  1. There is so much advice and support out there for starting breast feeding, but very little information about the best way to finish! I am still demand feeding my 12 month old 3-4 bf a day, a morning and night feed and then 1-2 feeds during the day or sometimes a few more comfort feeds when teething etc. I have loved feeding him right from the beginning but feel it is time to stop, mainly because my periods still haven't come back we we are thinking about siblings for him! I am also going back to work next month. He is a great eater and fairly chunky so I am not worried about the nutritional side of it and he happily drinks from a cup. I am looking for a bit of advice about the best way to stop, drop feeds (though they are variable from day to day)or go cold turkey? and what do you do instead? The boob is such a curer of all ills that I am worrying about what replaces it when upset/ in pain / tired etc etc and how do you cope with the shirt pulling / back arching etc that is usually a request for a feed?! Any suggestions gratefully received, I am feeling a bit emotional about the whole thing!
  2. Wow. I am / was in my previous life too though not quite at your level, but have dived alot all over the world. I am a fair weather diver though, at my happiest in a short wetsuit! I genuinely enjoy looking at the fish on the octonauts, or in the horniman aquarium, reminds me of lots of great times underwater. Hope I'll get back to it one day. Have you dived recently?
  3. ............Scuba diving is watching the Octonauts and identifying marine life. Oh how life has changed!
  4. We are doing exactly what happened in our house for mothers day (our first I must add!).... NOTHING, bitter, me, never!
  5. Thanks, think I might go with Davina as my fat 9 month old doesn't yet know what her legs are for so don't think she'll be giving me a work out any time soon! Hubby works away from home alot so a DVD that can be done during nap time / evenings is ideal.
  6. Anyone have any reccomendations for a good cardio exercise DVD?
  7. She is a terrible napper too (today she had 2 x 30 min sleeps all day) but maybe the new skill thing is it as she has just started sitting up unsupported in the past few days. We'll she how tonight goes!
  8. For the first 8 months of my little ones life she was awake every 45mins- 2hrs overnight. We co-slept from her first night wake and so she fed to sleep whenever she wanted to. Two weeks ago I realised I was at breaking point with exhaustion so we decided a change needed to be made. Having tried some of the gentler methods without success we opted to try controlled crying, allowing her a dream feed at 11pm and again if she woke anytime after 5am (depite the fact that she is going great guns with BLW and so probably doesn't need night feeding at all!) For the first 5 days it worked brilliantly with the longest she cried being 15 mins on night one and after that grizzling for no more than 5 mins and the settling to sleep and by night 5 she went 7-5 without waking, fed at 5 and then slept until 7. So we thought we had it cracked..........we went away for the long weekend and she was fine with only a few brief night wakings. We have been home 2 days and things have got mugh worse, she is now screaming at full volume every 45 mins but when I got in to shussh her I get big smiles. Last night she screamed on and off for 2 hrs despite me settling her every 10 mins or so, eventually at 2.30am I cracked and brought her into bed with me, at which point she decided she didn't want to sleep at all and cooed, giggled and stroked my face until 4am! So what I am wondering is... is it normal when using cc to get regression? There doesn't seem to be anything else wrong with her (no sign of teeth etc) so has she just worked out she needs to shout louder / scream to get attention? Will it get better as I am not sure I can cope with the screaming or her feeding and playing all night!
  9. I have a nearly 7 month old girl and am fairly new to the area too so always up for coffee!
  10. Is this something I could bring my six month old baby to or is it really for bigger ones? Thanks
  11. I agree your dates look fine to me. I started the NCT intensive classes a month before my dute date and managed to fit in both sessions and still have my baby 2 weeks early! I think it is best to do the classes as close as possible to giving birth as then it is all fresh in your mind and feels more relevant.
  12. I have been thinking about this too, so a well timed thread! Is the tripp trap much better than the Baby Dan highchair which looks almost identical but is half the price?
  13. We are off down under with our 5 month old in a few weeks and I was wondering if anyone had any tips on managing jet lag in the baby and surviving the long haul flight. Thanks!
  14. thanks for tips. think i will buy some as i am terrible with glasses and wouldn't want to loose or break a borrowed pair!
  15. We are soon off to sunnier climes on holiday with our 4 month old. I was wondering what peoples thoughts on baby sunglasses were, as in are they necessary if you are using a hat, do they stay on, and which brands are best. They seem a bit pricey given that I usually buy my own sunnies in Sainsburys! Thanks
  16. My baby is 4 months and loves the cinema, she is transfixed by the big screan and all the noise and usually sleeps better than at home! Everyone merrily breastfeeds away in the cinema and you don't have to take the baby out if it cries, that is kind of the point of the baby only showings I think. Often at the one in Brixton the aisles are packed with crying babies being rocked! Prams are parked outside the screen so I find a sling easier. As far as I am aware watch with baby is only on thurs at peckham unless they have changed it this week, and it is on a friday at the Ritzy in Brixton.
