  1. My friend had a similar experience with a different company. Seems like a popular scam! They know there is very little you can do as you usually need to move by a certain time.
  2. You need to consider how long you will stay in your property, as money is not always the only thing to consider. Quality of life is worth a great deal. How do you live? Do you entertain a lot? Are you considering getting an au pair?
  3. It's a shame you have both had bad experiences, I found the food good and plentiful, and although admittedly the service was slightly haphazard, it was very friendly. Maybe they are becoming too popular. Do they still have such a long menu? It may be time to cut the choice and focus on the most popular dishes.
  4. I haven't yet bought the book, but Helena has given me very valuable advice on which (affordable) wine to buy for events I have organised. She has always been spot on. Good Luck Helena.
  5. There is also a badminton club on Thursday evenings - 8-10pm up at Haberdasher's sports grounds in Nunhead.
  6. Hello Telegraph. I'm not sure who you were asking, but I can answer for both of us. I'm afraid we do not do after school lessons. We are still looking for a German teacher, if anyone is interested. Starting after Christmas.
  7. Hello I am looking for a German teacher to teach at our school language club every Friday morning between 8-9am during term time. The school is Edmund Waller Primary School in Telegraph Hill. The club started in May and has five other teachers (teaching French Italian and Spanish). Our German teacher is leaving to do her teaching qualifications. You would be paid ?30 per lesson. There are about 20 children between in the ages of 6-11 years old. Please PM me if you are interested or would like further information. Thanks
  8. Try Betty, she's really good and not at all expensive - 07514947992
  9. I finally got to go to ToastED the other day. I have to say the food was delicious, very accomplished and unusual, and the staff were very friendly. However, I have a real hatred of menus that mention an ingredient in the description that turns out to be no more than a garnish. I ordered turbot with kohlrabi and quinoa thinking it sounded like a well rounded meal - it was ?23.50 after all. When my meal arrived I could literally count the grains of quinoa sprinkled on my fish. Luckily I had eaten tea with my kids earlier. I mean, how much would it cost to offer a side of quinoa? Not that I am a big fan of having to pay extra to have a balanced meal either. Am I asking too much? Am I behind the times?
  10. This does not include any fee for work during construction, but even so, I'd say it's really cheap.
  11. I finally managed to make it to this little bar/restaurant on Blenheim Grove. Good decor, delicious food, slightly uncomfortable bar stools. Another local restaurant to add to my list. I wish you good luck. Next stop ToastED.
  12. I'd recommend MarcJB of Bimbo Jones. Local, very professional and a lovely guy too. Very experienced and has all his own kit, including some pretty funky lights. His email is [email protected]
  13. I was walking down Rye Lane from Nigel Road today and spotted a good looking leather bag in the window of a lovely looking building with (slightly too) inconspicuous signage. Popped in to have a look. There was a huge range of beautifully designed handmade leather bags and other really great accessories. Spotted a lovely leather satchel, fully lined and pocketed, for ?45! Sadly my files wouldn't fit into it, so she offered to make me one to fit! She is also going to lengthen the strap as I like it wear a strap diagonally across me. All for ?55. I could hardly believe my luck. It's called Jaark, just at the top of Rye Lane on your right. Definitely worth a visit.
  14. My usual physiotherapist, Joanna - who I have recommended on here previously, has injured her wrist, so she gave me the details of her friend, Betty. I have to say I was equally impressed with her. She has extremely strong precise fingers and pinpointed all my aches, some I didn't even know I had! She gave me the most amazing face massage too, as I had broken my cheekbone last year. I would thoroughly recommend her. She is really good value for money too. Her number is 07514947992. No crank calls please. Joanna mentioned that she had received some dodgy midnight calls after I recommended her on here.
  15. Not one to let a new restaurant go untried, especially one with such good reviews, both here on the forum and on Yell, I dragged my husband along last night to have a meal. We were certainly not disappointed. Family business, very friendly, seems very kid friendly too. Interesting use of space to accommodate the kitchen under the dining area (a more powerful extract might be an idea). The menu was ambitiously lenghthy and took us a while to choose. We decided to go tapas style and went for dumplings, beetroot soup with dumplings (when in Poland....), potato salad with herring (sadly the home smoked fish was finished - something to try next time), and beans with a tomato sauce and polish sausage. We had expected to choose a few more later, but the portions were much larger than we had anticipated, so we didn't. All delicious. My favourite, to my surprise, was the herring dish. It's bring your own bottle, so the bill only came to ?20! Heartily recommend Edyta's. I wish them well.
  16. Red Devil is right. From 30th May this year for 3 years you can get a 6m long rear extension measured from the rear wall you are extending from (8m if a detached house) under permitted development rights, unless one of your adjacent neighbours objects, then it has to go through the planning process. Looks to me like we are going to have a lot of feuding neighbours and ugly extensions around in the near future!
  17. Have to admit, I LOVED the idea of calling it 'Crushed and Devalued'. So insider EDForum. Also liked the idea of borrowing from its history. Well researched. The New Green and Blue also has to be one of my faves. Ironically pretentious.
  18. The Fat Goose - bit too Heston? The Lord's table - bit too Biblical? Fun competition though. Looking forward to it opening. Any opening date?
  19. Martin Wanendeya of Ten Dental in Clapham is good - private again, but local-ish. Ten Dental 10 The Pavement Clapham London SW4 0HY 0207 622 7610 www.tendental.com
  20. You should get in touch with Dean Robinson - [email protected]. We all use him in Telegraph Hill. Sorry, gave you an old email address - it's [email protected].
  21. I'd say that if you want a bog standard extension and don't really care about design then just use a builder. If you are spending most of your savings on the project I would get professional advice. Architects can offer a lot more than just a drawing service for planning submission.
  22. Hello I have one for sale. Some wear and tear, but still works fine. Will accept offers. I can send more photos, but can't attach due to file size.
  23. You could try Loclann O'Grady - 07769256532
