  1. Streatham & Marlborough Cricket Club (on the corner of Lordship Lane and Dulwich Common) are hosting the world famous Lashings Cricket Club to Dulwich Common on Friday 12 September 2014. Lashings CC feature a host of international cricket stars and this match is the centrepiece in our fundraising campaign for a new pavilion. http://www.streathammarlboroughcc.co.uk/ http://www.lashings.co.uk/ This is your chance to treat clients, friends or family to a glittering afternoon of entertainment in the presence of some of the greatest cricketers ever to have played the game. Meet the stars, share a drink, see Gordon Greenidge carve one through point and ask Ashes legends how it felt to win back that little urn. We?ve put together a series of corporate hospitality packages to suit every budget so please visit our website for more information or send me a message and i can send the eFlyer with more details (it's too big a file to post!). Entrance without the corporate treatment is free and will be a great chance for youngsters and adults to meet some of the foremost names in world cricket. Hopefully it?ll be a great day. If you need any more details or would be interested in getting a table, please feel free to contact me. Regards, Dan Ellis Streatham & Marlborough Cricket Club Captain
  2. Hi, My name is Dan Ellis and I?m Club Captain of Streatham & Marlborough Cricket Club (SMCC) in East Dulwich/Forest Hill borders. We're located on the corner of Lordship Lane and Dulwich Common, opposite the old Harvester Pub. SMCC is looking to canvass the local community to establish what awareness there is of the club and its activities and to seek opinion regarding our activities. As well as giving you some information about what we?re doing and what we?re trying to achieve in the future. Over the past few years, we feel we?ve made some real progress in building the club to where it is today. Over 300 local men, women and children represented the club in approximately 250 games last summer and more than 2,000 non-club members also used the facility for sport. Our coaches also go into local schools to provide coaching. We pride ourselves on being fully inclusive and are Clubmark accredited, which endorses our commitment to fostering and promoting the sport of cricket to all in a safe and sustainable way. We are a not-for-profit sports club with a mission to provide cricket playing facilities for the local community to engage in adult league cricket, social cricket, junior/colts cricket, girls/womens cricket and disabled cricket. Our fundamental club vision is to provide playing and coaching facilities for cricket that will serve the long-term needs of all sectors of our socially diverse community. The main barrier to us fully delivering in all these areas has been the deteriorating state of our pavilion, which is a crippling expense and seriously threatens the future existence of the club. To this end, we are in first stages of a major project to rebuild the pavilion and (hopefully) deliver a facility that the local community can be truly proud of. There will be a number of exciting fundraising events throughout the summer but, at this stage, we?d like to engage with the community to see if anyone has any comments? Anything we can do better? Anything we are doing well? Feedback would be greatly appreciated and will help shape the direction of your local cricket club! Cheers Dan P.s. 3. Of course Loz - feel free. Thanks for your help.
  4. Thanks for the replies. Indeed, the "Marlborough" part of the club comes from a Church on the Old Kent Road, who were a wandering side until finding the Dulwich Common ground in 1950. Streatham Cricket Club were forced out of their ground (corner of Burbage Road and Gallery Road) after being unable to afford increased rates, and merged with Marlborough. Personally, i would rather move forward with a new name which identifies us with the local area (it has been discussed) but it's proved a little difficult to put in place when you're talking about 130-200 years of history for Marlborough CC and Streatham CC. Thanks Loz - we advertise on Gumtree, but didn't know about Time Out, will try them aswell. Our new website has just been finished and hopefully it's quite user friendly... Not sure the google searches are working very well though. Funny the link between alcohol and retention of members... I'll ask the committee about having a few opens days next season so locals can come down and have a hit. Thanks for all your advice... Dan
  5. Just wondering what people think / know about the cricket club which is on the corner of Lordship Lane and Dulwich Common - opposite the Harvester. I've been with the club for 10 years or so, but wouldn't have gone there had i not known other members. I've always thought it probably had a poor reputation due to the scruffy nature of the front car park, but we've been working hard for a while now to make the club more open and engage with the local community (Dulwich Tandoori sponsors our colts, for example). What do people in the forum think SMCC could do to make it more a part of the community / more welcoming? Thanks
