  1. I too am intrigued by Werdna101's information. I had over ?1,000 worth of work done to my flat at the Council's insistence. I put up a good fight but was told I could not use my own contractor. After the works were carried out (to an extremely poor standard) I made a Southwark rep come to the property to see the work, which he agreed was terrible. He offered a small discount, but it was marginal. Annoyingly, he then said 'you could have used your own person' (my dad is a qualified tradesman and was livid at the overall charge & the quality). So if this information is correct, I will definitely follow up with the Council. Thanks for info.
  2. I've had this driver on my train too. He's great. There must have been at least 4-5 passengers who went up to the driver's cabin on arrival and thanked him. It's the small things that make a difference!

Try JAGS sports club just near North Dulwich Station... They don't list it on their website but I know they do it! http://www.jagssportsclub.co.uk/contactus.asp
  4. Hey Sue - there are reports of burglaries on this forum regularly so I'm pretty sure people - anxious & vunerable or not - can make up their own minds, from their own experiences, about whether they feel safe in and around ED. As I said, I feel perfectly safe in ED even though I too have been a victim of crime here! Was just giving Paul a little neighbourly understanding :) Also, it's a bit worrying if one person's comments on concerns over safety sends the entire ED population into a frenzied panic. News of a new Waitrose might. Lane Lover - agree.... crime is a part of life, wherever you live, sadly.
  5. Hey Paul, sorry about what happened to you. It's a very disturbing experience. I'm also sorry some of our forum friends are so insensitive/protective. I think it's good you shared your experience - reminds people to be careful. I saw this article recently (and I think it has been posted on here before) - ED rating in top 20 hotspots for burglary. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/the-top-20-burglary-hotspots-8466447.html However, burglaries aside (which granted, can happen anywhere), I feel ED is generally a safe place to live. Best wishes to you.
  6. Welcome to the East Dulwich Forum Chris... (sigh)
  7. I can recommend Fringe in Herne Hill... Ladies wash, cut & blow dry for ?32. Plus, the girls who run it are absolutely lovely.
  8. I'm afraid I must agree with tallulah71.
  9. I couldn't agree more with the comments on here... I too spend half my life waiting for this bus as I have friends in Clapham and pl1ay sport in Brixton. Like others, I often find it quicker to walk, and have even beaten the bus home walking from Brixton before!! You can guarantee that when you've been waiting forever and you finally see that blurry number 37 in the distance, getting closer and closer - you'll soon see it's 'not in service'!! In my view, the best thing TFL can do (if they can't increase the number of buses) is to install countdown timers at more bus stops along the route. Especially at Herne Hill station where it's a big commuter interchange. I'm forever whinging to my boyfriend about the buses and he tells me to write to TFL. I've always thought it was pointless because they are unlikely to listen to one person - but now I know it's not just me, I'm tempted to forward a link to this thread!
