  1. Hi, I am looking for an odd job man to take away a shower unit and a couple of pieces of plaster board from my ground floor flat in Lordship Lane. If anyone is able to do this on Sunday evening or one evening after 7pm that would be perfect. Please contact me on 07940 425062 if you can do this job and your best price. Many thanks.
  2. I have quite a few jobs that need investigating and resolving and would greatly appreciate recommendations and advice. I have a ground floor flat and need help with: 1. There appears to be a leak somewhere in the pipe work in the bathroom or near the bedroom radiator. It could be from the bath, shower or radiator but I need an expert to identify the source of this leak. It has caused the skirting board between the bathroom and bedroom to rot and there is a lot of mould under the carpet and in two corners of the bedroom. 2. I also need to explore the possibility of there being damp in the bedroom. Could it be rising damp? 3. I need the front steps leading to the front door of the building to be sealed as water is seeping through and causing mould to grow inside my flat. 4. I'd like someone to look at the pointing work (v minor work needed) as again I think it is causing water to seep into the flat in a couple of places. 4.I am not sure if the flat is adequately ventilated and may need to get extractors throughout. 5. The front door frame needs to be replaced as rain water is pooling around the base and has caused it to rot. In addition to this I need a drainage system made so that the water doesn't puddle around the frame. 6. I need locks for my bay window replacing. I guess the last two jobs could be done by a handy man but I am also looking for a very good plumber and also a damp specialist to assess and repair as necessary. Very grateful for responses. Emily
  3. Hi there, I work for Changing Faces, a charity for people affected by disfigurement and I'm currently looking for volunteers to help us with a special workshop. Beauty Inside Out workshop is a one day event and is our most popular therapeutic group event. It is exclusively for women with a disfigurement who wish to explore their appearance concerns in a safe environment. The workshop usually has between 10-12 participants, and will take place this year on Saturday 14th June at our Central London offices. While the workshop is an all-day event, we are looking for volunteers to help us from 12:30-5pm. The aim of the workshop is to create a space in which women feel able to share how they cope with the challenge of living with an unusual appearance in an appearance-focused society. It is about considering how we use aspects of appearance including body language to communicate how we want to ?come across?, addressing aspects of appearance we can control and those we can?t. Thinking positively about appearance is something that people with a visible difference can often find quite challenging and the workshop aims to give them the opportunity to play and have fun experimenting with their appearance in this safe and supportive setting. We'd like to offer mini-sessions (30 mins per participant) with each professional volunteer (potentially you). We are inviting a maximum of 5 professionals from different appearance/body focused disciplines (for example hair dressing, make-up, stylist, massage therapy, body language & movement, etc) who will give their time for individual 20-30 minute sessions with the participants during the afternoon. We are able to cover expenses and can offer a small fee for your services, but always gratefully accept any pro bono work offered. For more information about Changing Faces please have a look at our website at www.changingfaces.org.uk, If you are interested in offering your service for Beauty Inside and Out or would like further information please email me at [email protected] or you can also speak to Matt Austin, our team assistant on 020 7391 9282. Thank you in advance for your time and I look forward to hearing from you! With best wishes Emily Wheeler Edited 1 time(s). Last edit was today, 03:43pm by lordshiplass.
  4. Hi, I've just rented out my flat in East Dulwich and have had to get in a number of trades people/professionals to get it ready for my new tenant. (All of whom have been excellent!) Just dealt with Patrick Myers at Dulwich Energy Assessors as it's a legal requirement to have an up to date Energy Performance Certificate. I found Patrick to be professional, friendly and very prompt in getting things done. Exemplary service! His contact details, should anyone need this service are: T: 020 3664 9968 M: 07931 338 854 E: [email protected] [email protected] I do like passing on a good recommendation and have appreciated getting them myself from the forum so hope this is helpful to others...
  5. Hi, Can I also recommend the Spin Doctor. On both occassions, Steve was easy to reach by mobile phone and asked all the right questions in order to asses the problem and arrange a quick call out. He was punctual, friendly and professional. In this case the washing machine panel with the buttons you press to start the machine had fallen through into the back of the machine. He was able to fix it very easily and the job was done within 30mins and his fee was very reasonable indeed. He also gave me some good advice to prevent me having any future problems. I would not hestitate in recommending The Spin Doctor! Emily (East Dulwich)
  6. Hi all, I am just getting my flat prepared to rent out and there is a minor fault with my washing machine. I have previously used Steve (the spin doctor) who was fantastic and Dan once (also good). They are both on holiday abroad and I really need to get someone round over the weekend/Monday. Can anyone recommend any other local repair guy? Many thanks, Emily
  7. A very lovely thing happened to me today and I thought I'd share it on the forum. I was on the number 40 bus this lunchtime and suddenly realised as I got off that I'd not got my purse..it must have fallen out of my bag. Got home and was about to start cancelling everything feeling really upset as I also had a lot of money in the purse when up popped an e-mail via linkedin from a lovely man called Matthew who had been on the same bus with his son. The boy had spotted my purse and given it to his dad who managed to track me down. An hour later I had my purse back and I was able to give a card, some money, and chocolate to Matthew's (seven year old?) son as a thank you. I'm moving to Sheffield on Sunday after 13 great years in London. Have always enjoyed living here and today just re-confirmed how lovely people are in life! Thanks also to the forum which has been brilliant in so many ways - from providing the comfy sofa I'm sitting on now, to facilitating the chance for me to join a great local choir amongst loads of other things. x
  8. Hi, I am looking for a painter to re-paint two front doors (one at front of property and ond at the side) on Lordship Lane. Looking for quotes and a the job to be done fairly quickly. Please send a pm with names/recommendations etc. Thanks so much, Emily
  9. I have been down a couple of times and got some good bargains. My brother has sold stuff there too and did well. It's not brilliantly attended but I think there is so much potential for it to be a great local Car Boot as the field is big and well located being right by Sainsburys...I feel it needs to be better advertised and perhaps they should put up a sign on Dog Kennel Hill so people know it's happening. 14. Hi Diana, Sounds like you have a really organised plan in mind. Great stuff. Unfortunately, I can't open the attachments. Could you try again in a basic word document? Many thanks, Emily
  15. I have watching Come Down We Me in a whole new way since this thread started. Think it will be a real laugh!
  16. Coming into this thread really late on(!) Is anyone up for having a street paty on Upland Road? Even if you are not a Royalist, we have a day off so why not make the most of it. I think the deadline for accplications to the council is tomorrow (march 17th)....
  17. Good on you for organising this Diana, I will send you an e-mail to say that I would like to go in the mixed group. Should be really fun. Liking the idea of putting ?15 in the pot to make a prize too.
