  1. Thanks for replying, porlock - this sounds wonderful. Definitely going to book an appointment with Pauline now!
  2. Only have direct experience of Pickwicks, Winkworths and Haart: Haart wins hands down. Pickwicks' service was just shocking. Really terrible. A shame, as I would prefer to recommend the independent...
  3. Hi, would people say Shingo and Pauline are equally good? Who would you recommend for someone with very fine, long hair who is always a little nervous about anything too drastic...?!!!
  4. DON'T use Winkworth's - they've reduced me to tears on occasion! They are managing the property for our landlord but never respond to any of our issues, even boiler ones. They don't seem to really do anything, in my opinion! We didn't rent through them in the end, but Daisy Lets seemed really nice when we almost got something through them. You'll be supporting a local business, too!
  5. Don't we already have a huge Sainsbury's just down the road and plenty of smaller-sized stores represented (Londis, Iceland, Co-Op, Sainsbury's Local - catering for a wide range of budgets)? Let's continue to help ED stand out from the crowd and instead encourage more independent business! (P.S. this is going to cause a middle class shockwave...but I think Waitrose is overrated!)
  6. I think the "Since we've no place to go" line is the clue to whether people are enjoying all this snow or not! ;-)
  7. Thanks, everyone! I will check on the bus stop but, if no help, will assume Zone 3 :-)
  8. Hi Sorry, wasn't sure exactly where to put this. I was just wondering whether any of you very well-informed people on this forum could shed light on exactly which zone I live in? I am on Heber Road, so between ED (zone 2) and Forest Hill (zone 3, I think). I'm not sure if it matters so much if you travel by bus though... Sorry - even I am embarrassed by the unexcitingness of this post :-$ Thanks!
  9. I find the 176 a bit stressful at peak times, too. It's often so crowded that a few buses go past me before I get on. Even if I wake up and leave earlier than a sane person should, it still takes me a good hour door to door (office is Holborn), sometimes more. The traffic along Camberwell Green/Walworth Rd is shocking. I used to live in the suburbs and I'm loving how regular the buses are in comparison, but I can't believe my commute now takes as long (from zone 2), if not longer! So maybe something like the DLR model would be good. In the meantime, more buses, please! Saying that, if you can get a seat, it's a nice way to settle down with a good book :-) If you're looking for speed into central London, though, the Brixton/Elephant routes are probably best! ( Phew, can't believe I just wrote so much about bloody buses...that's what south-east London does to you - turns everyone into a bus spotter! ;-) )
  10. Oh, if this is still running, please put me down for... 2,641 and 1,929 Sorry if these have already been taken! And, by the way, what a great idea. About to make my donation to the hospice now...
  11. At the moment I am reaching a state of reverie while listening to Eddie Gale's sublime 'The Rain'. Brilliance AND relevance ;-) It's on Spotify, check it out.
  12. Personally, I'm really pleased about this superhighway! I'm a nervous on-road cyclist and, I know it sounds silly, but a clearly designated strip of road would make me feel much safer (whether it's all in my head or not - it worked a treat when I cycled in Holland). Then again, I agree that the route they're proposing doesn't seem to be the best and could potentially cause more traffic and queues on the road. Lastly, I'd also like to big up Southwark's free cycle training. I know you get offered something similar at school but I almost feel that all adults should go through it again...it's amazing how many bad habits you can pick up and not even realise. It also gave me a lot more confidence...
