See me after school. 'SEE ME AFTER SCHOOL'? I think your IP ought to be logged and your conduct investigated. Borderline paedophilia of the highest order! Seriously, stop bouncing kiddies off your lap you social inbred and shiveringly sick individual.
  2. LESSER DULWICHENS (as you're pitifully known to all of us) getting all defensive and ars*y? Quelle Surprise. 50 years from now you might have a Waitrose. Just don't go stinking out mine. UNDERSTOOD?
  3. RosieH Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Is Sydders not Benicio del Toro in disguise? Infinitely better looking, trust me. That's why I live in Sydders rather than in Lesser Dulwich!

Do you think I'd also have learnt how to spell the somewhat basic 'aah'? Or should I content myself with sesquipedalian? You may look it up! Dismissed. Bless! SS

The white working-class/BME chavs of Lesser Dulwich love a good Iceland Turkey Twizzler! And there're only 4 astericks required in f**k off; you thick pleb Such anger in one so young and insignificant! You have my pity. If only you'd paid more heed in lessons you wouldn't be so anti the world. It's not the world's fault you've amounted to nothing... As always, dismissed, C2DEs...this is why you live in Lesser Dulwich. Poor you (literally and metaphorically)! SS
  6. If it follows the natural order of things 'ArtVandely' then expect a chav temple to all that is gaudy/poor quality 'Nando's' to open in Lesser Dulwich tout de suite. I'd imagine you'll all be somehwat cook-a-hoop. Peasants. Although there's one in Camberwell I hear? 'Tis but a short 176 ride for you Lesser Dulwichites?! I'd suggest the train but we all know how phenomenally poor the rail connections are for you lot down there.... We, meanwhile, shall content ourselves with our soon-to-be Waitrose AND our M&S Simply Food...oh woe are we!!?? Can we have your Iceland?:))
  7. What utter poppycock John K! Sydders has been by turns partly in Kent and Surrey. I assure you that even in dates that precede the all-pervasive postcode nobody from Sydders would have been envious of East (or should that be Lesser?) Dulwich. As previous, Sydders was and will be again posh. Lesser Dulwich was and remains the area that the skivvies who work in service in posh Dulwich Village and Sydenham Hill live. Whether you like it or not. Postcode envy 'Jah Lush'? Nobody is envious of Lesser Dulwich; not even those who reside in Pong! Or even those wretched souls in Upper Norwood (Crystal Palace). West Dulwich is another matter! Or should that be called Dulwich Village? Them's the facts chap/ess. Live with it. Dismissed.
  8. There's a difference between not much and none at all Keef?
  9. We've got plenty to be smug about. 'Sydders' - a term that seems to be gathering pace/loyalty/buy-in was originally meant to be somewhat ironic. Think Totters for Totteridge, Putters for Putney etc. Twickers etc - you get it? Ideas well above our station! But I like it and I see it with increasing regularity over on STF. It was meant to be tongue-in-cheek about the ghastly High St we have. We have a very long way to go to compete with ED in this regard [High St ambience] and we're light years away from other more celebrated postcodes! But we're getting there; about as slowly as British Rail did! I think we're acutely aware of how dire the first impressions of Sydders are when you travel through the High St but if nothing else at least some opinions might be being changed as to what the overall area is like. Very, very posh in large parts and as rough as Catford/Peckham in others. There's not much in the way of middle-ground.
  10. I've kept my powder dry a little here. Did any of you take The Times last Friday? Page 6 of bricks & Mortar; 'Southeast London's boom street'. Yep, good old Sydders. I'll cut&paste a little extract*. As for the Middle Class Pub thread Keef that was shall we say 'lively' (pre The Dolphin days I hasten to add) and was even referenced in a Time Out article for it's 'peevish tone' - Time Out did a focus on Sydders and it was mostly complimentary. Bar the High St which they, along with Susan Emmett from The Times thought made Sydders 'unlovely'. OUCH, but fair comment. * Large double-fronted Victorian villas, the sort that that are often left to crumble in less affluent neighbourhoods, have been selling for sums of up to ?1.6M since the start of the year...there are other signs of gentrification... I suggest you read it in it's entirety. Surprisingly though I think some of the streets in and around Sydenham Hill are our best. Some of those properties/streets are large family homes with jaw-dropping views and prices to match! Cator Road (the subject of the article) is a treasure though.
  11. You're probably right gigirl. Re-reading my initial post I might have denigrated ED. That wasn't my intention so apologies to anyone who will take offence. I was more hoping to explain that Sydders is not as many would believe. Location, Location, Location had a bit on us a few years back and based solely on the High St these 2 guys ran for the hills [literally as they preferred Upper Norwood with it's 'Westow Triangle']...and I wouldn't blame them. Get off the High St and most are really surprised that it's not Hackney/Tottenham etc - as you might be forgiven for thinking on first inspection! I've no idea what the % mix is for ED. I was mainly going on the MD of Waitrose's comments. The problem with census info is it's fairly out of date. It's done once a decade and the next one is, well, next year. IF - and looking at the changes in ED this past decade I see no reason to think you wouldn't - there are enough ABC1s then you've got a good chance. There are other demographic indicators that retailers can apply but Govt. figures tend to be their first port of call.

I actually laughed out loud when they brought 5 chips in a ramekin to me for the princely sum of roughly 3 golden nuggets. Daylight effing robbery. The disdain they meted out (or tried to) when I told them I'd not be paying convinced me I was a mug for giving it so many chances these past couple of years!
  13. That's what I mean about it all being relative Keef. I went into the Woodman twice for the roasts and thought my Mother could do better. And she's a terrible cook. As for the place what do you think will happen to it? I hear it's again reopening? It needs to put a marker in the sand. IF it wants the trade from, say, Halifax Street/Longton Avenue and the similar ones off Kirkdale or Dartmouth Hill then it needs to make it clear that that's their target market and 'gastro up' or whatever the term is. If they want those from *ahem* other streets then pitch if for the Monday night Sky-Sports drinkers who like a good session. It's always fallen between both stools, to me. Anyway, way off-topic so apologies to the OP.
  14. Think you're probably about right there Brendan. Though seemingly they've got a new chef so there must be some skill into getting the food out; not that you could tell if you ever had the mis-fortune to eat there. It used to be a real beauty. Darts in the snug (now a private dining area!!??) etc. I'm all for poncification if the food merits the price tag. And it doesn't even begin to at DWH. A real shame.
