  1. I agree with Saila, if you can get into 'good' sleep habits now, then you won't have to do any 'training' or unlearning bad habits when they're older-our baby would stay up till 10/11pm with us, or if he went to sleep at 7pm, the moment he woke up he'd be picked up and brought downstairs/in with us. In hindsight, if we'd soothed him for 5-10 minutes, we could have ironed out the problems ages ago. I used to feed Baby Baldock back to sleep when we were still bedsharing. He didn't need the feeds and eventually he was waking up 10-12 times a night to nurse, again out of habit. Night weaning helped us, but I'm not sure if your baby is a wee bit young for that at 5 months?
  2. Hiya, I consulted (via email and telephone) a sleep expert, but finally me and my husband managed to sort out my son's sleep, by training him basically. We tried Pick Up Put Down and shush patting but the only thing that really worked was controlled crying. Not all sleep experts methods will work with your baby and your situation though, bear this in mind, because it didn't for us. We've only JUST sorted out his sleep, and he's 10 months old (started training him when he was 9 months)I think if you're doing to do CC, it's advisable to wait until they're over 6 months old in any case. Until then, things that helped us: -Daytime routine. We had a bedtime routine but no daytime routine. -Consistency -Throwing out 'The Baby Whisperer', it was guilt inducing. -Asking for help, taking help when it was offered. Good luck!
  3. This reminds me of the weird crushes post. Didn't someone fancy Big Cook or Mr Tumble or something? Incidentally have met 'Justin'/Mr Tumble, and he was jolly nice.
  4. My Mum used to make goulash, but with potato wedges rather than dumplings or what have you. Never thought it was odd until we went to Prague last year. Hmm.
  5. I think Candj is actually american/canadian, hence the 'candy'. Could be wrong though. We didn't get any trick or treaters last year in SE5. Ah well.
  6. If we're going down this route...I am a bit scared of Mr Maker, and so is Baby Baldock. Not sure why, I just get a 'vibe' from him. We also both hate that 'weekend' song they sing. Again, no idea, we're just harsh critics I think.
  7. I know someone who was 1 that day...but not of anyone born. You're right, it's a cool DOB to have. My DOB 'claim to fame' is that I am exactly the same age as CBBC- I was born the same time it was launched on telly! in the morning of 01/09/1985. Tangent, sorry!
  8. Definitely- don't bother with Harley Street (or wherever...) just head to Evans/BC Bikes and bobs your uncle!
  9. He loves the helmet too, thankfully. It looks hilarious- all big on his teeny little head...
  10. And...for evidence and 'aw' factor: Mr B and Baby B on the bike
  11. I could have written this post myself, except I'm not currently pregnant (But if your New Bike Theory works...well, watch this space!) No other words of wisdom, since I am still really conflicted about what to do when I do eventually have my second baby, but you have my sympathy and I really hope you get the birth experience you want! We're all rooting for you (and Baby SB 2!) whatever you decide to do.
  12. Thanks for your advice, all! In the end, I went for the Hamax Smiley. We got it today from BC Bikes, Baby Baldock LOVES it. We've mounted it on Mr Baldock's bike and I'll be trying it soon on mine :) Taper- ta v much- will most likely be in touch! My training is a bit ridicolous at the moment- I did a half marathon when I was 19 and the year before I got up the duff I did a 10k for cancer research. It was...laughable to say the least.
  13. Candj, this sounds the sort of thing we SHOULD have bought. D'oh! A quick scan of the website confirms that the baby kit...thing sounds ideal. How much are they though? We can't seem to find a price on the website at all...
  14. Haha well I hope I'm fit- I'm training for the London marathon! Molly, the front seat dilemma is down to ther not being enough room from where th frame meets the handlebars. However, you mentioning bc bikes has given me the idea to go in there tomo and ask what kind of seats are availble for our frames. Tried googling the seats you mentiond but to no avail! We bought the trailer anyway, for use in a year or so- we could always rent it out to sporty families in the interim!
  15. Whoa, bit harsh! Nice how you're assuming we're all female and not working though. Ignorant, you say? Also, the whole thread is clearly slightly tongue in cheek, I don't think anyone will be forming some kind of picket line outside of the BBC any time soon...
  16. Hello all, After visiting the Cycle Show today, me and Mr Baldock are inspired! He's been cycling for donkeys years, and I am waiting for my first bike since I was 15 to arrive. (His is an SE Lager 2010 and mine is a Charge Plug 2010; both are single speeds and he rides fixed for those of you who...care) Baby Baldock is just shy of 10 months and weighs 18lbs ish. We ideally wanted to get one of those seats that sits on the front of your bike, but they won't fit on either of our bikes. The ones that sit on the back ARE good but bloody fiddly to put on, as we'd have to buy pannier racks and all that jazz. We're looking at an adventure ST3 (http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=20683), and we're assuming the age limit is 12-18 months - 4 years. Does anyone have any experience with this particular trailer or failing that, trailers in general? Any other recs? Ta v much!
  17. I got all A*s and As (swot) at GCSE. It didn't make a blind bit of difference, no one has ever asked what grades I got as long as they knew I had a pass in my 'core' subjects. TBH I personally see GCSEs as a 'stepping stone' to get onto something higher. My sister got all grade C's and has had exactly the same academic oppurtunities I've had, except that she can't/won't apply to Oxbridge like I did (but I got rudely rejected, wah wah wah) Some 6th forms want a 'B' in the GCSE of a subject you want to take at A-Level, but I know this isn't universal by any means...
  18. My 9 month old son does this, screaming bloody murder at any 'annoyance'. My husband said to me 'would you put up with someone screaming and shouting at you in any other circumstance?'. I said No, obviously. I just ignore his tantrums now, and usually plop him out of harms way and let him calm down. Usually works. To get back at me, he bites me when I'm breastfeeding him. Hmm, you win this round Baby Baldock...
  19. Sort of- when I was working in a school, a child made a disclosure to me but it was more about worrying activities that she participated in rather than neglect at home (she was 13)
  20. My sister has just turned 17, but has had FB since she's was 14. My Mum and I are both added as friends, and my Mum reguarly 'catches her out' when she's tagged in photos drinking and such. Sometimes, my sister L will lie and say she's going to a mate's house when really she's going clubbing illegally (she was at Fabric not a million years ago...). She was tagged in several photos, off her face, and Mum saw. I THINK she's been grounded for about a million years. Worst thing is that Mum did genuinely trust L, but L just totally abused it. Tut tut. When I was 14, a mere 11 years ago, there was no WAY I'd have added my Mum as a mate on FB, because she would have caught me out (I was generally a good kid, but we all have our moments...) I'm 25 now and she keeps posting things on my wall about not getting knocked up again and correcting my friend's spelling. CRINGE.
  21. Baby Baldock (9 1/2 months) eats: -Chips. Most notably, the awful ones at Ikea today. -Biscuits (home mad oatmeal and cranberry, but still...) -Chocolate bourbons (only when I'm not looking) -Crayons (err...) -MIL's dry dogfood. For the dog, not her. We're having our kitchen totally re-done at present (sorry to any forumites that know this, I won't stop harping on about it, it's a source of constant joy and terror) and all our kitchen stuff is in boxes in the living room. I found Baby Baldock happily licking the outside of a stock cube he'd managed to prise out of it's wrapper today. Ah well.
  22. Gosh, everywhere is in ED I think. I've breastfed all over- Blue Mountain, Mon Petite Chou, Green and Blue, Peckham Rye Pk cafe, various pubs, blah blah blah. Also, no one can stop you BF in public, the law is on your side. So if they 'frown' on you doing it, it's their problem not yours.
  23. Keef, that's how babies get made you know! You live, you learn and all that ;)
  24. http://flyingwithchildren1.blogspot.com/ It's American, but still might be useful?
  25. Couldn't agree more, legalbeagle!
