  1. There are only two of us at home so I would expect a family to fill a bin a lot quicker than us but it would take more than a month for our bin to be full. And I know that there are some things in our bin that with a bit more effort could be cleaned or segregated and put in the recycling. I can understand that someone using disposable nappies will have a full bin but, otherwise, I really cannot imagine what there is in such large quantities that cannot be recycled. I would, genuinely, be interested in hearing from someone who does fill their bin every week as to what it contains, if only because there may be potentially recyclable items that Southwark have not made provision for.

I'm glad you bring that to everyone's attention. I do hope the link between alcohol and higher crime levels in that location is taken into account when the extension to the Adventure Bar's licence to 2am on Sundays is considered.
  3. Good idea. If you've got a camera take a picture and email Southwark (otherwise they won't know about it)

They don't stop any 4x4 speeding - although they may cause the driver to be distracted and therefore dangerous - they provide a lovely test track for all those vehicles designed for furrowed farm tracks, and make life much harder for cyclists.
  5. When you are ringing up for insurance quotes be aware that some insurers zone risk areas by individual street and some by postcode. This is why you can get a huge range on quotes (and some blank refusals) for the same house. If there is no known subsidence in your street it is worth ringing around to find an insurer that considers risk on an individual street basis.

  7. I would like to support DJKQ's advice that complaints should be made to the licence holder as named on the licence, not to an unverified email address. If Davide is acting on the licence holder's behalf (as his agent in legal terms) then he should state exactly what his relationship is. I do not understand why he is not prepared to do so on this forum. I had endeavoured to give Davide the benefit of the doubt and hoped that he was acting in good faith in his attempts to resolve a failure to comply with the licence (a failure evidenced by contributors to this thread) but a number of his posts appear to infer he was doing something constructive to resolve the issue - with an attempt to gain the moral high ground - and yet he will not respond to direct questions about what that something is, either the solution, or the number of an amended licence if such a thing exists. For anyone who is in any way directly affected, but who does not want to contact DH directly (I can't imagine any possibility of any untoward behaviour from DH but I know that when you have suffered from an organisation's failure to comply with the law it can be difficult to draw a sensible line in your head as to what they might do in response), I am glad to support DJKQ's statement that you can contact the licensing authority directly. Whilst I would not wish to be as passionate as DJKQ in her approach to this matter, I would say that this is not just a matter for those immediately affected. The nature of East Dulwich as a community is affected by the compliance with those licensing regulations that are in place to allow all of us to enjoy our environment. I would like DH to comply absolutely with all the conditions of their licence and then I would hope that as many people as possible would attend their public events.

It would seem a good idea to contact Trading standards and your local council. Spraying a damaged roof sounds like papering over the cracks. If you are swayed by the '15 year guarantee' check out who is providing the guarantee. If it's the company that is doing the work I think we can all work out what it's worth.
  9. PPF Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > DJKillaQueen , the license has been updated to > reflect the clubs's activities! > > What else can we do for you? > > Davide Dear Davide (PPF), please would you confirm the licence number and the date that it was last renewed (just the month/year is enough) so that we can have no doubt whatsoever of what the licence conditions are. You said in an earlier post that you had found a solution and were working on it - do you mean that you have just had the licence amended in the last few days? If so, it would be very helpful if you would provide a link. If that isn't the 'solution' you referred to, what happened to the 'solution'? Thanks
  10. Dear Davide, I think it would be really helpful if you would let us know what the solution you are working on is, if only in principle. I don't think that DJKQ is being petulant; I think she's just trying to make sure that DH comply with the law. Continued breach of a condition without complaint might be used as an argument to widen the licence at a later date. It would be such a shame if the flouting of the conditions on the Folk nights led to an extension such that the problems that the OP referred to were allowed under a renewed licence. But, I do believe that everyone should be given a second chance and perhaps there was a genuine misunderstanding by DH of what the licence conditions said, so if you would be so kind as to explain how you intend to resolve this issue that would be much appreciated.

If the flat (and the common parts e.g. roof) you're buying is in a good enough condition to survive the next ten years with no repair full employment with good salaries. (Be very careful of the retired on low incomes- they'll tug at your heart strings while you pay all the bills)
  12. Oh dear, apologies Luc, it looks like I may have set off a few comments that perhaps could have been toned down a little. I said the bit about a possible customer contamination in case you got pushed to say what greengrocer it came from and that wouldn't have been fair on the retailer (if they're any good they would have chosen the best looking in the market on the day). I would say though that some food grade steriliser (you know which one I mean if you've had kids) doesn't go amiss in the washing water when it comes to grapes as it's difficult to scrub every one of the little blighters.
  13. I do hope that elderflower does set up her own branch of the WI and makes it truly inclusive of the demographic of East Dulwich. Then I'll be happy to drive my 92 year old mother-in-law over for the first session and as she does have a vagina (NO, LET'S NOT THINK ABOUT THAT), she can let us know if she feels it's relevant.
  14. I always wash fruit unless it says it's washed and comes in a plastic box. The producer and shopkeepers may be scrupulous but the last customer to pick them up and have a look may have a personal hygiene problem. (He/she may have checked every bunch in the box). Also worth remembering where the fruit comes from - if it's apples from Kent the chances are any bugs that the pickers passed on may be ones you can tolerate. If it's fruit from overseas it may be worth checking your vaccinations are up to date. Not worth the risk with kids.

I didn't think women liked to be identified simply by having a pair of tits or a vagina. I've just looked up the WI main website and it talks a lot about a purpose of education. Now call me old fashioned but I thought that meant teaching you something you didn't already know and I'd be happy to bet that most of the women attending EDWI didn't know how to make bunting before. So I can't see how that misses the point. Not all women want to be childless all their lives so it might come in handy one day. And maybe it was fun. Further up this thread it says that they use the bunting at their cake stall so it looks like it had a specific purpose. Perhaps elderflower should indeed start up her own branch specifically for childless women who intend to remain barren and who don't like doing happy things.
  16. elderflower Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > There are millions or things you can teach people > to sew that hold far more relevance than > bunting... starting on my own person a purse, bag, > hair band, corsage, skirt, t shirt... I think I might be taking an unhealthy interest in this but isn't bunting the stuff you put up at school fairs and junior sports events (triangles of material on a string) whereas I thought (OK, so I looked it up on Google) that a corsage is some sort of real or fake flower thing for prom queens and brides. That seems a lot more middle class and pointless to me than a bit of decoration for the local primary school sports day.

I'd guess there might be a few divorced Dads faced by that fear on their weekend of "I need a shepherd/princess/pumpkin costume for Monday" who might appreciate the odd sewing lesson. Not a problem in this household (yet?). Maybe it's the mums who spend their days dealing with the perpetrators/victims of knife and gun crime who might want something less edgy on their odd evening off that decide what the EDWI get up to.
  18. Dear Ridgley. I would just like to say well done for coming onto the forum and sending quite so many people into a spin by your mass postings today. You really do seem to have had some fun.

Dear Sue, in order to prevent any further discussion and before poor DJKillaQueen bursts a blood vessel please would you ask Nick (who I assume you know) for confirmation of the licence number that he claims provides the late licence and then we will be able to see if it is the same licence that DJKillaQueen has already provided the link to or not. If it is a new licence I will happily insert the link for you. From what I have seen it would appear that DJKillaQueen is correct.
  20. Sue Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > As the owner of DHFC has said > > HERE > > there is a late licence till 1am on Fridays and > Saturdays. Hi Sue, this link just takes us to another thread on the ED forum. Could you provide a link to the late licence on the Southwark licensing register - the number will do. That will clear up this bit of the argument on this thread. Otherwise, I do think there is a problem if the licensing terms are being breached, even if the folk music doesn't cause any specific complaint. I don't think in licensing terms it is possible to specify an exclusion for certain music types - it's too difficult to define so the rules are the same for all types of music - but the fact that the terms have been breached regularly but rarely complained of could be used later as an argument to broaden the licensing terms.
  21. I think the primary problem with the junction of Barry and Underhill is the position of the pedestrian crossing such that drivers focus their attention on that rather than any drivers emerging from the side road.
  22. Heh, I think everyone's got a bit heated on this so I'll try and bring it back a bit. I live a lot more than 5 seconds from the Adventure Bar, and it's not every weekend, but it's often enough that the designated driver has left his/her car near my house and the drunken passengers vocalise their walk back down our side street. It wouldn't be so bad if there was ambient noise but it's dead quiet here otherwise so their voices cut through the night waking us up. And sometimes they puke up on the way, or have a laugh smacking all the wing mirrors on their way back to the car. If it's a weekend we grumble and go back to sleep - yes we were young once - but the days after Thursday and Sunday will be school nights come September and it's not fair on the kids. Maybe you've not noticed but there's a lot of them round here.
