Yes but it does seem to be pretty much all black teenagers who are stabbing and killing each other. Its hard to deny this. Certainly doesnt make it racist to point it out and it does raise questions . your post smacks of defensiveness to be honest ok there are problems in all communities but a lot of young lost boys in the black community and i think the community needs to examine why this is the case and try and act to stop it, rather than somehow deny it & blame it on white racism.

I bet you ?1000 the murderers and victim came from highly disfunctional, disadvantaged backgrounds with a history of big trouble and probably parents and relatives doing time for all manner of crime and well known to the police. You don't accidentally become a thirteen year old waging war with a gun whikst skipping between piano lessons and speech and drama classes, onr a 15 year old ready to knife another teenager to death with a mob. Honestly , these predictable, head in the samnd responses are just laughable and deny the reality of this lost generation of young men. i want to mean well too and don't want to automatically "assume" a detailed profile of the killers and victims when i hear stories like this about the east dulwich murder. It's just that 95% of the time, the profile is correct. as someone else posted they rarely fall outside this profile of the underclass.
  3. All the police do nowadays in London is try to contain all this sort of crime (black on black, guns and knives) in particular areas. Its the same as New York in the 80s. We are shocked when it comes out into our safe little world but the reality is we live on the edge of a poor ghetto choc full of barely literate people, and also many who have come from war torn countries or are physcologically damaged in some other way. Its time we stopped hand wringing and started real intervention rather than making excuses. However the communities in these ghettos need to also realise there is a problem with their kids and the way they bring their kids up & stop blaming police, stop and search, the government, etc. When i made a point about black parents up thread there was horror that i might "assume" the victim and perpretrators were black and hang wringing liberal outrage ensued. However this has been borne out in the later reports. Just a sad young black boy murdered, and other parents not knowing ( ir caring?) that their 13 year old might be using firearms. I'm sorry but this whole situation is by and large a parenting issue and the lack of father figures and role models plays a big part and you have to ask yourself why this is. Doubtless some posters will find reasons to put blame on anyone but the familes that are responsible for bringing these kids up.
  4. The usual cheap waste of life. We don't get it so much around here but in some parts of London this happens every week. Why do young black males do this to each other? Its beyond pathetic and so so tragic. What the hell are the parents doing. They turn a blind eye to the culture their kids are falling into. Suppose we can be right on & agree this crime is all the fault of the tory cuts though, rather than the parenting or any effort for individuals to look out for their kids or change the culture they live in. For God's sake.

  6. This happened to me last year , in N Dulwich to my peaugot 306 Again, nothing of value or on display in the car, nothing taken ( i think they either got scared off or realised there was nothing to nick). i managed to bend the door back. To begin with i couldnt believe what a weird way to break into a car!
  7. If you cycle over there, as i do every day it will take you about 25-30 minute to get there, day in, day out, regardless of the traffic jams!
  8. Fantastic idea. Let's all have a huge party! Any excuse really. All the pubs and shops could cater outdoors, etc. It could be amazing! Hopefully the weather will also be decent. lol at all the bitter comments, too, get a grip!
  9. another little piece of Metropolitan Open land moved first to informal hardstanding, then tarmac, then built on.
  10. People bang on about waitrose because they are the best supermarket for quality food, a great shopping experience, pleasant staff etc. I was in the Beckenham one at the weekend and it is just streets ahead of Dog Kennel Sainsbury. Quality produce from their own farms, often, plenty of lovely stuff and they are owned by their staff - as ethical as the co-op i'd say.
  11. My guess is that the Co-op probably don't make much money out of that branch, they can't be bothered to stock it properly and the stuff they do sell is second rate and often old and a bit past it. I wouldn't be surprised if they sold their lease to Waitrose and cashed out of the area.
  12. never liked that shop. the staff were nutters :))

A Waitrose caters for a better class of person though, so maybe they could make the site work where others have failed...
  14. Absolutely a 1000% yes , we do want a Waitrose and one instead of the Co-op would be welcomed by many. Not that fussed about M&S to be honest, it's expensive ready meals that don't fill you up, though i would probably visit it. I guess there's a gap in the market for either a small Simply Food or a Waitrose Local. I've seen lots of discussion about the merits of a new supermarket in LL or E Dulwich in General. Several points to make. 1) The Co-op is awful. I would love to like it but its appallingly run & very overpriced for what you get. 2) The best option is to have the Co-op sell its lease to Waitrose or M&S rather than an altogether new supermarket being built. 3). I totally get the protests that Indy shops might suffer. However, i don't think the local specialist shops need to worry very much. Many of the visits to Waitrose will be from evening trade - none of the local shops are open by the time most people get home from work. Speciality products will still be bought. At the moment i actively avoid the Co-op in Lordship Lane ( I am an SE24 resident). If it was a Waitrose it would definately make my visits to Lordship Lane more frequent - more footfall = better for all shops. however : 4. Catchment & demand. Is it there? There is a well off local population but is it big enough? Dulwich Village is posh , sure, but i think there are only about 10,000 people living in SE21 - hardly enough to sustain a large waitrose - and only a proportion of the people who live in SE23 and SE24 would visit such a store. The core catchment area might not be big enough to sustain a large Waitrose - it's different to Clapham Junction, Fulham, or Gloucester Road, or Earls Court, where there are streets and streets of densely populated unbroken ABC1 demographic. This is perhaps the most important factor which will decide whether we get an "upmarket" supermarket. I personally am very much favour of a Waitrose in place of the Co-op but i wonder whether "4" above may weigh against it.
  15. Co-op is not good with food. It's expensive and often poor quality in East Dulwich.
  16. Lesley Sharp is marrried to the BT Ad ex-husband Gleaves...
  17. Red Witch - Cider, Pernod, Blackcurrant and Liquorice spirit. All in a pint pot. kids in the 1980's were 'ard.
  18. Rosie H - Oh dear, i'm afraid you were had. Hostels for the homeless / in dire need (certainly in London) DONT charge for entry when you turn up like that. It's a shame that this sad case is still scamming hundreds of pounds ( a week?) from well meaning local residents to fuel her desperate drug habit that's killing her. Just read the Herne Hill forum for the saga over in that neck of the woods. It's appalling that this has gone on so long. There are loads of homeless, hard cases around London. All deserve some sort of support and a lot is available nowadays, a plethora of organisations reach out and are effective but the help isn't out of your wallet directly to them. It just goes on more heroin.
