  1. How do they leave their children (the most precious things they will ever have) with someone they are not happy with?
  2. Thank you for your suggestions - I will be holding them in the Cadet Hut next to JAPS
  3. I am considering running 11+ mock exams on the 2nd January which we will be marked and then on the 3rd January I will work through them with the children discussing the problems and exam technique. This is slightly different to my previous courses due to lack of classroom availability over the Christmas period. Would this be of interest to anyone? Any thoughts/ideas welcome.
  4. I hear that Rebecca at Monkey Music is very good.
  5. I have tutored quite a few boys who have made the journey. At first I had concerns as the Autumn term is long and it gets dark early but they soon made friends with other boys of all ages and thoroughly enjoyed the journey.
  6. When my mum (82) had a nasty fall in Lordship Lane a little while ago the owner was really nice to her, helped her and made sure she was alright. She later went their for a meal and said it was very good and would go back again, she is not the easiest of people to please so that is praise indeed!
  7. I tutor from home and feel that it can be detrimental for children to have extra lessons if they are not eager. Everyone has stages where they are really interested in something then lose interest. If you son is a high achiever (even if he was an average achiever) he can enjoy maths in an informal setting, it is not necessary for him to have extra lessons. There are many maths concepts that children can gain through playing. Make it a game - in the garden if each flower has ten petals how many petals do you think there could be on 4 flowers? When going up or down stairs count is 2's, 5's 10's , every now and again say '25 so how many steps do you think we have come up?' How far do you think it is to the end of the garden? Let's measure it together. Make sure you guess with him and obviously get some right but get some wrong and laugh about it. It is important that you are relaxed and make it fun. Just every so often ask a question if he is keen then a little later ask another but do not over do it. Children learn best when they are having fun, keep him wanting more. Good luck
  8. Thank you grish and Dun it is very nice of you to recommend me. My e mail has changed it is now [email protected]
  9. Thank you for your suggestions - food for thought!
  10. Wow that was quick - would I repost in Family Room Classified even if I am not sure it will happen just want to know if it would be wanted?
  11. I have never posted like this before and hope I am in the right place. I have tutored in the area for 20 years, previously I taught in primary schools but now only tutor from my house in East Dulwich. I have been approached by some parents wanting test preparation in a school. The children would practice papers leading to experiencing exams in a setting similar to the real thing. Practice interviews would also be available. It would mean that I would need to hire a class in a local school which would be new to me and wondered if there really was any call for it. Look forward to any responses or suggestions
