  1. I loved reading this. Saying says quite a lot about cultures. One that really amused me when I arrived in England from Denmark, was this one ?Kill two birds with one stone. ? (I always get an image of stone age men (Monty Python like) throwing stones at bewildered birds?.he he) in Denmark we have a similiar one ?Kill two flies with one smack?(sl? to fluer med et sm?k"). It is a lot less dramatic and probably reflect our farming culture. Another danish saying ?man kan ikke b?de bl?se og have mel i munden? ?one cannot both blow and have flour in your mouth? That saying can only come from a pastry culture who legalized porn early?just kidding about the porn bit; blow means blow. The saying means that you should avoid multitasking completely?.do one thing at the time. ?Hellere lille og v?gen end stor og doven? ?It?s better to be small and quickwitted than big and lazy (it rhymes and sounds nice) My father used to tell me that. It?s a comforting thing to hear for the teenage Danes who are being bullied for being small i.e less than six feet tall.
  2. My boyfriend had his card details stolen as well. They've taken ?1800!!! I'm not sure which ED cash points he's used but they have taken the money from Canada.
  3. It's not a street name but I had trouble with 'Southwark' for years. I remember trying to memorize the way the tube voice said it on the jubilee line. I have problems with 'Loughborough' as well, when I said it in a meeting they all started laughing ::o because I pronounced it 'love-borrow'. ups :-) still don't know how to say it though.... I love Spanish and German at least in those language you write what you say.. I bet they have less dyslexics.....
  4. My boyfriend and I have been to spain for a week, forgot to cancel the milkman so the bottles were outside (clear signal that no one is home!). When we got in the backdoor was open to our garden. We forgot to lock it :-( But nothing had happend. East Dulwich is not such a bad place after all!!!
  5. I just got some election info through the door. But there is no information on the London Assembly candidates for Lambeth and Southwark. Well, it just says their names. I had a look at the www.londonelect.org.uk website and there is no information about them there either. I tried to google some of them but only about half have a website, and it doesn't seem particularly relevant for this election. Does anyone know where to look to see what they stand for??? Honestly, weird that they don't want to make their program easier to find....:-S
  6. The bbqs I saw had the grills locked into bbq itself, so it wasn't possible to take them unless you were a persistent welder. I actually wrote to the council today about this and they wrote to me straight away; they have forwarded my idea to the manager of the park and should hear from them within the next couple of days. I'll keep you updated.
  7. Couldn't it be cool to have bbqs in the park. I have just been visiting my brother in Copenbagen and in one of the parks they had bbqs for public use. All you needed to bring was your own coal and meat. The bbqs were bolted into the ground so they couldn't be stolen and they were placed away from big trees and other plants to avoid unintentional fires. It gave a real nice communal atmosphere to the place. I would love that in Peckham Rye Park!!
