  1. Hi - I'm looking at buying an electric plug in hybrid for my next car. I wondered whether anyone has experience of this through Southwark Council, what the process is and costs - I've heard you need planning permission to get one?
  2. Well let's use it wisely and get some more speed bumps and narrow those roads! With a bit of luck we can get people out of those cars once and for all! London is a village after all so everyone should be walking! Surely someone at Southwark Council or TFL has "good relationships" (ahem) with Conway and can get them to help us spend this money!
  3. Yes, TFL and Southwark Council should be trusted to get on and do what is in the best interests of residents, transport users and businesses - look what a great improvement they have made to Walworth Road, Oval, Vauxhall and Elephant and Castle. Given it takes me an hour to commute from Talfourd Place SE15 to The Strand, (a journey of c.5 miles) I often get off the bus and walk as its my quicker than enduring the mess that has been presided over by wrong headed and ignorant public servants intent on spending more tax payer money to make "improvements" - code for keep themselves in a job with their latest hair brained scheme. They have made such a cock up and make life difficult for residents who use public or private transport that isn't walking or cycling to go about normal day to day life I would vote for transport policy being taken off TFL, the Mayors Office and Southwark Council and being given to some independent commission that has the interests of transport users and residents in mind, not furthering its own existence.
  4. The 12 is my San Quentin. A living hell I have to endure twice daily. Road works at Elephant & Castle make it pitiful! What on earth are TFL doing?
  5. Good luck reporting it. I did to southwark council on a car owned apparently by a local private hire company that's been parked outside my house since December - no response from Southwark and car still there.
  6. I'd be over the moon to ever get over 20mph on any roads in the area. Anyone who thinks reducing speeds will reduce dangerous driving is an idiot. I do agree Southwark Council are a completely ineffectual, self serving utter waste of time and money though!
  7. I have a spare ticket for ITV's Tour de France commentator Ned Boulting's Book Launch at Cadence Cycling in Crystal Palace tomorrow night. If anyone would like it please let me know - ?10 or a couple of pints! Details below. http://www.cadenceperformance.com/event/evening-ned-boulting/?dm_i=15TA,2YNRX,HPQ8ET,AOJBT,1
  8. Seems a little coincidental that there just happens to be a traffic warden on hand in area where there are generally no parking restrictions at a time when the council know there will be heavy traffic for an event one assumes they have licenced? One wonders if they have built this into the revenue projections?

Mild envy that you're moving to my hometown. Chorlton is very similar to ED - Didsbury also good but a bit more Clapham! Good luck
  10. I'm riding the London -Surry 100 with 2 friends in August, and we need to be at the start at 630am (ouch!) If anyone is also doing the ride and has already worked out how they are getting there, or is thinking of getting a cab or has spare space on a roof rack then please let me know... PS we're trying to avoid an extra 10 miles riding before we do 100 before some smart @rse suggests it!
  11. The market is definitely "softening" as an agent said to me a few weeks ago. My girlfriend and I are looking for a house as we're expecting, it's pretty amazing what people are asking for. I've lived in the area for 10 years now, never dreamt that a nice, but pretty standard, house would cost ?750k to ?1m. Thankfully we both have flats which have risen with the market so we have equity that can help here, tho it's still a huge amount. You just have to look at Zoopla who publish listing history on properties and tell you when they've been reduced. A house that we looked when it dropped ?30k in May has just come down another ?50k. About 9% reduction on original listing, which doesn't seem to now be unusual, tho by no means the norm - ?25k reductions at this level seem standard.I think a lot of sellers have just been amazed by the market and looking it cash in.
  12. It's 12ish miles out to Richmond Park on the south circular via Tulse Hill, Clapham and Putney, about a 7 mile lap around the park, nice coffee and a cake at the cafe there too! Or head out to Biggin Hill via Crystal Palace and West Wickham - always quiet on s saturday morning
  13. Loz >I could almost picture Malcolm from Viz's Modern Parents making > the same comment. > > But if you ever want a good politics discussion > that goes deeper than your Guardian and Daily Mail > op-ed headlines, then I'm in. I'm fine with my shallow and pithy interpration thanks very much. Besides, I can only dream of the levels of deep political insight and analysis you have provided in response.
  14. Because I stood and talked to them Loz. Fairly standard conversation technique of one person making a comment, asking a question, responding, other person asks question, you respond an so on. Amazing really where you get to when you don'[t stand around making wild uninformed assumptions. You appear to be assuming I am white, middle class lefty - not quite on the money I'm afraid. Even if it was, not sure why that would make my views and more or less valid. Please do take the piss and imply what ever you want about what paper I read or what I drink. (Neither correct by the way.) If you're an apologist, excuser or supporter of racist, xenophobic, homophobic parties then that's your call.
  15. Loz, the race of the officials isn't important at all to me - unlike Farage, Griffin et al. The fact that UKIP, BNP etc are running a campaign based on racist/aggravated xenophic/fear mongering against anyone who isn't white, straight etc etc does upset me.
