  1. Whilst I agree with most of the issues that have been said regarding architecture, demographics, social mobility and cohesion what I think has been overlooked are the demographics and social mobility etc of some of those people who have renovated properties some to an excellent standard in East Dulwich whilst helping to improve the local area and helping keep local people in employment. I am not from London, I have lived on a council estate in Brixton for 6 years, I also went to University later in life and worked all hours to get me through it, I did not buy property till even later in life so treasured it when I did, I was single and did it all on my own, designed the interior, financed it, managed it, I spent a lot of my hard earned money, time and energy and employed local tradesmen and bought materials from local shops so why should I not benefit from this financially? Not all people who live in expensive properties are selfish, irresponsible, middle class, married to rich men, yummy mummies with no concern or regard for what is going on in the rest of London and possibly they are now suffering from the recession too.
  2. Really did not mean to offend just genuinely really fed up with this situation, now I will get on with my life............ never a good idea to get on this forum I should learn my lesson
  3. So you think I am insensitive, what about the people who leave their bins out and rubbish all over the street, I suppose they are really aware of their neighbours? if I read this on this forum and thought it might be me I would do something about it!!! Who is insensitive here? Get over it!
  4. You would think if you'd bought a house for over a million you would have enough money left to buy a skip and that you could make a space allocated for your bins, in all fairness they have not been in there long and the house was split into flats, not sure what there situation is, even so when I did a renovation job I paid for a skip and put all the rubbish in it and did not leave it sprawling all over the pavement outside, every week there is stuff left outside irrespective of what day the bin men come and all their bins are just left haphazhard for people to walk round, may have to go round and have words but do I really need to fall out with my new neighbours............
  5. When a loved one has died in a public place, as my sister did in a hit and run incident, even though you want the culprit caught so they are not able to commit another crime, you actually desire more than anything privacy, not your relative named and becoming a public spectacle. As a family we denied any media interference as the media only sensationalise stories like this. The culprit was caught and justice was seen to be done without the media getting involved. Give the man in the park and his family some privacy and as for the man in Sydenham park, I am sure this will not lead to a spate of hangings that you and your children may come across!!!
  6. If you walk back though after your curry and beer you will live longer, just think of how many more curries and pints you could consume then!
  7. Hi Susierose I am a Marmora Road resident and also sick of the dog poo, there is a staffy that is often not on the lead, it pood in my front garden once, I'm sure the owners were aware but just carried on walking by, I had to clean it up. Are you also sick of the bins on the pavement, that is my pet hate at the moment, hate the fact that I am beginning to sound like Victor Meldrew!
  8. Come to Marmora Road, SE22 Fazer, still walking distance to Lordship Lane, the houses that have not been converted to flats are large and imposing with grand staircases and large gardens, the houses that have been made into flats, the flats are still large and spacious. My flat is high spec, spacious with gardens front and back and for sale if anyone is interested?
  9. If you want a large flat with a large garden, free parking outside, next door to the park, within walking distance of Honor Oak Park station and the East London line, 12 mins to London Bridge, not much longer now to North London and easy access to the West End with a 2 minute walk away to a really good Italian restaurant, good fish and chip shop, good cafe and pub come up to Marmora Road, still got the Se22 postcode. I do have a flat to sell!
  10. Does anyone know the law on leaving bins on the pavement? I live on Marmora Road and am absolutely sick of some people leaving their bins out on the pavement, there is no excuse because everyone has a front garden or a path at the side of the house. These bins are a form of litter. Some people have moved in next door apparently have paid over a million for the house but since they have moved in the pavement outside their house is full of different types of rubbish, old mattresses etc left for days, all their over flowing bins, it s so bloody selfish, help! what is one to do?
  11. I find the Herne always cold and lacking in atmosphere so wouldn't stay around long enough to try the food.
  12. I agree more trees. More were planted originally but some have died. Why is there never a maintenance programme for anything it seems in this country? If something dies replace it ??????, plants need tending to until they become established. It's false economies as they will probably now have another planting programme 5 years down the line when someone in the Council realises that there aren't as many trees as they had planned for.
  13. Si Mangia is a brilliant local restaurant, don't knock it!!!! We don't need another chippy. A good bistro/wine bar would be good though, one with lit candles and good red wine serving coq au vin and beef bourgignon. (very 70's retro) Somewhere inviting on a cold Winter's night. Or somewhere like the 'Real Greek' yummy. That parade of shops could certainly do with a tidy up, although it's definitely an improvement on a year or so ago.
  14. So if it s the boundary of your property where bin men should replace the bin then there should not be all those bins on the pavement, on Marmora Road there are plenty of gardens or garden paths to put bins, although people do put their bins onto the pavement to make sure they are emptied, it's a problem.............................
  15. Maybe people should be fined for leaving their bins on the pavement, it would be difficult to implement but it may just be an incentive to make people put their bins back or make space for them, although I can see the problems already as some people just don't have the space. It's a difficult one.
  16. Hi Dave. I was right then, I knew it would seem ridiculous to some, Yes if the bins were biodegradeable the rubbish would be all over the floor in maybe 10 years, or however long it takes biodegradable stuff to break down. In the meantime maybe someone clever could come up with a solution, or maybe someone not so clever can remove all the excess bins and someone at the council can think of the consequences of making bad decisions that affect our environment and not bloody well do it again
  17. I did not think for one minute they would change them, I just feel so angry about it. The bins not being bio degradable I think is part of the problem, not ours but certainly some future generations, why are they trying to phase out plastic bags when they are making so many other BIG things out of plastic? what was wrong with bins being made out of metal as before? they can be recycled and made into other things when no longer needed. I will be continuing with the blue box, do you know who I contact to get rid of the large blue bin? I really do not have that much waste, I am not a great fan of convenience or over packaged food. Thanks Evie
  18. HGi Sue I am going to do that, I hope they will do something about it at least have less of them if nothing can be done about the colour, I personally would like the colour changed to something more acceptable that will blend in. This may seem ridiculous to some, but I feel this could be the start of the decline of our area. The street looks like a dumping ground now. It really isn't fair on those who have spent time, effort and money to improve their properties and help to improve the area.
  19. I have just walked down Marmora Road and there are so many bins on the pavements, I personally find it depressing, it is relevant to where we live, you can be both concerned about this as well as the appalling state some people live in both this country as well as Africa, some people have worked bloody hard to get out of some awful area to live here and we dont deserve to have our environment ruined, all these bins on our pavements are extremely unsightly. surely they are not all necessarry, they are litter on the pavements and made of plastic which is environmentally bad. I hate the blue colour too, a bad decision, at least the brown and green blended in before. It used to bug me before when residents did not put their bins back after emptying and leave them on the pavement, now, there is not enough space in people's gardens to put them back even if they wanted.
  20. OOOOps I forgot to stress that the bins are on the pavement! Evie
  21. There have been a few threads on here re people's issues on bins, some are asking about what to do with the old blue cartons and getting smaller replacements for the new larger blue bins, someone else today as started one about how unsightly they are and the blight of the street, I wanted to add to this thread but there is a lock on it and was unable to? Is this because there was a thread about bins already? I think this is a separate issue and should be allowed it's own thread. So here goes. I have just walked down Marmora Road and it looks so unsightly, it is ruining the street. There are so many bins now it's ridiculous, there are the old blue cartons along with the new blue bins, there are too many bins to fit into spaces that some residents have made available in their gardens, it was bad enough before when residents just left their bins on the street without bothering to put them back after being emptied. Who decided to make the new bins bright blue? they really stand out, at least the brown and green bins blend in more, could they not have made them more neutral, black, or grey? These bins are ugly and another form of litter and are made of plastic which is bad for the environment. Does anyone else feel angry about this? IS IT REALLY NECESARRY TO HAVE ALL THESE BINS? Can something be done about it? Evie
  22. All these bins are making our streets look such a mess and all that plastic!!!!! we now have to get rid of the blue plastic boxes, what will happen to them? I thought we were supposed to be using less plastic??????
  23. ok yes i obviously mean the station, the last bus stop is actually in East Dulwich and not Honor Oak, I live on Marmora Road which is the last street in East Dulwich and the bus stop is before that. The walk to the station is 15 mins if walking quickly, it would not be too bad if it was not up a steep hill, the p12 bus is so infrequent, I have waited ages for it, so always end up walking.
  24. I have bees living in a dead plant in my front garden, would anyone be able to take them away????? FREE BEES ANYONE ?
