  1. Yes, TFL and Southwark Council should be trusted to get on and do what is in the best interests of residents, transport users and businesses - look what a great improvement they have made to Walworth Road, Oval, Vauxhall and Elephant and Castle.

Given it takes me an hour to commute from Talfourd Place SE15 to The Strand, (a journey of c.5 miles) I often get off the bus and walk as its my quicker than enduring the mess that has been presided over by wrong headed and ignorant public servants intent on spending more tax payer money to make "improvements" - code for keep themselves in a job with their latest hair brained scheme.

They have made such a cock up and make life difficult for residents who use public or private transport that isn't walking or cycling to go about normal day to day life I would vote for transport policy being taken off TFL, the Mayors Office and Southwark Council and being given to some independent commission that has the interests of transport users and residents in mind, not furthering its own existence.

  2. I'm riding the London -Surry 100 with 2 friends in August, and we need to be at the start at 630am (ouch!)

If anyone is also doing the ride and has already worked out how they are getting there, or is thinking of getting a cab or has spare space on a roof rack then please let me know...

PS we're trying to avoid an extra 10 miles riding before we do 100 before some smart @rse suggests it!

  3. The market is definitely "softening" as an agent said to me a few weeks ago.

My girlfriend and I are looking for a house as we're expecting, it's pretty amazing what people are asking for. I've lived in the area for 10 years now, never dreamt that a nice, but pretty standard, house would cost ?750k to ?1m. Thankfully we both have flats which have risen with the market so we have equity that can help here, tho it's still a huge amount.

You just have to look at Zoopla who publish listing history on properties and tell you when they've been reduced. A house that we looked when it dropped ?30k in May has just come down another ?50k. About 9% reduction on original listing, which doesn't seem to now be unusual, tho by no means the norm - ?25k reductions at this level seem standard.I think a lot of sellers have just been amazed by the market and looking it cash in.

  4. It's 12ish miles out to Richmond Park on the south circular via Tulse Hill, Clapham and Putney, about a 7 mile lap around the park, nice coffee and a cake at the cafe there too! Or head out to Biggin Hill via Crystal Palace and West Wickham - always quiet on s saturday morning

I'm fine with my shallow and pithy interpration thanks very much. Besides, I can only dream of the levels of deep political insight and analysis you have provided in response.

  6. Because I stood and talked to them Loz. Fairly standard conversation technique of one person making a comment, asking a question, responding, other person asks question, you respond an so on. Amazing really where you get to when you don'[t stand around making wild uninformed assumptions.

You appear to be assuming I am white, middle class lefty - not quite on the money I'm afraid. Even if it was, not sure why that would make my views and more or less valid.

Please do take the piss and imply what ever you want about what paper I read or what I drink. (Neither correct by the way.) If you're an apologist, excuser or supporter of racist, xenophobic, homophobic parties then that's your call.

  7. I wonder every morning how Platform 15 can have passed basic health and safety/fire regs. In the morninig rush, it can take a good few minutes to clear the platform and if there was ever any kind of incident where you needed to evacuate the platform eg, if the train was on fire or somethhing or get out of the station quickly I wouldn't fancy my chances. I guess they assess the risk is worth taking?
  8. Pink Panther if you read my post properly you'll realise that I was not celebrating in any way the fact that they got paid so little. I suspect your just looking for some reason to latch onto this issue and do your best Angry of East Dulwich impression.

Perhaps it was located in the wrong place in the car park such that you got a little damp on the way to such an illustrious and well appointed stadium, (you could always take 30 seconds and walk around it rather than through it?) but only a complete simpleton would think that evicting a source of revenue (however meagre and badly managed that has been) might not be the best way to helping DHFC to a financially sustainable future.

Hope DHFC and their poor rain soaked fans are pleased that they are putting out of work some people who seemed to me to work their backsides off, do a really great job and always did it in a polite and friendly way. Let's hope that karmma doesn't kick in and that they get relegated this season, they'd deserve it if they did!

  9. I'm very concerned with the influx of people that aren't from this area and come in ignoring our cultural norms that we have built up over a number of years, and trying to change them because they are different and subjectively don't like them and don't want to integrate with the community.

The sooner we ban these middle class white kids and their single speed bike and the wannabes who can't afford to live in Clapham/Barnes/Primrose Hill and want to gentrify the area the better!
