  1. It would appear that the mother and all three goslings / ducklings are no longer resident at the lake. Does anyone know what's happened to them?
  2. I spotted a lone man earlier in the area opposite the Harris Academy with what looked like a hand held, petrol engined leaf blower, but which was probably a vacuum type device, so maybe that's their solution? There was a lot of coloured confetti in exactly that area, so I'm guessing that's what he was clearing up. But that's the wrong spot - should be over near Colyton Road...
  3. I emailed Renata Hamvas and Vicki Mills (Peckham Rye ward councillors) yesterday and sent a link to the video. She replied to say: "Thanks for bringing it to my attention, I have contacted officers and have asked that the liaise with We Are The Fair to get this resolved." But I'm surprised no one from the council appears to have checked the site to see if it is safe and suitable to be reopened to the public before the contractors left, especially before a sunny weekend.
  4. That?s a fair point, DuncanW, it did cross my mind but I wanted to leave the site intact in case anyone from the council or organisers did go over to have a look. The purpose of the video was to document the situation. However I?ve just gone over there again and picked up the two screws in the video. I wonder how many more are lurking in the grass though?? Also it doesn?t look any different from earlier, so it would appear the organisers consider it complete.
  5. I agree grass will grow back, given time and left alone to recover - possibly not ideal conditions in a popular park in Summer, though. And I also hope everyone had a good time, just a shame they couldn't respect the park a little more. I went over there an hour ago and there is still a terrible amount of litter. Not sure where you walked your dog elloriac, this was over near Colyton Road. Very sad of me, but I felt a video would show the evidence best, hopefully it's accessible (and excuse the huffing & puffing, I was crouching and walking!) https://photos.app.goo.gl/PS5PvqLiL2CYrZrd6
  6. I went for a walk over the Gala site today, now that the hoardings & hazard tape has been removed. Really shocked & saddened to see not only the amount of damage to the grass, but more the quantity of small items of litter covering almost every square inch of the whole site. Hundreds, maybe thousands of fag butts, bottle tops, can ring pulls, cut off cable ties etc etc. I thought they were supposed to be leaving it as they found it, if not better? Does anyone know whether anyone from the council will be inspecting the site closely? It really needs a team of litter pickers to comb the area and pick up every bit. Go and have a look - you'll be appalled.
  7. Yes, it is very unusual for the Summer! I've lived here 15 years and there's never been this level of activity, day or night. Daytime is fine, I appreciate this year is different and people need to get out, especially with the good weather, and it's actually nice to hear the buzz. I also appreciate that people would ordinarily be elsewhere, maybe at friends, family, the pub, club, holiday, but hanging around in those numbers, making that amount of noise, that late at night, in a closed, locked park, and leaving that amount of litter, is just massively inconsiderate, careless, selfish & thoughtless - the very definition of anti-social? Maybe I'll try 101 next time, but last time I did that (after having bikes stolen) I was amazed to find it had cost me several ??s, for no benefit...
  8. We live on Colyton Road, and most nights in the supposedly closed & locked park there are groups of what sound like many more than six people having parties / gatherings, with lots of singing, shouting, screaming etc until gone midnight - there's some there right now. The poor park warden always shouts that he's closing the park around 9.30, but I appreciate he's not expected to evict people who won't leave. I've submitted online reports to the Met several times, but have had no response apart from the usual acknowledgement of submission emails. I would call 101 but suspect it would have the same result, and cost me money. I appreciate they are busy and probably short staffed, and are wary of groups after the incidents in Brixton etc., but surely something can be done? It's not just the noise at night, or the blatant flouting of the covid regulations which may well contribute to a second wave, it's the amount of rubbish that is left behind. My partner & boys go for a walk early every weekday morning, and are appalled at the cans & bottles strewn everywhere. Also, with no toilet facilities open, there's probably plenty of other material left behind. I can't believe I'm the only person who is aware of, and getting increasingly frustrated with, this issue, although I can't seem to find any posts on this forum, which is a surprise! Anyone got any ideas...?
  9. There used to be a CCTV smart car many, many years ago, but I think the council realised they'd make way more money relocating it to Lordship Lane, to penalise unsuspecting charity shop donators parking outside M&S before 10am... There was a period of a few weeks, maybe six to twelve months ago, when there were occasional visits by traffic wardens and police, but they were so conspicuous that the usual parkers / stoppers spotted them a mile off and just carried on up the road. Also they only seemed to be looking for offences right outside the main gates, rather than the extended double yellows and dropped kerbs by the mini roundabouts.
  10. Living opposite Peckham Rye Park, I can tell you that most of the rubbish is from the various rowdy groups who seem to think it's fine to have parties / gatherings of way more than six people until gone midnight in the locked park. My family go for a walk there every weekday around 7.30 and the park is a tip. And bearing in mind there are no toilet facilities, I expect there's a lot more been left behind too. I've submitted reports to the Met online several times, but zero response apart from the usual "We've passed it on to the relevant dept" emails. Anyone else fed up with this inconsiderate behaviour?
  11. Rockets - it wasn't that the school didn't want a temporary barrier, it's just that they don't have the surplus staff to operate it. Nigello - the "schoolyard" is actually one of two relatively small playgrounds, both of which are vital areas for the kids to, er, play... The issue is, and always has been, the level of traffic around the school, particularly at drop off & pick up times when the majority of the families are walking / scooting / cycling to school. I think the council's plan is to make parking / stopping such a pain that people will stop doing it. The extended double yellows didn't work (there were already dropped kerbs there that it is an offence to obstruct!) so I guess this is the next step. I think initially there will be chaos until people realise, then we'll see. But it is the careless, thoughtless, selfish few who insist on parking / stopping / dropping wherever they want, with zero consideration for others, who will continue to do it irrespective of any action. Only policing & fines will have any effect on them...
  12. We discovered our twin boys' bikes were missing from our communal hallway this morning. Another resident earlier found the front door had been put on the latch when they went out, but no idea if that was done carelessly by another resident or deliberately by the thief. Also no idea how they got in, as there's no damage to the door or lock. If anyone sees or hears of two (badly faded) orange Cube kids bikes being ridden around or being offered for sale, please get in touch. Obviously I'm keeping an eye on eBay / Gumtree / Shpock etc. The details are - 2015 Cube Kid 240 SL - frame numbers W0W25030K & W0W09855K (both registered with BikeRegister but only one marked as such) Hydraulic disc brakes Suntour XCR LO 24 forks (air suspension) Shimano Deore 2 x 10 gears They were originally a bright dayglo orange which has faded a lot over time but are still very bright and noticeable. They were also top of the range bikes when new, so are very light and have very good components - not the average kids bike. Many thanks.
  13. Back to the hooligans on bikes, a couple of things no-one seems to have mentioned. These amoebas have been riding around the area like this for months, usually on a Sunday and in smaller groups, but still in a pathetic, childishly reckless manner. Also the bikes are mostly off-road / motocross, which are therefore not road legal - no MoT, no insurance, no tax, no lights, and obviously no number plates. These aren't 'motorcyclists', they're not even 'bikers', they're just antisocial pond life on scramblers, making everyone's life just that little bit more miserable and unpleasant. No idea how the authorities can do anything, no amount of CCTV will identify any of them without registrations, just hope they get bored or see sense before someone gets hurt.
