DHFC noise disturbance, evening match
nxjen replied to beagle1's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Whether there was drumming at the match or not is a bit of a red herring. The original post was about noise levels however caused which the OP found unacceptable. This may be just a first salvo with regard to future development plans. -
Amott road - Noise disturbance - Party animal house
nxjen replied to Karinoushka's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
My sympathies but it's strange you're posting the number of the Southwark Council Noise Team when you can't be bothered to call them yourself. -
Forest Hill Road Practice - in Meltdown ?

There are many other reasons for phoning a doctor's surgery, including test results, information for insurance forms etc. I had cause to phone regarding the latter earlier in the year and must have been talking to the receptionist for about 10 minutes who took pains to find out the information I was seeking (it was mostly to do with dates) and was extremely patient with me, even to the extent of phoning me back when I accidentally pressed the wrong button on my phone and cut us off. I'm very sorry to learn of the difficulties there are at present regarding appointments and I hope they are resolved soon. I reckon morale amongst the admin staff must be very low. -
Don't you mean "English teaching might not OF been as good as it is now"?

There may be the odd stall or two on Boxing Day but in past years there hasn't been a full market on the Saturday after Christmas.

New opportunity to save the woods!! Deadline Friday 23rd
nxjen replied to Michaelcb's topic in The Lounge
HopOne is partially correct. Used to be part Camberwell and part Lewisham land until boundary changed in 190O. See Nisbet p32 -
Moved to the Lounge. Cue Louisa.

Thread hasn't appeared back from the Lounge, edborders has resurrected an old thread. Another ridiculous argument that because the ground is consecrated trees should not be cut down to make way for burials. The church consecrated the cemetery to allow for Christian burials so that people may be buried on consecrated ground, not to be a protected site where shrubs are free to grow. Or should all consecrated ground be neglected to revert to shrubland? Good luck with that, it would be a bit too pagan for the Church of England.

luxury flats in rye lane, no more bussey - sign the petition!

Is this the same as a right of way? Would this predate any elevations that fall within a Protected Frontage designation? -
Charlie Sheen is HIV positive is it in the public interest
nxjen replied to Ridgley's topic in The Lounge
The reason he went public was that he was being blackmailed by those who had found out. Clearly, the only way to stand up to them was to go public. -

Applicant given on planning application form is Frame Property, information is in the public sphere. They have offices at 100 Clements Road, Bermondsey i.e. the old Peak Frean factory. Having read the application, I think it shows great sensitivity to the culture that has evolved around the Bussey Building and wishes to maintain it. -
"Now that M&S and Waitrose are both rolling out smaller store formats, they'll become much more ubiquitous. To date, they have been opened in large retail units available in places like Brixton or in new retail parks like the one in Charlton where they could operate at scale." The Brixton M&S store predates any roll out of smaller store formats, it is a remnant of the old style M&S before the introduction of their food range. I can remember it definitely from the 80s, Sue can remember it from at least the 60s, and I suspect it originally opened some time in the 30s.

Dangerous junction for bikes: Peckham rye and Nunhead lane
nxjen replied to lilaclou's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
There is something about this junction. As a pedestrian I feel very uncomfortable using it. -
The Brixton and Eltham M&S stores are probably survivors from the times when M&S sold only clothes and were not seen as particularly middle class. It was only when they introduced their food range in the early 1980s that they began to appeal more to the middle classes. Their food was comparatively speaking very very expensive and gradually their marketing was pitched towards the middle classes and the aspirational, for their food products at least.

The losing bid was proposing 800, yes eight hundred, affordable artists' studios. Southwark Council was quoted as saying: "The car park is a public space and we didn?t just want it to become just a closed artist commune.? This would not have been in keeping with the wider Peckham community.

former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?
nxjen replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Also as our wonderful plane trees are growing so tall, the amount of fallen leaves is increasing year on year. -
"According to FOI investigation in Mail today this is the pay of our top councillors" Think this should read top council officers, councillors only receive expenses.

Upland Road / Crystal Palace Road junction
nxjen replied to RobMiller's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Problem is the front elevations of the new houses are very close to the pavement (wouldn't like to live there when built) and I don't see how they can be physically built without intruding onto the footpath during construction. I always walk on the other side now. -
About 20 years ago I phoned Southwark Council helpline regarding the disposal of some old paint. The advice I received was astounding. I was told the paint couldn't go in the general waste as the tins may burst and spill over the operatives. If I couldn't take it to the depot then I could either: (a) leave it out with the lid off so that the paint would solidify and then it would be OK to put in the general waste (b) pour the paint down the drain. As I type this I find it unbelievable I was given such advice but I swear it's true. Hopefully training has improved since then. (I eventually took the half empty tins to the depot, then in Manor Place)

New opportunity to save the woods!! Deadline Friday 23rd
nxjen replied to Michaelcb's topic in The Lounge
You may be confused with a post I made seeking clarification from Admin about the area that could be included in the Main section. As for Camberwell Old Cemetery, it may not be within East Dulwich Ward but with an SE22 postcode it is clearly in East Dulwich. Where do you think it is? -

The Officers Report which can be found from following the link on ianr's post makes for interesting reading and calmly counters the objections. The area is referred to as "recent ruderal shrub" that's 12 years old, and more trees will be planted than destroyed.
