  1. Thanks turns out we don't have TV either but virgin arexsaying it is not an area fault...
  2. Anyone having issues today? We're on st aidans. No Internet at all. 4 day wait for an engineer.
  3. Yep. Reported. Looks like a water main has burst and it's impacting se22 near Peckham Rye Park.
  4. Anyone else got this issue on or near to St Aidan's Road?
  5. I know the people involved here. Fact is that the brickhouse were sent a private email but chose to respond on the Instagram thread. I don't know why they didn't engage privately and just say on the thread that they were discussing it with the customer who complained. We all want our local businesses to succeed. But, if they want to continue getting custom from young families, they have handled this really badly.
  6. Engineer said the practice I described is common. So if you have no Internet at all press for an engineer to come out and see if your line has a noise blocker installed...
  7. Just to be clear. Virgin told us our fault was due to a network issue. We pushed back on this as we have no service, whereas the network issue causes intermittent broadband issues. The Virgin engineer told us the fault was caused by another Virgin engineer blocking our line at the local junction box (boxes that are located on each street). Apparently the engineers routinely inspect these boxes and block lines where there is line noise or the performance is not within recommended limits. They are supposed to tell the impacted customers so the issue can be investigated, but it didn't happen in my case. The engineer who did this also didn't log the issue centrally, so technical support had no idea about it. My advice would be that if you have no internet then this may not be attributable to a network issue, but something specific to your line and you should insist an engineer attends to inspect. I have elevated a complaint about this issue as I think it is unacceptable.
  8. Our broadband has now finally been fixed. The cause... Virgin Media installing a noise blocker on our line at the cable box! You honestly could not make it up. According to the engineer, this is routine if the line is not meeting their spec... Problem is that the engineers do not speak to the technical team, so the technical team don't know a blocker has been installed.
  9. A little more information. I spoke with them three weeks ago. They initially booked in an engineer then I got a text message saying they had cancelled it as it was a network wide fault. I waited a week (still no internet) and spoke with them again. The UK customer services team advised that the broadband should be intermittent with the network fault - not completely off. So it is probably an issue specific to our address. So they acknowledged we needed an engineer and booked one in (another week delay). The engineer is due to come tomorrow so we will see what the issue is. However, if you have no internet I would not accept the advice from the technical team that this is down to an area fault.
  10. We're on St Aidans have had had no broadband for the last few days. Apparently this is down to "line noise"... i.e. a problem somewhere on the network that effectively scrambles the signal. They are estimating 1 week to locate the fault. They have become really unreliable over the past year or so. We were told the main reason is they have too much demand i.e. they have taken on too many customers. Consequently, they are having to upgrade their systems.
  11. Saied has now finished the transformation of our garden. We're really happy with the result and would happily recommend him and his team. thanks!
  12. You'll need a solicitor who will draw up a contract and transfer of part into your property's title. It should be straightforward if your neighbour does not have a mortgage. If they do then they will need consent.
  13. Another recommendation for saied, who is working diligently on our mess of a rear garden. He has shifted 9 tonnes of rubble so far and it's really taking shape.
  14. I've been told multiple times that they are aiming to fix the issue by 18 May. It is a capacity issue and they need to upgrade a centre in Catford or somewhere to cope. We shall see...
  15. The tyres on each axle should have the same wear. All 4 tyres should be the same identical model. Some people alternate the tyres from front to back and vice versa when the car is serviced in order to even out the wear. I would not scrimp on tyres (or brakes) as, obviously, they are the only thing that connect the car to the road! I use Event Tyres (no connection) - https://www.event-tyres.co.uk/ They provide a good (and v competitive) mobile fitting service.
  16. Planning Permission is usually withdrawn because the council (informally) tells the applicant they will not get it and the applicant does not want an adverse decision on file as this impacts the value of the site and future applications.
  17. Another recommendation for saied. Our garden was a jungle until he had spent a day in it! Best recent investment we have made on the house. We just need the weather to improve now...
  18. James I also thought that closing Underhill would cause major issues, but it hasn't. I live on St Aidan's and we have had Thames Water digging up the road since March and there are traffic restrictions in place. However, the traffic flow around the area has been fine. Infact, more than fine as whilst residents can still access the area it has stopped a lot of traffic trying to take shortcuts. I haven't seen any major increase in the traffic on the main roads as a result. Overall the whole areas is a lot calmer and I thought I would never say this but I may be sad to see Thames Water leave!
  19. St Aidan's will be open for access but closed at the junction of Underhill IIRC
  20. I live on St Aidan's. This cat is the chattiest cat I have ever met and he's very sweet. However, he must drive his owners mental which I why I suspect they lock him out from time to time! He seems well fed and has had his fur de-matted - not a sign of being abused! Basically he just craves any form of human interaction. When my wife strokes him in the morning he follows her down to the bus stop...
  21. Your're fine. I cycle on Peckham Rye every day and overtake cars going down the hill! I also drive it regulary. The cameras still seem to be set for a 30mph limit. That's assuming they have film in too, which I doubt. You would know if you had been caught as there is a very bright double flash - hard to miss really. I actually think the 20mph limit on that road and Sydenham Hill is dangerous as it encourages risk taking because people get frustrated. I get it on side roads - no issue with that. However, crawling along a wide main road at 20mph with clear running traffic seems barmy to me and it's bad for the environment! The whole thing is pointless anyway as there is no way the cross southwark 20mph zone will be enforced.
  22. We have loft life finishing our loft at the moment. Easy to deal with and we're happy with their work. It has been done in around 4 weeks.
  23. My sympathies PB. Noise/disruption is not a planning issue, but you do have potential legal remedies that you should think about exploring given the length of time the project is taking. See the case here as an (albeit extreme) example: http://www.bailii.org/ew/cases/EWCA/Civ/2011/804.html You might also want to check to see if you have coverage for your costs of getting advice through the legal expenses cover in your home insurance.
  24. If our experience is anything to go buy, there is just a stand off between: a) Buyers who are concerned about current house prices and over stretching themselves to buy at the top of the market; and b) Sellers who have seen neighbours' houses go for significant amounts and want to cash in themselves. But times have moved on - perhaps sellers are not being realistic about their asking prices. There is just a disconnect between a) and b) at the moment. Many (like us) have lived in ED for a while. When we were looking in 2010 you could get a decent size 3 bed on upland road for around ?550K, now the asking price is around ?850K and asking price for 4 beds can be over ?1m! We bought something a little smaller and want to upsize. However, we just won't pay the asking prices for a larger house as we think that prices are too high and are bound to adjust at some stage soon: things can happen very quickly. Just the stamp duty is an enormous amount. The solution? Well, we are having our loft done. There are five loft conversions going on down our road, so a lot of people seem to be having the same idea! The fact is that if you dropped your price a buyer like us may be tempted to take a punt and buy, so you may get more interest.
  25. There is one just off the old kent road about 10m from ED by car - google southwark refuse collection and you should be able to find it.
