Overcrowding at Memsaab Lordship Lane
Friernlocal replied to Friernlocal's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The restaurant has been sent an email about lack of social distancing and Southwark Trading Standards have been informed. -
Booked a table yesterday for 6:30 in evening. Asked beforehand if they were taking Covid-19 precautions. Was told they were following guidelines and keeping adequate distance between tables. This was not true! It was busy when we arrived and very quickly it became totally packed. There were just as many tables as before Covid-19 restrictions. It was TOO crowded. They weren't taking diners details for contact tracing. I don't advise going there during the 'eat out to help out' period.

Did you not read the previous post. It was working again. Very quick to criticise without knowing all the facts. If you ever have need to visit the new health centre you will see it is very well designed and laid out. While I can't comment on the GP surgery that operates in part of the building the rest appears well managed. -

Beckenham Hall Place closed soon after it opened as the pool isn't supervised and so a risk. I was there last week and it's still fenced of.

Southwark News: ED 91-year-old lady left with no care
Friernlocal replied to Monkey's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
This highlights the current situation with adult social care, made worse by the Covid-19 pandemic. To balance this article I have to say that my mother receives excellent care from the hard working and dedicated staff in Lew Evens House. -

JP Plastering - John McCann - Recommended Plasterer

John plastered a ceiling for me yesterday. Very pleased with result and would recommend him. Number 07905 044912 -
Can I suggest as someone who walks over the crossing every day that it does need some improvement. Every day cars jump the red lights when turning right from Townley Road into East Dulwich Grove, some even speed up to get round! What is needed are traffic enforcement cameras to catch the offenders. After a few get fined word would get around.

never-ending shenanigans at dulwich baths
Friernlocal replied to Lee Scoresby's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
As a user of both the East Dulwich baths and the one and Camberwell I can say that things are not much better there. After having no access to a local swimming facility for a year whilst both were shut I was excited by the new ones; but this soon faded as the problems began. The showers at Camberwell now appear to have new mixer controls on them so lets hope these keep going. As for cleanliness at Camberwell & Dulwich, all I can say is YUCK! Although I am not using the Dulwich changing room showers at the moment as I can't face the cold water the floor of this part of the room has been filthy for a couple of weeks with hair and other grime. At Camberwell last Friday I handed in a complaint form as the bottom of the poll was disgusting with clumps of hair rolling around like tumbleweed. Also the wood around the skylight above the men?s showers in the pool changing is now rotten due to condensation and will need replacing before it falls on someone?s head. I do hope the Lib Dem councillor James Barber will read and hopefully reply to these comments. I have to ask does the head of leisure facilities at Southwark know about these conditions and if he does then why have they been allowed to continue for so long; does Fusion Leisure not have to meet any key performance indicators? -
former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?
Friernlocal replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Dear James, Thanks for saying you will look into the freezing showers @ Dulwich baths. I'm afraid to report things are getting worse. I went there yesterday to find all the benches in the male changing room had been removed which made changing difficult. When I asked at reception the lady said they were working on them that day so she assumed they would be returned soon. Why should the benches in a new establishment need to be taken away! I hope they are refitted very soon. What else will go wring i have to ask. -
former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?
Friernlocal replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Is anyone on the council able to help with the ongoing problem of FREEZING showers at Dulwich Leisure Centre? Since the autumn the showers in the men?s pool changing room have not worked. They are always cold and several of them don?t turn off. I have complained to the duty manager on several occasions and all he is able to say is they know about the problem and are trying to rectify it. I don?t blame the staff but someone must be held accountable for what would appear to be a wait of council tax and Lottery Heritage Fund money by having contractor install a system that is not up to the job and is not made to put it right. There is a similar situation with the Camberwell Leisure Centre baths. Here not only do the showers not work but the wood surrounding the skylight above the showers is now rotting due to the condensation; ridiculous! I am not one for complaining but when there is obviously amiss I have to say something. If there is a more suitable thread for this topic I would be please to learn of it. -

Dairy on Goodrich Road (many years ago)
Friernlocal replied to Timster's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi Computedshortly, Just started to read the forum and found your stories of Goodrich Road. In the tread about a dairy in Goodrich Road you asked if any of the locals you remember still live locally. Well the Morgan?s of No. 28 Goodrich still do; I'm one of them. Ada and Stan were my grandparents and Peter was my dad. My mum moved back and now lives in Crystal Palace Road near the Castle. I recognise one other name; the Grey?s. From what I remember Les Grey passed away about five years ago and his wife Margaret was working at Dulwich Hospital until she retired about the same time. I will ask my mum for her memories of Crystal Palace Road & Goodrich.
