LOL....that just got my day off to a right ole chuckle Rosie :)
-
On another thread this person claims to be a police driver...incredulous really.
-
Any tips on who we think DM might be? I'll give odds of 4-1 on Tarot :)

You are indeed stupid DulwichMoan if you think a speed limit means you should always be driving at that speed.

But he did though..... 'The revenue from such a position may be sufficient. For the scaffolding to remain for some considerable time. Also it might set a precidence for a permanent hoarding' ...could be argued to be coaching the opposition. That comment would be enough to get him in hot water if the applicants complain on the grounds of undue influence.

Lead stolen from roof on Ondine Road
DJKillaQueen replied to Albert Fegg's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
There is a real problem with metal theft in the area at the moment and lead flashing is highly targetted. My advice is to make sure scaffolding is alarmed. -
I think the only opposition that is likely to be effective is that which can prove an 'unsuitability' for the site of the hoarding. A hoarding in itself is not physically detrimental to a building and a temporary one is unlikely to succeed with complaints of 'spoiling view'. I would personally do some research. Demonstrate that hoardings are not common in the area and where they do exist look at the reasons why those locations were considered suitable and draw upon differences on the positions of those hoardings and this application. James...be careful of posting on a thread where you sit on the planning committee. That in itself is a conflict of interest.

James Barber takes his complaint about 'The Colour Thief' to someone who might give a hoot! http://www.robertharrop.com/imageitem.php?i=22269&x=1&w=270&h=245&q=100&f=0

No post for last three days
DJKillaQueen replied to orlakeilyhandbag's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Too early to know what your son means. He probably isn't giving it a second thought either. Most gay people (and I'm one) don't define their feelings until well into their teens and some even later than that. And as others have pointed out, children can have crushes for all kinds of reasons.....none of them to do with sexuality. I wouldn't worry about him. The best thing for you as a parent to do is to have the kind of relationship with your son where he feels he can share his feelings if he needs/ wants to. Beyond that, the rest will come from him in his own good time. -
At last the secret formula of the Lounge is out.....words in one end......diarrhoea out the other!!!! http://www.robertharrop.com/imageitem.php?i=22270&x=1&w=270&h=245&q=100&f=0

It's very rare for foxes to attack cats....mainly because they come off worse...and especially in an urban area where food is plentiful. We can't know how the poor little thing died unfortunately.

That is very good news Huggers, and especially as it seems to have been resolved very quickly (tu)

LOL...Nette...that reminds me of that famous piece of 'Police camera Action' footage where some manic crosses lanes on a motorway, losing a little bit of control, but manages to speed away, while around 60 cars piled up in his wake..... I'm sure DJKQ will come out with some spurious argument about the restricted view of homicidal pterodactyls. Well funny you should say that because I have always wondered what the point of the pointy plastic bit attached to the front of some helmets was......It can't be aero dynamics (as you trundle along at 15 mpr) because they have holes in them (which also counts out rain and sun shields)...so it must indeed be the wanting to look like a pterodactyl factor????

Yes I agree with the downward force thing. Just on a slightly different tack though.....when is TFL going to do something to make major intersections safe for cyclists? Vauxhall and Aldwych are terrible road systems to negotiate and those who designed the lane system on Blackfriars (where a cyclist died around 8 years ago whilst in the cycle lane in the MIDDLE of the road) want shooting. Buses are particularly bad around cyclists. I can't think of any vehicle that has caused me to brake hard more than busses.

I can second PR's post. She got a very good deal on a very decent laptop from that website.

50p tax rate - perception or impact
DJKillaQueen replied to Marmora Man's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
30K might be the average salary but most people don't earn anything like it. So yes 150k per year is rich indeed compared to the majority of workers. -
A cycle helmet is not the same or anywhere near as strong as a crash helmet, but it will offer protection from certain kinds of impacts.
-
I always wear a helmet but some claim that some motorists are more considerate to cyclists not wearing helmets. Not sure if there's much truth in that....or how that can be measured.

Pleased for Arsenal tonight....hopefully it will restore some spirit to the team. Meanwhile Millwall were mullered by Wolves.....just mullered!

James, as you well know, community council funding is seperate from events funding. It is aimed at small scale community events and has a wider remit as a result. You are not comparing like for like. Events funding is aimed at large scale events, that may have borough wide appeal. How many events team officers are there James? So that we know in real terms how much 169K divvies up. The average salary of an events officer is 30k annually, hardly a massive salary by London standards. 169K sounds like a lot of money on it's own, but unless you tell us how many people that employs it's deliberatley vague and meaningless.

Not sure hundreds are catching fire and using the wrong gear oil is human error surely....nothing to do with the turbine. I'm all for turbines, along with tidal, wave and solar power. And then there's geothermal technology.......makes you wonder why we are clinging to fossil fuel when there already is the technology to potentially do without it.
-
James, I'd drop the PC argument...really I would. It doesn't matter what kind of event it is or what it's called...I don't think people really care too much about that, and it just makes you look as though you are playing party politics for the sake of it. The funding issue though is a very valid criticism. It is a lot of money, and certainly a lot of money to spend on one hour of entertainment. That is something that I think many people would like some explanation on. Firework displays are exepensive though anyway but it might be helpful to have some idea of what the ?55k is being spent on. Ian, you will find a copy of Southwark life (published by the council) on the website as a PDF and it is listed in that.
-
That's a point......what happened to the bonfires? We used to go door to door as kids collecting rubbish and wood before helping to build a massive pile in the local park!!! (imagine doing that now).....but inevitably someone always set fire to it a couple of days before :D
-
There we go James.....it's not just a firework display is it? It's a carnival of light....the Thames Festival has one of those too......and the council specifically describes it as theatre. From Southwark Life Web: www.southwark.gov.uk/ whatson Info: The Colour Thief is a vibrant, inspiring and sparkling story, an outdoor spectacle to lift the spirits and warm us into winter. Using stunning carnival creations, processions and sparkling pyrotechnics, the show will surround the Dulwich Park audience with light, colour and theatre fit for the season. So the question is, how does this relate to Bonfire night?......Well maybe it doesn't in a traditional way, but given that as you say there are lot's of traditional fireworks displays around the borough, why does it matter if this event is a bit different? The cost of it though is where you do get my ear. It seems a lot of money to spent on one event at the moment.....especially when several annual festivals lost their funding this year, and when as you say there are plenty of alternate free events over that weekend. *crossed post with MP*
-
There are lot's of events that use fireworks that are not necessarily fireworks displays....the Thames Festival for one. Is the event solely fireworks? Or will there be other types of entertainment there? I would like to hear the Entertainment Directors thinking and have more information before having a view on how the money is spent.
