‘Beauty & The Feast is coming to dulwich, opening day is Saturday 19th July. They have another space in purley which is really lovely! They do afternoon teas and lots of other food/treats as well as events. I wanted to share as we love the one in purley so looking forward to popping in to dulwich. Address

  2. That looks like a dahlia tuber.

The clumpy, swollen shape with sprouting white roots is typical of dahlia tubers that have overwintered in the ground. They often look a bit mutant or alien, especially when several tubers fuse together or grow in odd directions.

If you dug it up from your garden and it’s not slimy or rotten, it’s probably still viable. You can pot it up or plant it directly in the ground once the risk of frost is gone. Keep the knobbly end (where the stem was) just at or slightly below the surface and water it in.

If you’re unsure, you can leave it somewhere warm and bright for a bit and see if shoots appear. That’ll confirm it’s a living dahlia and not some rogue tuber trying to cause confusion.

Apologies @Dulwich Born And Bred this is all so confusing - I had no idea EDF now has a Facebook page.

The fake East Dulwich group has thousands of members and has now added Herne Hill to their title. If you look up members, the admin team will come up and it’s run by I think Brazilian  admins such as Samual Oliveira, and they own East Dulwich Cleaners and East Dulwich Builders.

The real EDF recently set up by Joe on FB is new and members are lower and the bio states it’s connected to this group.

Likewise if you check out the admin on my East Dulwich Mums, you’ll see we are not the same people that run the other groups.
All the information is on the groups when you read the bio and check the admin list.

Some Facebook groups I am in are, or  have become,  private groups, because there are  so many trolls on FB.

Including a group set up to discuss birds 🙄

There are probably downsides to that as the admin has to approve all prospective members, who have to agree to certain rules I think, and I'm not sure it's failsafe. It's certainly time consuming for the admin.

But probably less time consuming than having to pre approve all posts?

Also, I wonder whether it should be made clear on the "new" EDF Facebook page that the "old" one had no connection with the real EDF?

PS  Thank you Joe for all your time in doing all this, on here and on the FB one. It's much appreciated.

My East Dulwich Mums group is private and we have three admins so we all just pop on and off the group throughout the day to approve posts and it has been working successfully since we first started the group.
We do give a lot of members pre approval who have proven to be trustworthy and genuine.

We also vet members on sign up to try and weed out the spammers. Obviously now and again one will slip through the net but for the most part having the group private and with posts all requiring approval has meant it’s pretty much well run with minimal drama.

I wonder if someone can prove that East Dulwich Mums is also a proxy for the group pretending to be East Dulwich Forum. Is someone able to name the cleaning company involved as this is pretty underhand stuff and I am not sure I would want to engage them in cleaning services.....

The link is showing the real link to the East Dulwich Forum that Joe on here set up.

East Dulwich Mums is my group and is not a spin off from this group. I have no connection to the other EDF Facebook group and nor do I promote any cleaning services. My group is very well run thank you and your information is incorrect.

No, that is the new Facebook group that the admin on here has set up.
Joe does need to turn the settings on that group to pre approval for all posts as there is a lot of posts on there that isn’t relevant.

  5. I know but the confusion is this newer version of the EDF was probably why he could keep the name since he set the group up whilst the older version of the EDF was running.
I’m assuming he had to add on Herne Hill to get around the EDF name and reinstate his group.

    As per this:

    Wow.

    Roaming wildly in the woods.
Is there history of this owner being dangerous or out of control?

Dogs can be kept with certification and yes - should be on lead in public places but having an off lead early morning walk in the woods?

It’s supposed to be muzzled AND on a lead in a public place and it wasn’t. That is the law, so she did right reporting it.

  7. The oldest business still operating in East Dulwich SE22 is The Plough, located at 381 Lordship Lane. Established in 1791, it has been serving the community continuously since then. The original building was replaced in 1858 by the current structure.

Another longstanding establishment is Bells, The Dulwich Kitchen & Bathroom Company, an independent business run by the Bell family since 1919. It is considered one of the oldest businesses on Lordship Lane.

Additionally, Dulwich Public Baths, located at 2b Crystal Palace Road, opened on 25 June 1892. It is London’s oldest public baths to have remained in continuous operation.

These establishments have been integral parts of the East Dulwich community for over a century.

The guy running Mr Simms (apologies, I don't know your name) has a collection going, he's going to ask the family if flowers are acceptable or donate to charity.

If anyone wishes to donate, go see him

Thank you for this, I’ve passed the message on to others. That is a lovely gesture. The owner at Mr Simms is called David.

  9. Hello

    Hello everyone,

I have some very sad news to share. Many of you will know Akif from Dulwich Dry Cleaners on Lordship Lane, and I thought you might like to be aware that the shop will be closed soon for his funeral.

Tragically, Akif has passed away from injuries sustained in a vicious dog attack.

With all this talk of the bygone days of ED... I just noticed on my profile that I joined the forum on this day - 26th September 2007! A lot has changed in the that time. Trying to think what hasn't... The EDT perhaps?

I joined the same year and month as you. 18th September. I remember thinking how amazing the forum was back then, I met so many lovely via this forum. I do feel the forum has changed too with the originals all moving out.

I never understood the appeal of EDT😆

  11. Springers on East Dulwich Grove was considered the poshest eatery back in the day. You got your meat and two vegs there and the owners were so lovely. I’ve very fond memories of Springers.

I was underaged at the time but I used to frequent this place with my best friend. It was the weirdest pub going but they had a live singer who was amazing.

  12. Babysitting Services Available in Dulwich and Dulwich Village

I am posting on behalf of my mum, Susie, who was born and raised in Dulwich. Over the years, she has provided loving care to many local children as a nanny and foster carer. Now retired, she is offering babysitting services and comes highly recommended by local mums.

Susie is DBS checked and provides excellent references. She is available for babysitting within the SE22 postcode and bordering areas, as she prefers to walk or cycle to her engagements.

If you need a reliable babysitter for day or evening, please send me a private message, and I will be happy to share her contact details.

    Best regards.
