beef. I shop for what is on offer and plan my menu round that, not ready made "meals" crisps and biscuits (check out delia for cheaper home made healthier alternatives to pre packaged). It is not about snobbery it is about quality, most of the food in Iceland is shocking, the co-op is a few doors down which offers a better range, but if you want cheaper better food, buy better and do not waste a thing! I may be shot down for these comments but I grew up on the fens we were taught to cook well eat well and know what you are eating, and before you jump on me about time, most meals take the same time to cook and or prepare than an Iceland meal or buffet takes to heat up. Saissahe rolls take 5 mins to make and 15 to cook make your own and taste test you will never go back.... Yummy!
  8. I have twins and a toddler, now even if I have the twine on their own who are now coming up to 12 months old how on earth would itbe possible to hold them both and fold up a pram? My twin pram normally goes in the space which is reserved for wheelchairs. Now I have actually gotten off the bus with the pram when we came to a stop with a young man in a wheelchair who wanted to get on and adjust waited for the next bus and I would be happy to do this every time. Seriously though should I get off to let more people stand in that that same space and then what walk for an hour to get home. Began forbid us mothers should use public transport. Last time I travelled on the bus I was told to get a car and that I should indeed not be on the bus with my ginormous pram, heaven forbid they should just move down the isle to make more space for themselves or I don't know wait for the next bus! Apologies for the rant but the amount of times I have encountered avoids on the bus I have lost count especially the sucking throughout teeth thing - what is that all about. I now have a car, a ginormous gas guzzling tractor as it is the only thing that would fit all the car seats and pram in. Pay congestion charge - now settle for huge diesel bills and abuse for having a bug car - at least I can just put the. Windows up ;) people should just be a bit bloody nicer on public transport, a few years down the line and it could be you!
  9. What time are you trying the dream feed, I intruduced a feed for my 3 at 10pm, even if I had to wake them to do it. Then they would sleep through until 6:30am all ready for breakfast. Any waking duing the time in between I found the best bet was just to leave them where they are and sooth them, lots of lovely reasuring sushing noises, stroke their heads and ensure that their nappy is nice and clean. I have never picked them up between 10pm and 06:30 am unless they have been really really crying, this would then be just to settle them so that they are calm and then return them to their cots. It has worked for me but everyone parents differently. I am a strong believer in structuring their feeds to a strick routine, any crying in between feeds is for someting other than hunger. The other thing is as to whether you are breast or bottle feeding, since my twins were 8 weeks old the 10pm feed was switched to a formula feed as I found it to be more filling than anything that I could proide, and no naps after 3:30 otherwise they were just not tired enough. My twins and son were in a routine from 2 weeks and are still in it now at 6 months and my eldest now 3 still goes to be and wakes at the same time at night. I believe that it just helps you to know where you are in the day and it makes it easier to work out if they are coming down with something as at no other time are they cranky. I know that some people do not believe in routine but I believe that babies thrive on it. Everyone is different, and so are all babies but 3 hours between feeds, then 4 when they move onto solids has worked for me. Good luck and I hope that you little darling sleeps through soon.
